I'm sure there was probably already a thread like this, but I couldn't find it so....

Tomorrow is my 5 year wedding anniversary, not a long time I know, but I don't expect gifts cause well we just dont do that. So my husband surprises me.
He got our sons first picture, etched onto a silver heart with a gorgeous chain.. and made me cry.
I wonder how long I can use the excuse, I just had a baby, its hormones... honest!

So what was the most moving gift you've ever recieved??

Grandparents bought me a moped when I was a kid.

That was probably the most kick-ass present.

Close second would be the 51" widescreen we picked out. (combo Xmas/Birthday present).

When I was growing up, my mom didn't have much jewelry, but she had this blue lindy star ring and necklace in silver settings that she always wore. She hasn't worn it as much in the last 5 or 10 years since she's gotten a lot nicer pieces.

When we were on vacation this year, we were talking about our favorite jewelry. I mentioned that I absolutely loved the lindy star, mostly because it reminds me of her.

She gave it to me on my birthday. I cried

My mother passed down to me my grandmothers antique mahoghany armoire a year ago. It's one of the few gifts I've ever received that I truly treasure.

With no jewelry presents, I feel a bit out of place in this thread.

Off the top of my head on the spot...

I got this two and a half foot tall penguin dressed up as a butler with an outstretch tray... It holds my water/juice/beer/mead while I play. It kicks ass. (from my Aunt for christmas)... I also took a year of Gemstone as a present for my birthday once.

my dad recently gave me a baseball signed by all my team mates framed in a case with the words "proud of you then, proud of you now".

I still get choked up thinking about it.

When a person remembered my birthday without me reminding her or anything. I'm getting a little misty thinking about it right now.

A small picture out of a newspaper with servicemembers saying, "Home of the Brave"

Most sentimental.. Not the most flashy at all though.

I love the outdoors. For my graduation my dad got the two of us a trip to go kayaking around the San Juan Islands(off of Washington state) for a week. We kayaked around the islands all day and camped at night. To me that was huge because it was really the last time that my dad and I have speant a significant amount of time together. I left home a few weeks later for college and now I have my own apartment but I will always remember the trip. I think I am going to call my parents tonight...

Hands down the stuffed bear, hereto referred to as Bad News, that I got when I was in elementary school. Many an hour have been spent powerbombing him into the floor, and he's still going strong chilling on top of my TV.

At midnight on my 18th birthday, my dad woke me up, told me he loved me, and pressed an 1883 silver dollar from his grandmother into my hand.

Three years ago on my birthday my then boyfriend sent me roses to work, one for each birthday I ever had, with a note on each stem about what happened in my life that year.

Two years ago on my birthday, my then fiance made me a scroll with the lyrics to our song on it in calligraphy.

This past birthday, my now husband hand carved me a pentacle out of oak, stained and etched it, mounted the star so it will turn.

Since I'm pretty lucky about getting gifts I ask for (laptop computer for 21st birthday, for example) the unasked for gifts I receive stick in my head the most.

Two years ago I wanted an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner for Christmas. I own a good deal of vintage jewelry (and my Tiffany jewelry) and wanted something to keep them sparkling. Ontop of that, I knew I needed one eventually for my silverworking I was going to do in the future. I knew they were expensive so I told Scott that was the only thing I wanted that year. Sometime around then too I was talking about how nice it would be to get a Tiffany's bracelet since I have almost an entire set of their jewelry (earrings, necklace, ring, etc). And that was that.

Christmas day comes and I get my jewelry cleaner. I'm so stoked I tear into the box and pull it out so I can start cleaning jewelry right then and there :D . I lift it out of the box, open the lid, and lo' and behold...a small blue box was sitting inside the jewelry cleaner!

Inside was one of those Tiffany tag bracelets. I started crying, of course, because I knew he had spent way too much on me, but he said he wanted to suprise me (and he later confessed he got a larger holiday bonus than he expected).

So, silly little piece of jewelry, but the memory will stick in my head forever.

But, it ties, of course, with the digital camera I got this last Christmas that had the pictures of Scott on it asking me to marry him. :)

In terms of pure material worth, my parents and all four grandparents conspired to buy me an exotic sportscar for my 21st (Ferrari 355 if i remember correctly, one year used). I drove it once and kept it garaged for the next six months. I then traded it to one of my college pals (plus cash) for a modest condo in the city, where I still live today.

In terms of pure sentimentality, one of my college girlfriends gave me a month-long sexual carte blanche "coupon" for my b-day. Any time, any place, in any way I wanted it, as long as it wouldn't cause permanent marks or nerve damage. Still get goosebumps just thinking about it. Gotta find her number again...

I thought about this topic all day, and can't come up with a best, sentimental gift I have received from someone.

I went to Paris with my family as my graduation present.
I...
I'm gonna go cry.
I've never found someone who cared to give me something special.

When I graduated from college my husband and his mother put together a huge graduation party for me. Since Mike loathes parties, this was a wonderful gesture.

Later that year, I got the notice that I had passed my state boards the day before our anniversary. He took me out to our favorite restaurant and gave me a beautiful silver bracelet whose links formed the words 'I love you'. I wore it until it literally disintegrated and I've never stopped looking for another one to replace it.

About six weeks ago, I got a package in the mail from the zoo. I hadn't heard much from them since I'd retired and had become rather touchy on the subject, having convinced myself that everybody there loved my replacement and was glad I had left.
I open the package, and inside is a beautiful hardcover book, dedicated to me and filled with gorgeous pictures of every animal in the zoo, and shots of my clinic and my favorite veterinarian. I cried for days after I got it. The dedication reads: 'Kimm, Sometimes words are not enough and pictures are best left to speak for themselves. Thank you for all you brought to us and thank you for all you did for them. Your friends at the Queens Zoo.'

I'll treasure this book forever.

I had a solid silver crucifix given to me when I turned 16, I don't wear it but I sleep with it under my pillow. I also had a lovely gold cross inset with little diamonds from my Mum and a St Christopher talisman with an engraved message on the back from my Grandparents on my 18th Birthday.

Also, my Laptop and car were pretty cool gifts! ;)

I'm really close to my Grandpa Bruce. He used to be a Park Ranger (he was the superintendent at Grand Canyon when he retired). He's the one who taught me how to ski, and taught me all the stuff I know about hiking, backpacking, and camping. For six years he and my Grandma took me once a year to Purgatory to ski, and we went on a ton of day-hiking trips around Flagstaff and the San Francisco Peaks. We also went on four weeklong backpacking trips with a big family group over the years.

My Grandpa is 85 now. He still skis three days a week during the winter (mostly half-days), and two summers ago he made what he says is his last rim-to-rim hike of the Grand Canyon. He sticks to day hikes now. For Christmas last year, he gave me a huge photo album filled with pictures of all our hikes, ski trips and backpacking trips together. I'm not a big crier, but I got totally weepy.

I guess the best present is having a Grandfather I can relate to as a friend and person as well as a Grandparent, and getting to spend so much time with him over the years. When he's gone, that photo album (complete with captions for every photo) will be a great reminder of all the fun we had.

Spun, you're so blessed.

I'd give anything for the chance to know any of my grandparents or my father. Three of my grandparents died before I was born and my mother's mother died when I was 4 or 5, too little for anything but very fuzzy snapshots of memory. My father died when I was 18 months old, and I don't remember him at all.

I think your memories and photo book are just wonderful.
