View Full Version : Good IPod Ripper?

My wife is freaking out because the computer we originally had used with the IPod she has (along with all the songs, ratings, and playlists) got killed in an electrical storm. I think the HD may be recoverable, but she doesn't trust it.

What is a good (free?) IPod ripper that takes all the playlist, rating, and other Itunes data off the IPod and copies it to a new computer?

Also...how do you unauthorize an old computer for IPod use?

Is it so hard to use a surge protector and not use a shitty MP3 player?

I've never plugged an iPod into a computer, but you shouldn't need any software to access the data on it. It's just a small, portable hard drive. If I'm wrong (probably), Apple really fucking blows.

There isn't a way to do that with iTunes?

It isn't reverse transferrable. You can transfer from Itunes to the IPod, but you can't (easily) transfer back.

Yes, you could disable the security and move the music, but you'd lose the playlists and ratings and whatever other crap she wants to save. That requires software to acquire for some reason.

And the computer was actually double surge protected, the cord itself was struck, and the surge protection on the motherboard kept all the components safe, just fried itself and the power supply.

By the by, I'd never have bought such an overpriced shitstorm like the IPod if it hadn't been for my wife's desires for it, and my desires for my wife. You'll understand someday, Bob.

This (http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Multimedia_and_Graphics/Misc__Sound_Tools/CopyPod.html) sound like what you're looking for?

Yep. Except the price. I'm a cheap bastard I know, but I was looking for a free app that would do about the same.

There's a download link that appears to work, not sure if it asks for serial information afterwards though.

I understand today, but I wouldn't let my money be wasted on an iPod for anyone. There is never going to be any good MP3 player that requires software to use.

What I would like to see, though, is a good m4a player.

Artha, all the shareware ones have song transfer limits of like 5 or 6 songs before they quit, so I'd rather not pay $15 for something if I can get it for free somewhere else. This thing cost enough money, I'll be damned if I have to pay more just to move the backup to a new PC unless I absolutely have to.

Oh, alright. I can't really test because I don't have an ipod (DJ ftw), so I'm not really sure how they work.

No worries, thanks for taking a look anyway. I think I'll probably get one of these damn $15 ones that are around like that one you found...this should be much easier than it is.
