Okay, so I want to get back into gaming. I have a choice...

Should I either play EQ2 (Where I have a level 50 <capped> Coercer)

or should I play GSIV (Where I have a level 40 Faendryl Warrior... known as Cheslica).

I enjoy both games, each one offering different things to me. Unfortunately I can't afford to play both since they are both time consuming. I'm completely 50/50 here and so help me out!

I play both so can't really advise you much. Though I have been playing more EQII lately. curious as to what server you are on. AB here.

The new expansion looks awesome, downloaded the movie and it was pretty cool.

How many expansions have there been for EQII so far? This the first one coming out?

This is the first official expansion. They have had two "adventure packs" which cost about 4.99 and offer you a few additional skills/items/quests/zones.

Two adventure packs so far. this will be first expansion.

In it they are introducing rock climbing, PvP, factions taking control of cities, etc....

Depends on whether or not you count their 'adventure packs' where they sell you one dungeon at a time.

This is probably their first big one, as far as I know, I stopped paying attention a bit ago so they might've slipped one by me.

I capped in EQ2 and found endgame to be really blah. I don't like the be-in-a-big-guild-or-no-content-for-you crap. Being depenant on strangers sucks. All you need to do is hit the one random ass that gained levels by afk leeching and he'll totally screw up a night. Finding competant like-minded people is a chore. People cycle through and move on.

I played EQ2 for a while and it got really drab and blegh. I vote GSIV if you can get into it. If not, fuck em both.

PS: Fuck WoW too

I'm not end game yet (41) but have a lot of capped friends and they are having a blast. I really do think it helps to meet people who enjoy the game for the game. We are not a huge end-game raiding guild for example but our capped members do just fine and just have fun. To each their own I guess.

I recommend getting into a hardcore raiding guild. You can totally depend on the people there. If you're on the AB server, Eidolon is my favorite guild there. Also, tools like Teamspeak and Vent really let you get to know the people you play with.
I have hunted with stupid people... I've hunted with amazing people. I've died in raids, I've seen raids go down beautifully. The end-game can be fun - it also depends on what server you're on. I would say AB is the best server - there are a lot of people and there are definately groups of soloers who come together once in a while for a raid.

Just DON'T join Halycon Affinity. Please. God what jerks. But heard good about Eidolon as well. I'm in a lowkey guild called Resurgence. We have fun but no serious raiding yet.

For the people who voted play GSIV - Why?

Cheslica doesn't exactly have the best history - In fact there was a time I couldn't even set foot on these boards without being engaged in an all out flame war. I do miss roleplaying and character control - something that Gemstone offers me far above and beyond any other game... but what else draws you to gemstone... Or better yet, what makes you believe it is a more suitable game?

I have had serious issues with Halycon Affinity in the past. I detest the guild for the most part and refuse to interact with their members due to poor conduct. Furthermore, Eildolon has offered me a lot more. We are a close knit family - All I can say is, every time I get on Vent with them, I spend the majority of the time cracking up at their witty remarks.

HA = Bad.
Little Guilds = Good
Eidolon = Best for me.

Well as I said, welcome to send a tell anytime. I'm just hoping to hit 50 before the expansion comes out. My capped friends want me to be in on some of the stuff they do there with them, since I've never been in on any firsts with them. And at 41 all I would see is "resisted, resisted, resisted" hehehe. Been so busy lately. Weeeeeeee

If you want Roleplay, GS4.

If that isn't your sole focus, there are definitely better games out there.

If you want RP go to UL.

You played Cheslica? ROFL

I vote EQ2 for you.

"If you want RP go to UL. "

Some people like combat mechanics.

If you dig raiding, EQ2. I find PvP the only gratifying aspect of those games at all.

If you want RP, do GS4. Forty levels is a lot of commitment, as little as I liked Cheslica. However, changes have made it easier to start over.

Considering there seems to be a better resale market for GSIV characters and gear, I'd probably cash in and play EQ2 if you really enjoy playing that game. Its doubtful that you'll find anyone willing to trade.

I only play GSIV. Have a huge investment in characters in gear and dont plan on selling out until I just dont have the time to play period. Then I'll sell and go on a shopping spree at Frys, BestBuy, or Circuit City.

Or you could just eat your investments and try wow. I'd definately recommend that if you were a tool in GSIV. Wow would make an excellent opportunity for rebirth if you're looking to shed the past.

Hardcore raiding guilds were an option, but not necessarily a good one. The first few are probably fun, but then it begins to feel like work. You have to stay logged in for hours to get things done.

One of the major reasons why I like GS over any of the graphical MMOs, you can get a hunt done in 15 to 20 minute stints. Never feels like you can accomplish anything in small bits in EQ.

Another issue is travel. In GS, you can move from place to place relatively quickly. You want to haul your ass from Freeport to some dungeon near Qeynos? Prepare for a good 2 hour jog.

I did the big raiding in EQ1, my grades suffered because of it. I'm not willing to throw in that kind of devotion again.

My apologies for bumping this thread, but I thought I should let everyone know my decision. Although I have a great fondness for Gemstone and enjoyed the years I spent - I have decided to play Everquest 2.
While I do believe I will never find roleplay which can compete with that I had in Gemstone, I feel as though it is time for me to move on.
The quality of roleplay and the people truly make Gemstone what it is. I loved the freedom of the game, and the fact you could go beyond bland roleplay and create an indepth charactered that abided by the lore. Something that did get me in trouble. But, I was young and immature - and in the passed two years I have grown up. I think it best I close that chapter now - perhaps to return one day - but today is not that day.
Regardless, I wanted to thank everyone who played with me. You truly made the game great - even if I hated you. Enjoy your remaining years of play.

Best wishes,
Ieva.... Cheslica's player...
