Call the tech help line, they walk people through it all the time so I have read.
dont get a cell signal in my room so it would be very difficult to do.

Get a better phone then call tech support.
It's not a matter of a phone skirm. The Commo equipment around the barracks and troop area don't allow any cell signals in.
You can either set up your WEP security settings so only you can log onto your SSID.
You can also mask (on the later router models/software) your SSID where it has no name broadcast. You cant log onto what you cant see, but you'll still want WEP password protection.
Or you can restrict the MAC addresses so that only the address off of your wireless card will be recognized or given access.
I'm sure I"m leaving out some stuff, but thats the measures I've taken with my router and it works fine with no intrusions.

yeah thats where I am confuesed... WEP SSID?.,,
I set it up and when i put in the password i thought i set for it it didnt work
The people here are not computer savy so i dont need to worry about them hacking it I just want to make it so you have to connect to it with a password nothing complicated but to me it seems to be.
when you type in a WEP password it will translate it to HEX or ASCII. You'll need to look at what it converts your password into (key), and probably enter that (key) as your password on your laptop wifi access program. I doubt it will convert it automatically. Also make sure you remember what bit you're using as that will also be required to match. 64, 128, or 256.

SSID is the name of your wifi broadcast from the router. When you scan for networks with your laptop its the SSID's you see when you see the names of available networks.

I am sooo slow today.
Just do what I did after fighting with a wireless router .... get a spool of network cable and wait until someone more savy than I comes along.
I called it my extended wired network. My wife called it hubby rigged .... ungrateful wench.

I would just use MAC address restriction, and don't broadcast the SSID signal. Most average people won't be able to get into it at that point.
Your MAC address can be found on your ethernet card, and is properly labeled as such. write that down.
In your browser, punch in the URL http://192.168.1.0, or 192.168.0.1 (one of those should work..., but your documentation will tell you how to login to it.
Change the default password for access. I forget the exact menus that all this information will be found under, but give me a u2u, and I'll try to go through some screenshots. Linksys's website will also be helpful.
Your SSID is going to be 'linksys' by default, you're gonna wanna change that too.

All of this should be in your manual, so.... RTFM.
Also, WEP is crackable. Although it's unlikely anyone will want to spend the effort to break into a stupid personal network. Use WAP PreShared key if you can.
