Okay, I spent a little bit of coin on a plain Vultite Short Sword.
My Ambush RTs are now 5 sec which is something I wont complain about.

Techniques and tatics.
My macro usually runs like this.

Stance off\rambush orc left leg\r\p\p\p\p\pstance def\r

My Related SKills are I think.
Stalking and Hiding................| 114 28
Ambush..................................| 114 28
Edged Weapons....................| 114 28

All 2X trained at level 13

My stats are

Strength (STR): 85 (17) ... 85 (17)
Dexterity (DEX): 85 (22) ... 85 (22)
Agility (AGI): 86 (28) ... 86 (28)

This all seems okay from what I can tell.

As above that is how I ambush. I am wondering if that is accurate for how it should be done.

I saw mention in another thread of AIM.

Just looking for ways to ambush that I may have missed. Also maybe a list of targets.

Eye
Head
legs
arms
back
neck

are a few I have seen mentioned or can think of.

Yes, you can type AIM <target>, then all you will have to do from then on is type ambush. The availiable targets are...

Right eye
Left eye
Head
Neck
Right arm
Right hand
Left arm
Left hand
Chest
Abdomen
Back
Right leg
Left leg

You can also just use it like you are doing, its just not quite as fast to type.

As for a ambushing tip, for death crits, I always aim for necks, since you don't have to crit them as hard there, as you do in thier head.

Head and neck are identical for every crit type: 6 crit rank is the minimum for death.

yeah, after looking on the QRS crit tables, both have the same, except for crush damage, it only takes a level 5 crit for minimum death, instead of a level 6 for all the rest.

You didn't mention your perception skill which makes a huge difference in ambushing from hiding.

I thought only perception was valid with regards to attacking when using ranged weaponry.

Definately get used to using AIM, and in your macro use plain old AMBUSH without any parameters. The key benefit here is not that your macro is shorter, its that you can reset your AIM during RT and you only ever need to use one macro to ambush. I have one thats simply "ambush\r" and then many for all my aim points, which are just head, neck, and eyes. Now, as an ambusher you will often need to reset your aim, either head to neck, or from eye to eye. Crit randomization being what it is you can destroy a body part, not get the death crit, but that invalidates that spot from getting another death crit, so you have to switch to another spot.

I'd lose the pause and stance def part too, but maybe its not as dangerous as it may seem. It does seem to build bad habits, if for some reason that were to fail and you miss it in screen scroll you are SOL and you don't even know it.

There are some other codes you can use to be more sure that command goes off, like \x which clears the command line. That is if you are typing 'hello when the stance def goes off you will output this "hello stance def", much to amusment of anyone nearby. Using \x will clear that and insure that stance def is sent alone. But if you are still in RT, or get one of those phantom wait messages you are still SOL.

That's great info! I never knew that - do you know where I can source additional commands for macros (for SF) - or do you have a list available?

Actually I use the Highlight strings and other things to keep an eye on problems. I have keys bound for things like stance def and stand.

I prefer to live than get killed or stunned.

I saw someone attack while stunned the other day? Is that a CMAN?

Its a rogue guild skill called Stunman.

Edited to add Stunman info:

Usage: STUNMAN SHIELD remove shield, stow left hand item
WEAPON ready weapon, stow right hand item
GET pick up an item
STAND get vertical
STANCE1 increase defensive stance by 20%
STANCE2 increase defensive stance by 40%
ATTACK attempt an attack
MOVE walk in a particular direction
AUTOMATIC attempt to use stun maneuvers automatically when stunned

There are some critters that critting them with a neck shot just doesn't work. So I have to ambush a leg to get them on the ground first, then go for the neck.

Trali shamans I would always need to leg first, because if I didn't get them stunned, they'd have me bound before I blinked.

Something to think about.

If they're on the ground, and you're using a short sword, wouldn't it hurt more in their eye?

I think if they're on the ground, it would be personal preference to go for an eye crit or a neck crit.
Either would hurt like hell!

There should be a death crit for groin shots..

AS: +347 vs DS: +105 with AvD: +28 + d100 roll: +44 = +314
... and hits for 26 points of damage!
Terrifying swing hits the orc in the groin.
The orc grabs hold of the blade and cries out as you remove it, blood streaming between his fingers.
The orc drops to the ground and attempts to crawl away, then collapses in an arched heap.

Most of the orcs are female.

As for the codes, those were gleemed from SF default set of macros and then tested. I haven't tried any exploratory stuff, but since there aren't many key codes you could quickly test for any others.

I'm sure a female would die from being stabbed deep in the snatch.

I have been using AIM successfuly. Getting the hang of it while attacking Grey Orcs and the Mountain Ogre areas.

War Trolls do not seem to have an easy time of getting critted. They do not seem to stun well.

I also made level 14 yesterday to increase everything a little bit more.
