So, that Superman thread got me wondering...

I used to collect X-Men comic books when I was a kid. I stopped a long time ago (8-10 years? I can't even remember), right in the middle of the Age of Apocalypse. Whatever happened with that?

I attempted a half-hearted Google search, but all I could come across were the meanderings of 12 year olds that would make Maddox cry.

I was actually going to dig mine up too, but I realized we did some house cleaning and I'm not sure which box that storyline went into.

On a side note: If you swing by Barnes and Nobles, go read the hardcover collected volume Ultimate X-Men. It is the awesome.

I believe there's 2 or 3 edition that explains how things started.. how it ended etc.. and what happened after they prevented apocalypse from winning.

Apocalypse wanted to use the M'kraan crystal to leave that world because it's a dying planet. The x-men fought him. Magneto ripped his body in 2. Unfortunately, the Eurasian high council which was led by the humans dropped nuclear bombs in north america, to which apocalypse retaliated. It was the end of the world, but bishop went back to the past.. with the help of ilyanna rasputin's time travelling abilities, and destiny's precognitive one.. they were able to stop David Haller from killing professor x. thus preventing the age of apocalypse from ever happening.

And there's lots of spin offs too.

Edit: I'm such a nerd.

I'm about to backstab Backlash and hop to the front of the line.

I was a fan of the original Stan Lee X-Men. Xavior, Angel, Beast, Iceman, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey actually) and Cyclops. Even back when it all started they totally played the outcast mutant thing. Issue 94 is when it went from old school to new school with the introduction of Wolverine, Colossus and Nightcrawler. What was so cool about that was it became internationally diverse, thanks to John Byrne. I followed all the way up to the Sentinals and altered time and only caught one or two of the Apocolypse issues though I think those may have been Next Generation books.

Oh, I found this X-Men (http://www.marveldirectory.com/teams/xmen.htm) page at the Marvel Directory for anyone interested.

PS. Kitsun’s blade bounces off Backlash’s blade-proof back and breaks. Boo-hoo.

Rats, foiled again.

One of the spinfoff titles from AoA was a series with Blink as a main character. Some kind of weird ass dimensional rip where there are teams trying to 'fix' broken realities... there was some backplot but the art/story started sucking so much even Blink didn't keep me interested.

Slacker ... Thunderbird, and Storm. It's been a while, but I thought the banshee was in that group as well.

Also in the original squad they introduced Havok, Mimic (le dead), and the Scarlet Witch (I think).

I have 20-30 or the originals and bought everything X-men related till just past the Apocolypse storyline. To me, though it was a good story line, was just enough to make me realize I had started out paying a quarter to fifty cents a comic, to over 3.00 a comic ... and not getting any new content, just recycled stories.

I got snagged into reading the garbage that was X-force and have despised Rob Liefield since. Why a Marvel gave a work to a kid that couldn't draw hands, feet, or backgrounds a job is beyond me. But he just took some good story lines and existing characters and just crapped all over them before leaving with the real marvel talent and forming Image ... which he was later fired from.

But I digress ... I've no idea how the "X" titles have evolved, but chances are the story lines are the same as they ever were.

Banshee came before that group.

Don't forget Polaris & Quicksilver too! :D I don't think Mimic's dead anymore, although I could be wrong. They kill & resurrect so much I can't keep track.

Exiles is the book you're talking about, and I agree, it stinks. I still buy it once in a while just because of Blink.

Yar, thats the one, Snapp!

There was another X-men spinfoff series I tried reading a year or so ago with Rogue, Psylock, Beast and a few others. Then they let some random ass character pop out of NOWHERE and killed off Psylock. I was all WTF and stopped buying it.

This is all making me realize just how bad I am with names of comics...

X-Treme X-Men.. I actually liked that comic too, but it ended. And Psylocke is back from the dead. :weird:

They went all X-books after they realized they had a hit series. It diluted the whole thing in my opinion. I think the movies have been great though. They distilled it back down to the real meat of the stories with the most popular characters.

Having said that, I did like Next Gen. You know, when they started drawing bigger boobs in bikinis. lol. j/k Next Gen still had good chars and stories.

The first movie was pretty bad but the second one was excellent. Are they making a third?

I thought AoA was excellent, I loved the artwork and the stories (to my 11 year old mind) were fantastic. I was honestly disappointed when they ended the AoA series and went back to "normal" X-reality.

All in all, AoA was the best storyline mix-up hash thing I've ever read in any comic series, and I actually quit reading comics shortly thereafter. I picked one up a little while later (I think, fuck it might've been earlier than AoA, I just can't remember anymore) after Magneto ripped out Wolverine's metal bones and he went all feral status and lost his nose. I haven't picked up a comic since I saw what they did to one of my favorite X-characters of all time.

The movies I thought were good, and the X-Men Legends video games rock.

What ever happened to Thunderbird?

Update on the x-men!

I havent read any of them because the first few books of this ultra mega marvel earth shattering event were dumb, but........

Half the Avengers were killed by the Scarlet Witch. She went crazy and guess what she did!?! She changed the universe and latered existence because we never saw that happen before in the x-men. So anyways, it became this world where everyone was screwed up, not sure on the details, I started reading them and was disgusted because it was like the gae of apocolypse but starring the x-men and the rest of the marvel world.

So apparently something happens that saves the day but now like 75% of all the mutants are normal, meaning they lost their mutant powers.

Not sure where Prof X is, but Cyclops and the White Queen are running the school with a bunch of new x-men in the "New X-Men" there is a 16 year old female clone of Wolverine that has joined them. Psylocke is back, Jean Grey is dead...again. Her sortof daughter Rachael is now Phoenix, Beast is more lion like now. And thats about all I know. Now that the whole marvel crossover series is over, I'm starting to collect the x-titles again.

DC has a way better ultra mega crossover in my opinion though. Plus you know, Batman PWNS.
