Wont mean much to those of you over there, but Robin Cook died on Saturday.

He was a Labour politician who resigned from Foreign Secretary (I think) over the decision to go to war with Iraq (bless people who stand by their convictions) and was instrumental (apparently) in the bringing down of the last Tory Government.

On the other hand, he looked like a bulldog chewing a lemon and had a string of lady friends that brought the attention of their reltaionship to the notice of the press

Anyway, he was out walking in the Scottish hills with his wife and friends (he was apparently really fit) and collapsed and died.

Bit of a shock for everyone I think

Ish. When I saw the title, I thought it referred to the author, Robin Cook, who has to be in his 60s by now. I believe the Robin Cook you're talking about was, indeed, the foreign secretary who resigned during Blair's administration, in protest against the war in Iraq. Smart cookie that one, if I remember correctly. Quite a loss, I'd say. :(

Yeah, it's very sad news. He was one of my favourite politicians and I really admired him for having the courage to stand by his convictions over the war. I think it was a big downer for the labour party when he resigned.

I was just reading the stuff Gordon Brown said about him which gives a very good run down about the man himself.

A loss for all of us in the UK for sure.

Rest well Mr Cook.

I hope our current FS will be one day, just as brilliant.
