that looks too staged.
he hesitates before he drops. And, at that close of a range, a shot to the head would have been easier, or a grenade.

I didn't see hesitation before dropping.
What's the large city around Mendon?

That is a little too close to Xcalibur for my comfort.

i dunno, it doesn't look real to me, but then again, I've never seen someone get shot like that, in that scenario, so who knows?. I note that from the time he gets "hit" by the bullet, there's a moment where he just like, hesitates, and drops, it happens fast, but maybe that's the reaction.
Normally I would think someone getting hit by a bullet would drop instantly, but he took the blow, then fell. Not falling while taking the blow.
That had to have been one weak ass rifle.

Getting shot is not like in the movies.

If the bullet is not powerful enough to knock someone off their feet with sheer size and velocity velocity, there is a very brief time between when a person is hit with something and when the body's nervous system reacts (pain and whatnot). I've seen it in police videos, and I'm pretty sure that is what you are seeing here.

a higher velocity, bigger round, probably would have sent him flying on impact.
but I really don't know shit about ballistics, and I am sure the event really did occur.

It did sound like a fairly weak gun but it looks real enough to me.

I havent been able to watch the film yet since my work comp wont play movie files but I do know a lot of hand held camcorders will automatically reduce the sound of really loud noises when they're played back. Loud gunshots will usually have to be added to the soundtrack of the footage afterwards.

I have just a cheap hand held that I use and when I brought it with me to the firing range, it was a hell of a lot louder than that.
But I did not know that some of them did that.

I wanted to make a post about this guy awhile ago but couldn't think of a good way to do it. The guy proceded to fuck up the insurgents and give first aid to the guy that sniped him.

you pretty much have to get shot with a cannon for it to move you back at all. Bulletts just don't affect enough of your surface mass, for that wild west knock you through a window shot to be accurate.

I saw this clip (in full) on CNN about a week ago. More likely than a stage thing, since he wasn't expecting to be shot, the delay drop would be caused by shock.
It looks real to me. People like this pretty much awe me. If someone shot at me, and I chased them down on that much adrenalin, I'd kill them. Definitely a testiment to restraint of certain individuals in our armed forces :)

.50 cal is more than enough to knock somebody off their feet. You can basicly rip a limb off without hitting a person just from the shock wave.
The guy was hit with a 7.62 round in his body armor, the plate. He got hit, and dropped be it from the round or just training, got up and took cover, then they proceeded to fuck up the insurgents who attacked him.
Getting shot by a UN round into police style bulletproof vests is said to be like getting punched very hard. Imagine being punched very hard without being aware of it at all and you really could see getting knocked over.

Certainly not a police style vest he was wearing but you are spot on about the impact/stun/shock/fall. A 7.62 x 39 or 7.62 x 54 can pass thru the wall of an engine block (I've done it before hehe) and would easily pass thru a police style vest. The new style armor plating is great protection against single rounds from infantry weapons.

a 5.56 round would penitrate a police vest from a rifle.
The body armor's main function is to stop shrapnel, and it can prolly stop upto a 9mm round. The life saver in that situation was the SAPPI plate. {picture below} They are designed to stop upto the 7.62 round.

Our our soon to be new XO (arrived about a month ago) was shot in the chest with an anti-personnel RPG, dead center, after only being in Iraq a month. Although it fucked him up real bad (lost 20% of his intestines, a kidney, spleen, blew the fuck out of his toes (all held on by metal bars now) he survived it and decided to stay in the military, and on top of that selected to go to another combat unit and deploy again. He cant run anymore but the man gets a shit load of respect from me, and everyone around for his resilience, and balls for that matter.
so yeah the sappi plates are pretty fuckin nice.

oh BTW a dragunov shoots a 7.62x54 Which is far from a weak round. That will go though many differnt types of armor.
