I like the taste and everything, but I just had some and it is making my lower lip numb and my throat is all itchy and allergic-type feeling.
I thought I was allergic to it before, but I had some not long ago and was fine. Just had some today on the basis that I was fine last time and it is freakyville.

Isn't kiwi fruit one of those fruits that has to be really ripe before you eat it? Kinda like persimmons?

I seem to remember in learning about allergies... the first time you encounter say .. a bee sting you won't experience the reaction until the next time you are stung. You body recalls the foreign matter being there from before, and acts right away with histamines and such. Maybe it can be likened to the rH factor pregnancy-- first child is fone but watch out for the rest?
I might be totally wrong about this.. has been a LONG time.
BTW, I love kiwi. I'll eat your share :D

You can experience an allergic reaction the first time you're exposed to something. Allergies and the Rh thing are two different processes. With the Rh you build up antibodies after you're first exposed, that's why the first child is fine.
You're probably just allergic to kiwi fruit. I knew a few kids who were when I was in high school. One of my teachers would always point out how "nowadays" people can know if they're allergic to things like kiwi fruit when about 30 years ago, people would never have even been exposed to kiwi fruit and could go through their whole life allergic to them and never know. I thought that was pretty dumb.

Kiwi is amazing, sucks if you are allergic.

I love it, has to be my favorite, I don't like when they are squishy though, I'd rather have them firm. (if that sounds right...)
I remember once, on a dare, I ate 20 kiwi fruits. They are delicious. I ate nothing for the rest of the day.. never again.

I eat the fuzzy part too, used to think it was gross, but it doesn't taste bad---most people are bothered by the texture. I started eating fuzzy part when I started eating more then one a day and was too lazy to peel each one.
Yeah.. I love Kiwi fruit.. but umm.. I won't eat the skin. It's like not peeling a mango or an orange to me.. Bleh..
I do love them though. Sucks that you're allergic to them. I'm allergic to lobsters, shrimps, and crayfish.. It sucks. But I love me some clams!

I'm allergic to a lot of fruits and nuts. I can't stand it. I get the same symptoms that Nien described.
So far I'm allergic to kiwi, anon (which is a tropical fruit, really yummy, really bad for me, but I don't care, it's going to kill me one day), the smaller bananas, coconut, walnuts, and almonds.
I'm assuming I got this one from my mother. She's allergic to more fruit than me. She can't bite into apples or pears, she totally breaks out. She has to eat it by slices. Apparently the meat touching her gums is what causes it.

I've never heard of anyone being allergic exclusively to kiwis. That kind of sucks. Sorry.

I like kiwis. I have the same reaction to avacado, raw carrots, and a few other veggies. There is a protein in those things that I react to. It may be the same for you.

I knew some kid who was allergic to milk. It wasn't like some lactose intolerance thing, more like he'd go into anaphylaxis shock if he even ate food that was prepared with milk.

I like kiwis. I'm allergic to ketchup and I'm allergic to mushrooms, however.

Allergies can pop up anytime.
I had my favorite fruit turn on me one day and ended being rushed to the ER.
Sorry it happened to you, be glad it's a minor allergy at least.
The bet was a perfectly reasonable one (at the time).
Shit, you swallow 20 kiwi fruit. Tell me if you want to eat anything for the rest of the day. Gah!

Yeah. Kiwi fruits seem pretty avoidable... unless Nieninque, like some other British people, has a burning desire to move to New Zealand.

In NZ the kiwi fruit's still avoidable, it's just the damned kiwis you can't avoid.
