I got this e-mail a few days ago, and an IM from Heather today asking me if I'd post it on the "posting boards you are always looking at". So, here it is.

Hey everyone!

I do hope you take the time to read through this. As I'm sure you guys
all know, there were 14 Marines killed this past week in Iraq that
were all from Ohio. FIVE of those Marines were from our direct area.
There's one in particular - David Kreuter - whom by an odd set of
circumstances, my family has a personal contact to. My mother met his
younger sister while shopping for cell phones last week, and when she
found out my mom had two children in the Marine Corps David's sister
wanted to get their information to keep in contact with them since she
was so worried about her brother. The very next day however, my mother
got a call from her crying saying that she had just found out that her
brother had been one of Marines killed in the IED explosion.

David left behind not only the typical family and friends, but also a
wife that he had been married to for under a year and a 7 week old
baby boy named Christian that he never had a chance to see. What I'm
doing is trying to raise money to give to the family for help with
Christian as I know they're going to need all the help they can get.

What I'm proposing is this: Of any Mary Kay purchases made through the
end of next week (August 20th), 50% of those purchases (everything I
make as profit) will be donated to the Kreuter family. So PLEASE buy
something yourselves even if it's a tiny purchase, and pass the email
on to friends and family that may also be interested. I don't care as
long as the word gets out. If you don't know what to buy or what you
need, schedule an appointment with me, email me, browse online at
www.marykay.com/hklayer where you can also place orders or just give
me a call at (513)293-6838. This way, you get something and help
someone else in their time of need. Thank you you guys! It means a lot
to me.

Sincerely,
Heather Klayer

You're the one who thinks that someone offering their profits to aid the family of a slain soldier to be funny.

Since you do, I'd like to understand where you find humor in this tragedy.

You just always have to be careful and make sure that is where the profits are really going! Many people can be tricky.

I'm assuming Adredrin knew this person..in that case, it's not funny in the slightest..

If not, of course you have to be careful..

I understand the point of your post, but if you buy something with the intention of assisting, the onus is on the seller to follow through on their word. Karma usually sees to it that all involved get their due.

Still, there's no humor in this situation.

I disagree.

It also seems like a very odd proposal to me. Is she only looking to get females or guys buying make-up for their spouses to donate??

There are far better ways of donating to a family than proposing "Let me sell you cosmetics, and I'll give my commission to the family."

It's also possible that the person is well-meaning, but not very bright. :D

Exactly.

Shit, you buy a wedding cake from me and I'll donate some of it to someone who can use it to raise a kid.

Right. And that was hilarious eh?

It's not hilarious. It might not be the brightest thing to do, or the best possible way to donate - but it's far from funny. :loser:

I had pretty much the same reaction.
