View Full Version : UPS SUX THE BIG ONE.

So here's what happened. On Tuesday July 12th (my birthday!) UPS was supposed to deliver two packages coming from two different shippers. The first was from Adidas, containing new shoes that my husband ordered for himself. The second was my MINI IPOD that my husband ordered for me for my birthday (he couldn't find anyone in town that had a pink one in stock).
He sat at home with the tracking numbers, obsessively clicking "refresh" on the UPS page every five minutes. At 17:23, it said they hadn't been delivered. at 17:28, both said delivered to our address. Since he'd been sitting on the freaking couch RIGHT THERE and no one had knocked on the door, he went out to peek on the doorstep.
No packages.
He immediately called UPS... the 800 number. They put in a call to the local center, who called us back (by this time I had made it home from work). They contacted the driver, who said, "I put the packages on the doorstep, but yeah, I didn't knock or anything." So we had to file a claim, bla bla.... no packages... I filed a report with the Henderson PD for theft because shit, who knows what happened? Maybe some little shit nearby snatched them off the porch, or maybe the driver just decided to take them home.
I find this pretty freaking suspicious for a few reasons, the first of which is that this has NEVER happened to me with UPS before. If I'm not home when they try to deliver, I get a sticky on my door saying they'll try again, and to leave a note if they can release it at the door. So why not this time?
We issued a chargeback on the credit card for BOTH packages (since it was about $320 worth of stuff) and Washington Mutual was le awesome about it. They basically told us that unless UPS can prove that we signed for the packages, they're not making us pay for shit. Today we come home from a weekend at the beach and find a notice from UPS on the door (since they're no doubt being hounded at this point by Adidas and Apple for the refund/insurance payback on those packages). The note basically said that they needed to know if we got the packages (NO!) and that if we say we did not, they will "investigate for fraud."
I am fucking pissed. We got no packages, and luckily don't have to pay any money. However, I don't want to be accused of fraud by some shorts-wearing dumbshit UPS driver.
Is there anything else we should be doing here?

You should be in the clear. No one signed for anything and he didn't leave it with any neighbors. The poop is on their doorstep.

Since you never got the packages, you're certainly not guilty of fraud. The UPS driver, however, may have some explaining to do.

LOL, Backlash. Doing much harm to the UPS driver's dick might have been just as satisfying.
But yes.

You'd think, wouldn't you? When I talked to the woman at the local center (the next day, when I called the 800 number again and DEMANDED that they call me - you can't just call the local center yourself) the woman said, "well, I'll ask that the driver be reprimanded." REPRIMANDED??!!? What the fuck!
What they have essentially done is set up a system where drivers can pluck any package they find interesting and say, "eh, I put it on the porch." And UPS as a company just abdicates all responsibility. I'll never ship ANYTHING with them again after this.

At the zoo whenever I had to ship I tried Airborne Express first, then FedEx. I used UPS as a last resort because they were the least reliable.
Maybe they're a union shop, which would make it way more trouble than it's worth to reprimand the driver. When a company reprimands a union member, that member immediately files a beef with the union. This means, at the very least, that there will have to be a sit down with the employee in question, the supervisor, the supervisor's boss, and the union shop steward. It only gets messier after that. At least that's how it worked at the zoo, it was a nightmare process to discipline even the worst slackers.
I am sorry about your packages, though. Pink IPOD. Yum! I hope you get replacements soonest! And happy birthday.

can you prove that your signature or someone at your address did not sign for the stuff?
I bet the driver can since he has a signatue in his tablet.

I will agree with you Spun. I just ordered a Bowflex(no laughing from the peanut gallery. It actually works now. Long story with that)
UPS guy actually knocked on my door.. guess he couldnt just stick 8 packages by the door. But one of the packages was so beat up it looked like it was run thru a tiller. The driver was actually laughing as he brought it to the door.
Opened it. The two main pieces to construct the entire thing were so bent they resembled pretzels. UPS driver is still laughing and says let me make a report of this that is screwed up
So far I am waiting on a claim person from UPS to come take pictures because they dont believe me that heavy metal was turned into pretzels. Rather annoying

i once copped clothes from an online polo store thinking i was being all slick and shit saving myself the effort of being a mall rat and what have you.... i then ended up having to get half of em tailored after they arrived- I would have that much more difficult of a time, now, knowing what i do, trying a by something even more intricate like that like shoes or a hat
and i seriously doubt ups' ability to deliver pretty much anything like they used to , with continuingly upped demand from internet shopping, fed-ex has remained much, much more reliable , for me and what not anyways....

Lolzies we sold them at work (best buy) so I brought mine home!!!1
I also price matched against another store in the city, so I got mine for 13.99
I pwn.
You did the right thing. The chargeback will help with the "investigation" as well. Without a signature they have NO PROOF OF DELIVERY. Either the chargeback will stand and you'll be permanently reimbursed, or the companies will re-ship the merchandise at no charge once the claims are approved. That should be easy with the police report and the fact that bothe packages were supposedly left unsigned.

