I saw this, and had to post it. It makes me smile in the midst of non-smile situations (shit, my english has deteriorated to nothing). I'd be more shamed for my purchase than the fact that I was embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars.....(see bolded part below)

Wal-Mart said Coughlin spent more than $30,000 in company funds on a hunting lease, $10,000 on a customized hunting vehicle, and $8,500 for an all-terrain vehicle.

"The scheme depended on subordinates who were willing to follow Coughlin's instructions even when they knew their conduct violated Wal-Mart policies and controls," the filing said.

Wal-Mart said many of those subordinates were in the company's operations development department, which Bowen headed at the time he was fired.

The retailer said the incident that ultimately led to Coughlin's resignation and Bowen's firing involved 51 Wal-Mart gift cards of $100 each that Coughlin asked Bowen to buy as a reward to "All-Star" employees for superior performances.

Wal-Mart alleges that Coughlin instead used the cards himself to buy items ranging from 12-gauge shotguns to a Celine Dion CD.

Well, all the money they saved hiring illegal immigrants to clean their stores had to go SOMEWHERE!

It is obvious Walmart saved the man's life.

Anyone who buys a shotgun and Celin Dion CD is going to commit suicide

I thought TheE said he was in the Peace Corps? Anyway, Wal-Mart is terrible. Shop at Target instead!

What makes you think they are any different? Both hire the same people, and buy the same cheap chinese products.

Target charges more. What you lose in money you gain in ambience. This includes nicer things laid out better, and also not shopping with Cletus and Waitrasaurus Rex.

I rarely shop at WalMart, unless it's three in the morning. That's because I get this almost irresistable urge to run people down with my cart. I resist the urge by saying very rude things to these throwbacks in a loud voice. Neither is really something I enjoy.

Shopping at neither WalMart nor Target makes me a happy person.

I actually enjoy working for Wal-Mart. They pay me well.

Some folks'll never lose a toe...
But then again, some folks'll,
Like Cletus... the slack-jawed yokel.

"I kin see my maw from up here... HEY MAW!! GET OFF THE DANG ROOF!!"

Just because Steve Wal-mart is a bad guy doesn't mean that Wal-mart is bad.

I think it's 'I can call my maw from up here,' the joke being he's near telephone wires on a telephone pole, but then yells instead because she's a hick on her roof.

I love that line, lol.

True, but walmart is bad. It is the physical incarnation of all that is evil.

I worked for wal mart before I was pregnant. Hell if they wanna pay me 14 bucks and hour to work at wal mart... more power to them...

Speaking of codes though... Had a manager trip over somethin in the backroom, and hit his head, he was so out of it he paged a code brown, then green, then blue, then finally figured out why no one was coming to save his ass, and paged a white.
(shooting, hostage, bomb, and accident, respectively)

And a bunch of people who worked there had been wondering what coughlin did to get forced to resign. Its sad when your stock options alone are in the millions.. and you have to buy celine dion cds with stolen giftcards.. wtf

I think I get it. The heart of Wal-Mart is each one of us.

Yes, you got that right.

Yeah, what Artha said. I don't mind paying higher prices at Target to get rid of some of the rifraff. I also like their Sonia Kashuk makeup line and the plethora of cheap flip-flops you can find there during the summer.

I am in the Peace Corps, fo' sho, in Namibia.

Since in Namibia, Nam is the abbreviation for everything (NamWater is our water utility, NamPower, NamCOL, etc, etc) we like to start all our stories with...

"When I was in the Corps, back in Nam...."

It might be sacriligious to you military types out there, but us liberal hippy types need something to keep ourselves sane in the midst of craziness everywhere.
