View Full Version : HIVES suck

For the love of all that is holy and good, I never thought tearing off my own skin would sound so freaking appealing.
Five days ago, I had no idea what hives were.
Four days later and literally thousands of outbreaks later, I can now tell what stage of the life cycle a particular hive is in at a glance.
OMFG this thing knows no decency.
Its everywhere.
Doctor says this thing has an open-ended life time.
Gone in four weeks if I'm lucky! I'm ready to jump in front of a bus after four days.
No god in any heaven should allow this kind of torture.
they're everywhere... everywhere...
help.

Take a chlorine bath?
It was quite helpful when my skin had some kind of allergic reaction to the (very large pile of) woodchips I was handling last year when doing some landscaping.
Fortunately for me, I had a spa that I just added extra chlorine into and soaked in it for several nights in a row.
.
Otherwise, guess you will need to have someone tape-up some kind of glove for your hands so you don't scratch at your itches.

Are you sure nothing new has come into your home in that time?
Or your car, or your place of business?

Doc says the damn thing is internal and I have to wait for it to burn itself out.
I woke up at 5AM and found myself scratching myself into a bloody mess. I will find myself a nice pair of mittens.
Whats miserable is I can't get anything done because I can't focus. I try to read anything and I end up scritching.

Was it an allergist or your gp, or an er dr?

Timing is off for it all.
Bathroom being remodeled but we had some issues with the tiles and this breakout happened when nothing was being moved around/broken up.
No new soaps or laundry detergents.
I hadn't eaten anything I haven't eaten a dozen times before.

On benadryl and just got a prescription for allegra.
Benadryl helps but it just makes the damn thing cycle. Every 5-6 hours I get a new outbreak, which coincides with the six hours for the pill.
I was going to buy a camera to document the spread around my body but I think I scare people when I go out. It looks like I'm a walking diseased contagion.
Luckily the benadryl knocks my arse out, I've been trying to sleep this off... but if it keeps up for four weeks I don't know how the hell I'm going to get any work done.
Searching for info about hives on the net is scary.
Some people get chronic hives that last for TWENTY FREAKING YEARS. I so didn't need to know that. There's no cure.

Always have an epi pen and benadryl handy :)
Sorry for the hives. They do suck.

Try Bendadryl...also your doctor should be able to give you something that will help with the breakouts.
When I had chicken pox a few years ago, my doctor gave me an oral medication that worked wonders. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of it.

The first thing you should start doing with all over the counter medication is taking twice the recommended dosage or cutting the time between doses in half.
Liver and other internal organs be damned.

I thought you were talking about the band!
On the serious note I hope they go away for you quickly and without as much liver damage as peam is damning.

Damn you sound like you got it pretty bad.
I got them for a couple days when I ate bad New York clam chowder when I was like 14.
I also think I got shingles a couple weeks ago... Had tingling in my thigh, couple breakouts of chicken pox like things (around 7 of them on my thigh), the lymph node near there swelled up, but in a couple days it all went away so I never got it checked out. I'm just guessing they were shingles.
Good luck though, from what I remember after the clam chowder, they are pretty annoying.

I had a horrible case of hives do too eating too much acidy food when I was a teenager. I actually cried it was so bad... even my eyes swelled up (Thank goddess I didn't need contacts then). The only thing that helped, and I tried everything western medicine had to offer, was acupuncture and the minty smelling ointment they gave me to put on it. The acupuncture really didn't hurt and the hives were gone for the rest of the day pretty much. If you're desperate it works :)
Edited to add : OH and I hope you feel better asap!

Try cold-water oatmeal compresses. They work pretty good for poison ivy and other related allergic reactions.
You can also try dabbing tea tree oil directly on the outbreaks. It'll numb the skin temporarily so it doesn't itch for awhile. You only need around a drop to cover the area about the size of the back of your hand. Do a test area first, since a few people (out of hundreds) have been known to be sensitive to it. If it relieves the problem, use it on more of your skin. If it feels worse, rinse it off with soapy water and the worse feeling will fade within a few seconds.

Stock up on baking soda. Put a couple of cups of baking soda in a tepid bath and soak. You can even rub the baking soda over the itchy areas for relief. :)

That's what made me cry... the baking soda bath burned on the hives :(

Weird. It's supposed to soothe them, and always worked for my cousin, who has always had problems with hives. She's allergic to so many things, and breaks out at the slightest provocation.

Yeah, I used to get hives often when younger too.
Don't go worrying that this is going to keep going on.
My bet is when the construction is all done in your home things may fade away.
Doing construction brings all kind of new elements out into the open in your home, from construction chemicals, to perhaps mold that was uncovered and hopefully removed at the same time.
Possibilities are great.

Well, I recommend vinegar. The miracle liquid.
1/4 a quart of apple cider vinegar to 2 quarts of water.
Seriously.