FedEx is awesome and my delivery guy is really cute.

During this whole pregnancy thing I was an online ordering fiend, since I couldnt go anywhere. And ALL of the times UPS was the shipper, I never got a knock at the door. I always walked outside to see the packages just sitting there on my porch. To my knowledge I didnt NOT get anything. But I have no idea if people sent us presents or not that I didn't get. I guess if I start getting angry phone calls, I'll know.
I'm sorry K. Hope you're birthday was good anyhow

If I got a package delivered by someone like UPS and they just left it on the doorstep, I would ring up and say it didnt arrive.
That is the stupidest shit. Anyone can take it if its on your doorstep.

I've never had any problems with UPS of FedEx. UPS doesn't usually get a signature from me unless the sender specifies they require it. They leave the stuff on the stoop outside my back door. That was their idea and it's a great one, especially since we don't use our front door for anything anyway. Plus our back yard is gated, so passersby can't see that there's anything there to steal.
When we lived in the condos they always put the boxes in our utility closet outside our unit.
I've never had anyone steal anything left for us - but then, I've never lived in a neighborhood where people would steal shit from someone else's yard anyway.

<<That is the stupidest shit. Anyone can take it if its on your doorstep.>>
Anyone can take your car if you park it in a parking lot, outside your house, in a parking garage, or anywhere else. What a stupid thing to say. Anyone can kill you if you're out in public, so don't go out in public, right? If someone steals something from your property, it's trespassing and theft. UPS makes the assumption, "There's a very low chance that before the owner of this property retrieves the package, someone will commit trespassing and theft."
It's all Jesae's fault.

Unless you live on some kind of commune or something, fortunate would be a better description.

Can't blame fortune for your choice in neighborhoods. Don't hate just because I chose to live in decent ones where neighbors don't steal from each other and the only people who visit are people who have been invited.

I've never lost anything that was left on my doorstep, either. However, that doesn't mean that some of the neighborhood children aren't fully capable of making off with something like that just for a lark. Some of us are fortunate not to lose such deliveries. Others aren't so fortunate. If it was the driver who took these things, on the other hand, the neighborhood has absolutely nothing to do with it, IMHO.

I would not trust something to be left on my doorstep in the neighborhood I live in now. It would probably be ok, but if I'm getting it from the internet (which is really the only reason I'd have something shipped to me), it's expensive or I can't get it around here and I'd rather not take chances.

Jazuela, please STFU with haste. I live in Henderson, which happens to be one of the nicest areas in Vegas.
Any smart person that strolled around looking for a package to snatch off a doorstep would go to a neighborhood where people have more money, thusly would be more likely to order higher-value items in the mail.
Of course, I suppose if I want to live in a REALLY nice neighborhood where crime is a nonissue, I should quit my professional-level job and start flipping burgers and mouthing off to customers at BK, right?
Your "insights" are not appreciated.

 I didn't realize an aromatherapy "degree" was required to know when the customer's burger has reached the necessary level of greasiness. Perhaps it's the smell!

Wonder if an aromatherapy degree is a 2-year or 4-year program...

Takes a sensitive and trained nose to know just when to flip that burger nowadays?

A certified aromatherapist earns about a $21,000 salary at entry level; and one that caters to many clients can earn up to $75,000.
I'd love to see someone belittle that figure.

I get a kick out of making fun of my customers, right to their faces......
Often I'll get customers who'll order the double-whopper with cheese, a king-sized fry, a slice of cheesecake, and..
a diet coke.
I just laugh at them. I mean - loudly. Obnoxiously. "You're kidding me right?" "Oh - well I have to cut down somewhere." "Uh - have you tried, y'know, not eating at Burger King every day?"
I swear these customers eat this shit up. They LOVE the abuse. And I get to have fun abusing them.
You really do have to wonder where the person who made this post comes off insinuating her lifestyle is so superior to anyone else's.

Interesting...a local UPS driver here in New Orleans was arrested last week. Seems he's made off with over 300K in stuff in the last couple of years including computers and the thing that got him caught...a $20k bike. Anyway, took UPS 6 months to catch him and a massive fraud inverstigation is underway. And all of these were the same thing. Packages that didn't need to be signed for that he said he left on the doorstep. One thing you can do is request anyone shipping to you to tick the box that says must be signed for. I started doing this after UPS kept leaving shit on my doorstep and I don't live in a great part of town.
Just to add to the deliveries suck thing. The USPS has lost a REGISTERED package of mine. Was up there this morning trying to sort it out <sigh>

I lived in one of the worst areas of Southeast DC and dreaded when I'd get FedEx or UPS packages because I just knew they'd leave them at the doorstep while I was at work and they would be gone within fifteen seconds of them leaving.
So, after me telling them not to put packages at my door...they proceed to start HURLING THEM UP TO MY THIRD FLOOR BALCONY.
I had a nice ATX power supply arrive in a shattered mess because of that idiocy. I'm glad I've got a single family home now.
