So yeah...I CAN'T STAND IT ANY LONGER....so I know i'm totally broke, but I have to somehow look into a comp so I can get back. I was under the impression that a comp package was a good 500.00 minimum, but I was talking to Kazami and he said 150.00 could get a good school sorta comp that I could play GS and use Word on, and 500.00 was for a uber 1337 gaming machine. What I wanna know is wheere the heck can I find a 150.00 comp that is decent and reliable, and will support GS without Lag. I don't need anything fancy, something minimal.

It would cost you $300 retail.

Actually, immediate Google results indicate:

T2542 Desktop - $350.00 - PriceGrabber.com
eMachines Desktop PC with Intel® Celeron® Processor 2.5GHz ... - $425.99 - microuse.com

$150 is a little low IMHO. You could get a PC for that...but probably not an OS unless it was Linux. Do you have a MS Word CD? If not, that could also add to the problem, unless you're willing to be able to use wordpad.

Bob's deal sounds pretty good, and he's likely more trustworthy than some of these outfits on Ebay that you'd have to turn to to get something like that there.

But, if you wanted a storebought here's an option:

IBM NetVista Intel Pentium 4 1.8GHz / 512MB SDRAM / 40GB HDD / DVD-ROM / NVIDIA TNT2 Vanta 16MB Video / 10/100Mbps LAN / Windows 2000 / Off-Lease Refurbished Desktop PC

That's $289 after rebate and would do the things you want it to, but not much more.

I just blew up my 3 year old PC, so I ploped a grand on a custom built gaming PC. I've decided that if I can do the research and pick the important parts, I can get a rig I can upgrade for a few years and avoid the endless chuck and suck throwing away PCs.

Browse there a bit. The only problem is that with almost any computer, it's going to be $400+ prior to rebates.

That eMachines sells for $389.99 and has a $50 rebate at Best Buy, so I don't understand why it's listed at $399.99.

p.s. my computer is cheaper than all of those!

I might have an older one sitting around, if you wanna pay shipping and maybe wait a couple weeks. It'd be over a ghz, most likely. I'm in the business of computers, and I have alot of parts from old machines I've accumulated over the years. I think I have 11 computers in my closet right now in various states of repair.
I'm not living at home now, since I'm on a contract across the state. I'll be going back there in a couple weeks tho. I'll check and see what I can do, I have no clue what I have sitting around.

Do you have a monitor? I don't have any extras, I dont think.
