View Full Version : Crash
Did anyone else see this movie? If so what did you think?
I just saw it and I thought it was great. I kept putting it off and procrastinating when it first came out but I finally caught it in one of the local more artsy theatres.
Anyway, I'm generally skeptical of movies that try and deal with racism or prejudice or stereotyping because they tend to be one sided or kind of hokey. But honestly this movie I felt did a good job. No one was purely a victim. Everyone was both victimized and victimizer. I also apprecaited that it expanded beyond just black vs white or hispanic vs white as it also dealt with asian and middle eastern issues as well. The acting was pretty good, although Ryan Phillipe was a little over the top as was Thandie Newton (Chronicle of Riddick, MI:2) but hey given all the different acting personalities in the movie I find no problem with it. Don Chadelle, Terrance Howard, Sandra Bullock, Matt Dillon, Larenze Tate, Brendan Fraser, Jennifer Esposito, etc. all do well with their roles. And to top it off you get to see Jennifer Esposito's boobs.
Anyway, I suggest it if you can still find it in a theatre near you. Or it will probably be on DVD soon enough since it came out in like may.

I thought crash was about having sex and wrecking cars. Different movie same title maybe?

I've heard really, really great things about it...
BTW how was Luda in it? I liked the quote they played in the commercial trailers where he says: "So you spoke to God, huh? What'd God say?"

Saw an advance screening of this many months ago. I thought the story was trying to say to much with very little time. Felt it was talking about unrealistic racism. These events don't happen like the movie portrayed...
It didn't suck, but it wasn't great in my book. C-
EDITED TO ADD: Luda was 10times better in Hustle and Flow, and he plays a very small part...

Yep, two movies with the same title. I think the other one came out in like 96'.

It would have to be a really shitty day for so many things to happen to so many people and all be somewhat connected in the period of what? 2 days? Of course it isn't realistic, but I don't think the point was to say hey this is exactly what happens. The underlying message, atleast in my opinion, was that even people with good intentions can still make mistakes and those who generally don't have the best intentions can still have the occasional redeeming quality. Everyone at some point is a victim, and even if they mean well everyone at some point will most likely victimize someone with a stereotype or a prejudice to some degree or another.
The only odd thing to me was that they showed the flip side of the coin for every race, except for the hispanic characters. They never really showed him in a negative light. He was hard working, a family guy, trying to do the right thing, etc. But unless in like some directors cut hes responsible for the store that got robbed, then he really didn't do anything wrong, nor were there any other hispanic characters that I noted who balanced him out. But maybe I missed something.

So I'm not crazy. I was thinking the same thing and I was hoping Tijay was going to say he saw it so I could make fun of him for it. I think I saw like 30 seconds of the older crash and it had a guy trying to have sex with a wound a girl had from being in a car crash. I stopped watching after that.

I think he did a pretty good job, and hes starting to come around as an actor. But I think the best thing about him in this movie is when he goes off on a rant about listening to hip hop/rap and how its a government conspiracy to supress the free thinking black population...
Well that and Terrance Howard made him his bitch in this movie too.

I just saw this movie.
I found it extremely moving.
Sure it pushed things for the sake of making connections but it still was very powerful and thought provoking.

We actually just watched it last night on "On Demand" for our cable company. Both James and I thought it was incredibly well done. And yes, it does go over the top a bit and it's almost never going to happen where so many people are connected to each other with such horrific things happening, but that was part of the appeal to me. I found it incredibly interesting how each person managed to connect to the other in some fashion, right up until the end where Luda dropped off the van full of people and the HMO worker's car got wrecked. I'd definiately recommend it.

That was James Spader doing Rosanna Arquette’s back leg wound.
I actually rented that and watched it in its entirety with my Mom. Shes a good sport. lol
Great movie. How often do you get to see Holly Hunter masturbate on screen?

I really, really enjoyed this movie. The end got to me with the kid, and I teared up. Such ironies that were portrayed.
I saw it at the theater, then bought it when it came out last month on DVD. I loan it to everyone I know and tell everyone to watch it. Simply amazing. Nice reminder we are all connected.
I really liked that there were no easy answers in this film. Everyone says exactly what's on their mind which doesn't leave much to the imagination, and that is a perfect inclusion. It's also very easily overlooked because of the intense unpredictability of all the characters involved. Highly recommended.
