Bill Simmons, on ESPN.com's "Page 2" is just amazing.

I use these boards as a creative writing excersize... and, from time to time, I've come up with some good stuff...

But he's just on another level...

When talking about this season's mediocre Yankees:

"Torre carries himself with the confidence of a stunned father who just saw his two daughters flashing their breasts on a "Girls Gone Wild" video."

I don't have that gear yet...

Wow.

He's been mailing it in for over a year now. How long have you been reading his columns?

They're a shell of what they were about 14+ months ago.

He used to drop a dozen gems like the one you mentioned in every column. Now you have to search for them.

He used to put out at least 3 columns a week, that were several times longer and chock full of great lines. His pop culture knowledge was once nothing short of astounding.

The draft diaries and fantasy drafts were my personal favorite, along with his DeNiro-Pacino faceoff.

Well, it seems that every great writer eventually runs out of original material...

At least he is not making the obvious habit of recycling old ones?

I enjoy his columns as well.

I've been reading his stuff for about two and a half to three years.

For one, he's been busy writing a book.

Also, he had a kid.

He's also tried to switch to a blog-style that doesn't give him time to really polish his stuff.

He's put out more stuff, but it hasn't been as good... I'll give you that. But I don't know of anyone else that puts out anything remotely close to him on a regular basis...

I was lucky and got referred to the BSG quite some time ago. While the last year has been a little weak, he is one of the few writers that I think may make it into Dave Barry territory - someone that can make you laugh out loud three or four times while reading his column.

My favorite quote ever.

The Julia Roberts in "My Best Friend's Wedding" Award (best cinematic evidence that women are completely insane)

Runners-up: Cameron Diaz ("Vanilla Sky"); Reese Witherspoon ("Legally Blonde"); Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta-Jones ("America's Sweethearts"); Monica Potter ("Head Over Heels").

Winner: Jennifer Lopez ("The Wedding Planner"). Hey, it's another conniving, desperate woman in her early-30s who's pulling no stops to land a husband! Just shoot me. Shoot me in the head.
