GUNNER PALACE
A documentary by Michael Tucker, about a unit in Iraq. Live action real stories, interesting people. And amazing visuals about what it is really like over there.
Informative to say the least, I enjoyed it greatly.
Also every with every purchase a donation is made to the Fisher House Foundation, which helps out military families.
more info can be found http://www.gunnerpalace.com/
at that address to include trailers.
(backlash im about 90% sure you will like it.)

Becket (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057877/)
This is an incredible movie with fantastic performances by two marvelous actors: Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole. It's the story of Henry II and Thomas Becket starting from when Becket was a friend and advisor to the King. It's both entertaining and informative.
The sequel is The Lion in Winter (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063227/) which is just as good. Peter O'Toole reprises his role as Henry II and Katherine Hepburn is Eleanor of Aquitaine.
Both highly, highly recommended (otherwise they wouldn't be in this thread).

This is a great film which, while it is positioned as a "murder-mystery", has alot to be said about North and South Korean relations.

Midnight Run, Clue, and Pink Panther (under the category of they're what movies should be: extremely entertaining).
For teh Christians, Passion of the Christ (under the category of breaking the routine celebration of Mass/Easter). Other folks can certainly see it if they want, but I don't think it'd be much more than some guy getting brutally tortured in their eyes (which isn't the funnest thing in the world to watch).

That person would be the one and only David Bowie.
Edaarin and Kumar go to White Castle... Watching it now and I love this movie.. Funny as hell.

Also.. Roadtrip.. These are the types of comedies I love hardcore.

Seconded. Awesome acting, even though the situation is amazingly fucked up.
I'm going to put forward Gandhi (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083987/). Ben Kingsley is amazing in this film, he actually becomes Gandhi. One of the best movies I've ever seen.

We went and watched at a drive-in friday night. Fantastic Four and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Loved the latter, very disappointed on how corny fantastic four was. They couldn't have casted the worst cast ever.
My first time at a drive-in was less than satisfactory. We were so excited to go, we brought pillows and a cooler with lots of goodies. I was told it was 5$ for each person.. but as it turns out, it was only for cheap nights, so we had to pay regular price. Then there was a big sign that says no outside food allowed, so we had to hide our wendy's all over the place and glove compartment. The weather was bad because it was hot and humid, don't get me started with the line up to their probably icky public washrooms. I had to contain myself from peeing my pants for 4 hours :(

Rocky Horror Picture Show - Check your local theater for a midnight showing, you have to go to one to appreciate it. If you watch it on DVD for the first time you'll just sit there going "What the fuck is this shit?!"
The Princess Bride - because Andre the Giant is in it
The Dark Crystal - Gelflings, need I say more?
Hedwig and the Angry Inch - Because it's just THAT fucked up.

"Harvey" with Jimmy Stewart. It's an old black & white that I figured I'd hate, til my dad forced me to give it a shot when I was about 17.
I have loved it ever since. It's witty, fun, and well.. Jimmy Stewart!

Rise to the Occasion -- the single best porn movie title ever.
I am Sam -- Usually not a huge fan of Sean Penn, but he was born for this role.
Rocky IV -- I still haven't gotten over Apollo Creed's death yet. Brutal.
Godfather -- "We'll get there pop." Just sends chills through your spine.
No matter how bad, pretty much every Pacino flick has a 2-5 minute segment where he takes over the entire movie.

It's an audience participation movie.

I agree with Wonderland. That movie was slightly disturbing, but really good.
Outside Providence. Just a great story. The scene where the headmaster reads the letter is one of the funniest movie scenes EVER.

Ordinary People.
It's the story of a family disintegrating after the death of one of their sons and the attempted suicide of the other. It's a real tear jerker with some excellent performances. Oscar winner in 1980.

Hell. Here's a few more:
To Sir With Love. Sidney Poitier. Am educated, black teacher begins teaching in a school in lower class England.
Auntie Mame. Rosalind Russell. A rich, eccentric woman becomes the legal guardian of her orphaned nephew. Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death.
The Mark of Zorro. The 1940 version with Tyone Power. No one's done it better.
The Court Jester. Danny Kaye. One of his best films.
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. The last Tracy/Hepburn movie before he died. Also with Sidney Poitier. Interracial romance and how the parents react.
The Adventures of Robin Hood. You know the story. 1938 version with Errol Flynn.

I didn't like ordinary people for some reason. I did enjoy the book though, and I'm not one of those OMG books always better den movie! people. I just don't care for Robert Redfords direction.
Heat, Easy Rider, and PCU are the beginnings of my list. I also enjoy all the movies on Arkan's comedy list but Harold and Kumar while hilarious gets under my skin because when they were in Newark there was a white castle like 10 minutes away.

Any John Wayne movie but in particular "True Grit"
"What's Eating Gilbert Grape" was a good movie although I find Johnny Depp disturbing in other movies for some reason.
Edit: OMG slapping myself for forgetting: "Amadeus"

Some that deserves repeat suggestions...
Look who's coming for Dinner
Auntie Mame
Secretary
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Godfather
Couple of other ones I think are worth watching...
Once upon a time in America (Jewish Gangsters in New York)
On the Waterfront
Shoes of the Fisherman (great movie that helps you understand the process and role of who the "Pope" should be)
The Robe (The Story of the ones who were set after Jesus to crucify him)
Monty Python (need I say more)
Anything of Fellini (the vision of what he sees and imagines is incredible)
Close Encounter of the third kind (I think it is hysterical)
The Big Chill (one the best tales of a group of friends that I ever seen)
The way we were (Love)
Newer movies that I enjoyed watching....
American History X (great acting, great point)
Cinema Paradiso (Friendship, love and not letting go of your roots)
Braveheart (Speaks for itself)
Bronx Tale (one the better and realistic “mob movies I seen)
Grosse Point Blank (Funny as hell)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (I just really enjoyed it)
Stir of Echoes (one the best I seen involving the trend of all those movies that have to do with ghosts, etc.)
I will probably remember more over time that caught my attention and eye.
Nice thread though, I love hearing movie suggestions.

City of God - Just a great movie about life on the streets in one of the worst slums in the world. Shows how family are separated by drugs, feuds, and just the different choices people make to try to advance through the poverty.
Braveheart - Great movie if you haven't seen it already, though quite long.

Breakfast at Tiffany's
Zoolander - I remember seeing commercials for this when it was in the theatre and thinking it looked like the stupidest idea for a movie I'd ever heard of. But I am ashamed to admit that I found it hilarious after watching it....provided you can survive the first 10 minutes.
Snatch -- Just a good movie with funny characters. It was funny in parts, and had a good plot.
