BOB IS LYING! I have this cleaned up log. I was invisible at the time, resting, when they suddenly barged in!

[Raging Thrak Inn, Suite]
Heavy velvet curtains are partially drawn in this room, allowing some light to filter through the sheers behind them. Near the window is a small sitting area containing a sofa, a chair, and a writing desk. Just inside the carved maoral door, a feather bed stands next to a double-doored wardrobe closet. You also see a full length mirror.
Also here: Bobmuhthol, Entress
Obvious exits: none

Bobmuhthol asks, "May we have some consentual sex plz?"

Entress ponders.

Entress says, "Again? At least throw in some foreplay this time."

Bobmuhthol exclaims, "NO! FUCK YOU!!!!!"

Entress swings a short sword at a Bobmuhthol!
AS: +126 vs DS: -23 with AvD: +40 + d100 roll: +12 = +201
... and hit for 60 points of damage!
Whoosh! Several ribs driven into lungs.
Bobmuhthol collapses to the ground, emits a final bleat, and dies.

As you can clearly tell, Bob tried having consentual sex with Entress, and she killed him.

The implications are strongly there that you felt my statement was false. If that's not what you meant, what did you?

This word game is getting tiring.

And yes, I don't see how you can have an opinion of Entress if you haven't interacted with her.
It's like me saying, "I don't know Bob, but I don't like him! Never interacted with him, but hell, who needs to?"

She's not going to lose sleep over it. Opinions usually have something to back it up, which is why I don't understand your statement.

You don't have to engage in ACTUAL interaction to decide you don't like someones character. Sit around enough or frequent places where said character is and by watching how they RP or not is how a person can get to the conclusion they don't particularly like said character.

It's a spell on a closed list that's sold off the shelf. It's not like hiding or ambushing (would be hilarious to hear the cries if you could get something like guild skills off the shelf.) They are used frequently by pussies to avoid retribution. You ever talk about removing them from the shelf and all the snerty CvCers and Sorcerers cry like little kids.

Drayal didn't need an invisibility anything to defend himself from those two. And Skirm hit the nail on the head, Klaive made them so distasteful with his abuse of said item.

I'm sure that someone will bring up healing herbs, but I don't plan on getting into a pissing match over the amulets. I imagine eventually they'll go away or get more expensive.

I'd be surprised if they went away. And at scroll merchants, you can get pretty much any spell off the shelf. Correct me if I'm wrong, you need MIU to use them... so it's not like just anyone can snap them up.

And why should we let Klaive ruin something for everyone? That's like saying Klaive made posting on a message board distasteful.

Thanks for proving me correct Chad.

Yep, you need MIU now. Wasn't always the case. (Should have heard the crying over that.) Why not sell all spells off the shelf? If we use the reasoning that you can buy anything at a merchant, what's stopping them from allowing us to have heroism off the shelf, give us the rest. Hell, let me have disk off the shelf.

I definitely want to see scroll infusion available. I want that ability.

Everyone has their own opinion on the matter. I don't care if people like them or not, my opinion on the matter won't change. I do however find the arguments that folks conjure up in favor of their favorite little out of circle spell to be amusing.

People never saw them removing familiar from being imbeddable, but it happened. I imagine if anything changes it will be pure potions. I don't imagine I would like that change myself, but I won't be crying over it. Hmm...guess I need to go to the main boards and complain about the amulets again, it's been awhile.

I challenge anyone to find any single feature of GS that cannot be used and abused by someone, and leave a bad taste in the mouth as a result. The point is not that it has been used badly in the past or that it COULD be in the future. I don't engage in PvP and have engaged in CvC maybe four times. I still like my amulet.

Plus, I'd rather make up the AS penalty of the old style claid (-10) rather than attempt to make up an AVD penalty of -10 on a newstyle, as it's fairly easy to make up -10 AS with spells.

-10 AvD and -10 AS have the exact same effect offensively. The difference is that when in defensive, you lose 10 DS with a -2x weapon.

