My daughter just had her Tonsils and adenoid removed this morning. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips/tricks that worked when their own kids had this done to make her a little more comfortable.

Having trouble getting the codine down her, she refuses to take it and this makes her feel worse because she's lacking the meds to help the pain. Anyone have any good ideas of what to mix this with to get her to take it? Im out of ideas so far Ive tried eerything in the house and some things I just went to pick up.

Any help's appreciated.

When I was young, my parents used honey and a lot of those little popsickles. Creamsickles worked best for me. Nothing hot.

Also, tonsillitus dries out the throat, as does removal of the tonsils, so your daughter might benefit from you using a humidifier in her room (especially at night).

Did they do the cut and remove or the newer laser method to shrink them?

I can't tell you any tips, but I do have tonsils that my doctor had been lobbying to get removed when I was younger. I never did, they seem to be ok now, but I'll probably have them shrunk down as the technology progresses.

Good luck.

Some people have luck with ice cream, others with cold puddings. It depends on the kid, really. It's really important that she be taking plenty of fluids to keep the surgical area moist. If she's refusing to drink, as well as to take her meds, you might have to take her back to the doctor so he/she can have a look. The doctor's nurse should also be able to help you learn how to give her the medication whether she wants it or not.

Ice creams, jello, pudding. Cold and moist. And, as someone who had their tonsils taken out, don't eat food that she really likes in front of her.

Thanks for the advice

As of now, she still hadn't drank anything, not even her meds. I was on the verge of taking her to the ER because it appeares that she CANT swallow, but after calling her doctor decided not to since he advised me to wait until tomorow and if she wasn't better then thats exactly where I should take her. Even tried giving her her meds slowly while shes asleep and no luck there either.

I cant even get her to lick a popscicle. Got her to take a bite of icecream and she just held it in her mouth until it dripped out.

You other mother's know what im talking about. This is scarry shit to a mom, especially a first timer.

I'm a freakish mutant. I was born without tonsils.
