I was finally divorced, I exclaimed this victory just as happily as you did. People didn't know how to respond to it. They thought that I shouldn't be happy about it because the loss of a marriage is sad.

Yeah... um, okay.

Congrats hon!

The loss of a marriage is sad... if it's a good marriage. The only thing good to come from it is our daughter, which we're remaining friendly and civil to protect.

Hahaha, me too. I can't count how many times people said "sorry", only for me to quickly reply "it's a great thing! I'm happy"

50% of women shouldn't marry since they are unable to live with themselves.

That's why most marriages doesn't work.

Xcalibur that is ending his 7th year of marriage happily

Please provide a link to the study from which you get the figure that "50% of women" are "unable to live with themselves."

100% of Xcalibur's should not make up bullshit numbers, since it makes them look stupid.

That would be The Tortoise and the Hare.

Your picture had absolutely nothing to do with the subject being discussed. As a result, it asploded.

You are wrong again, X. The top three links there had to do with African women, something to do with HIV. I'm fairly certain that HIV is not the cause of Cat's divorce, and I am definitely certain she is not African.

Stunseed wins.

Let's try a little experiment. Let's just ignore Xcalibur, who is NOT the subject of this thread, and whose desire to be so does not need to be fed.

Let's stick to celebrating Cat's divorce with her, eh?

OHHHH dear arrogant-lady-that-knows-everything-and-becomes-angry-at-people-telling-her-what-to-do-even-if-she-does-the-same-for-others...

It has MUCH to do.

Too many people marry themselves too earlier, before knowing the TRUE person in the other.

WORSE... too many girls marry a guy and HOPE (and think) that she'll be able to change him.

A big but: Nobody changes.

p.s. Spungirl: Wrong.

Um... we were together for 3 years before we got married, I didnt want to change him. When you bring a baby into the picture, THINGS CHANGE, you have to step up and be a man.

I too offer my congratulations. I might be happily married, but I remember distinctly my mom celebrating when she got divorced.
The lifing of what can be an awful burden is more than enough reason to celebrate!

After my divorce became official, my new ex and I went across the street and did a quit claim deed for the house, then went out for a burger. We were civil for our daughter to the point that we're actually friends again. Not that we hang out (except at her events/occasions), but I'll say that EVERYONE is happier now.

And his fiance is way cool.

Congrats on the relief of the stress, and the luxury of moving on with your life.

It's been a 18 months, for sure. Took me a year to decide that it would be harder on her if we stayed together, and everything I tried didn't work.

Live and learn. I have a beautiful little girl out of it so it wasn't all bad.

That's the way to look at it, Cat. Children don't always benefit by two people holding together a bad marriage. In fact, they rarely benefit. Hopefully, you and your ex-husband will be able to maintain a generally amiable relationship for the sake of the child, but she'd gain nothing by living with two people who couldn't stand one another, IMHO.