I had a huge post typed out about this, but in the end, it boils down to BFD? (for the same reasons I said big deal initially about the -10 AS).

If you're MAing a group or hunting a group, you're more than making up for that -AS/DS with 307, 310, 1007, 509 etc.

The point is, I'd rather have the AVD/added damage factor when I hit because I can easily make up for those losses to what the game designers considered a "baseline character" with my paladin. Again, it was a personal preference, as I noted when I said that both classes were overpowered and that my paladin hunted wights.

Entress's player, I think they're referring to what could be seen as an emotional reaction on your part following Drayal's post.

It gave the impression that you two must constantly one up each other/bitter lovers etc, which is fine in game, but it transferred over to the boards when you posted the log of beheading Shimm, following what might be perceived as a threat, and it makes the fued seem to be OOC.

Now, you've gotten a little defensive about the issue of your RP, which is expected, as people attacked you, but initially, you did attack back. It looks bad to claim ignorance after going on the offensive. That's all.

That the bottom line is that you like the amulet and that it's not any of the other excuses that people conjure up as to the reason they should remain on the shelves. People start thinking of reasons that a closed spell should continue to be sold off the shelf because they like it (use it - don't want it to change etc) You admitted as much, which gives you more credit than most.

I didn't offer any defense about pure potions, which are arguably much more powerful than an invisibility amulet. Last I recall you could neutralize a curse, LK, bless a weapon and get bravery all out of one off the shelf item. I think the intended uses of that item have long since passed and if anything they would be due for a shake up. I won't even begin to argue that they should remain on the shelf because those items can be found on scrolls or purchased at merchants. I simply like pure potions.

I don't like invisibility amulets which is tied to a bundle of issues that wizards had several years back. For most people they are a nice and handy item that enables them to be invisible to rest, travel or whatever they choose. For others they have become an easy crutch used as a part of their troublemaking repertoire.

In this case, seeing the invisibility amulet used like it was, just reminded me of what the one GM said, Lothwyn I think it is, when people complained - he whined that it would interfere with an integral part of his sorcerer's RP.

Most critters have the potential ability to pull anyone out of invisibility. Most players do not.

For integral roleplaying purposes, until I have the physical ability to deliberately walk about in random patterns within a given room, haplessly knocking scores of invisible players onto the ground, prone and tweaking out of their minds, I am going to have to agree with you, TheRoseLady... a lot.

I'd go so far as to say that if an older sorcerer can kill someone else and immediately "Inviso'," that it should also be within policy to load someone up with a few thousand coins, immediately followed by a spikethorn or boil.

One thing I've always thought about... if I can hear another ranger walking around with sneaking, mobility and natural colors on... how come I can't hear a wizard / sorc that is not trained in sneaking walking around invisibly? I mean... rangers / rogues are fucking MADE for stealth, so much so that only the most perceptive people can notice them moving around, and then only because the sounds their feet make. How can a wizard and their untrained, noisy feet move around undetected when a ranger cannot? Also, (on a purely selfish personal note) if I'm able to DETECT an invisible person is in the room (via 609) I think it should help me DISCOVER them with 109, but that's just me. And you should be able to find invisible giants, because they smell bad.

Also, your (and other's) estimation or comparison between old and new are leaving out a few crucial details. The biggest is that oldstyle claids are mechanically greatswords. This has quite a few ramifications, the smallest (but very beneficial) is weapon spec greatsword.
The original posters comment (while obviously secondhand and crack high affected) were accurate talking about DF versus plate. (Think greatsword, grasshoppa.)

How recent is your latest?

This is my latest no older than a year or so.

Two Handed Sword 0.625 .500 .500 0.35 0.275
Claidhmore 0.625 0.475 .500 0.35 0.225

This is from a few independent sources, prior to the new DF tests all the old tables I have show greatsword equal to claid and match the values you've posted. But thats been shown to not be the case anymore, reverting back to the old values is possible but I consider it to be unlikely.

Bobmuhthol collapses to the ground, emits a final bleat, and dies.
