View Full Version : I'm so confused

Okay, so I read through most of the paladin folder and I still don't get what is a good training plan for them.
Like, what is the base core training. I read what CM is good for them, so I'm set there.
I totally butchered my paladin's training, so I'm hoping someone can give me an idea what's definitely good and what to pretty much stay away from.
Any help?

You should work on getting more dodge.. I fucked up and forgot to train in it for 22 levels and scrounged the ranks from spare points.

2x armor, shield and weapon
1x HP, PT, CM, Spell and Dodge.
Doing the above is a solid and basic paladin build with enough room for stuff like lores etc.

btw, Biggnife has 257 AS and 152 offensive DS selfspelled with 2x weapon, 5x shield, and 4x armor.

Yeah, I hunted with him using my empath. Thing is, your DS sucks so bad. I haven't seen a paladin with such bleh DS. Heh.
I kinda wanted to stay away from that. Your AS rocks though.
Also, I get mixed answers about lores. What's good for what?
Also, thanks for helping me out you two.

Uhm, your DS in defensive. I didn't see you saying offensive. That's what I was commenting on.

You're right, it's not like Ellisuian never hunted along side Biggnife or anything.

Just for kicks, I swing 402 at level 42 with strength. This includes zealot, of course, as well as level 2 surge and wspec 3, and being bonded at level 3 with 1625, and a 4x weapon. Now I always have wizard spells on, so I can't honestly tell you how good my DS is, but I almost never get hit, and when I do, the halfplate takes care of anything serious. Also, I have zero dodge training, and am two handed, and I do fine. Granted, like I said, I'm wizard buffed all the time, so it may suck in reality, but I do fine against like leveled critters. (250ish ds with a statue and zealot running, 4x plate)
My training-
pounding out armor until fullplate (have 126 ranks currently)
2x weapon
1x cm
1x hp
1x spells (1635, 108 right now)
15 moc (3 critters)
35 pf (will catch up when my armor is done)
21 blessing lore
10 religion lore
10 swim
20 climbing
also working up smc, but thats just because I hunt with a lot of spirit mana hunters, and I don't use my mana often during a hunt.
Not sure if that helps any, but there it is.

I have two paths I am considering...
...the only difference is the spell training, I have the following plan, then one where I remain singled in the Paladin circle... I am trying to decide if I like the higher wardings... but seeing as I can still over hunt 10 trains and ward nearly everytime its getting to be mute.
XXXXXXXXX (at level 54), your current skill bonuses and ranks (including all modifiers) are:
Skill Name | Current Current
| Bonus Ranks
Armor Use..........................| 190 90
Shield Use.........................| 212 112
Combat Maneuvers...................| 190 90
Edged Weapons......................| 212 112
Multi Opponent Combat..............| 140 40
Physical Fitness...................| 105 25
Harness Power......................| 156 56
Spirit Mana Control................| 105 25
Climbing...........................| 105 25
Swimming...........................| 105 25
Spell Lists
Minor Spirit.......................| 20
Spell Lists
Paladin............................| 36
Combat Maneuver training is as follows:
Skill name Mnemonic Ranks
Specialization I wspec1 5
Surge of Strength surge 5
Anyway, that's my two cents.

hey finis, why did you get 5 ranks of surge?
AnticorRifling
06-26-2005, 01:17 AM
3 ranks of surge is the best you can use as a paladin with a 1625'd weapon. At least I think so, pretty sure there is a cap on the bonus to your ST. damn I'm tired. Here's my paladin:
Normal (Bonus) ... Enhanced (Bonus)
Strength (STR): 92 (31) ... 92 (31)
Constitution (CON): 95 (37) ... 102 (41)
Dexterity (DEX): 91 (20) ... 91 (20)
Agility (AGI): 93 (16) ... 93 (16)
Discipline (DIS): 85 (27) ... 85 (27)
Aura (AUR): 93 (11) ... 93 (11)
Logic (LOG): 86 (23) ... 86 (23)
Intuition (INT): 82 (16) ... 82 (16)
Wisdom (WIS): 86 (18) ... 86 (18)
Influence (INF): 55 (-8) ... 55 (-8)
Mana: 168 Silver: 0
(at level 55), your current skill bonuses and ranks (including all modifiers) are:
Skill Name | Current Current
| Bonus Ranks
Armor Use..........................| 250 150
Shield Use.........................| 156 56
Combat Maneuvers...................| 161 61
Edged Weapons......................| 214 114
Multi Opponent Combat..............| 120 30
Physical Fitness...................| 212 112
Harness Power......................| 154 54
Spirit Mana Control................| 50 10
Spiritual Lore - Religion..........| 105 25
Spiritual Lore - Summoning.........| 105 25
Perception.........................| 120 30
Climbing...........................| 90 20
Swimming...........................| 70 15
Spell Lists
Minor Spirit.......................| 20
Spell Lists
Paladin............................| 30
your Combat Maneuver training is as follows:
Skill name Mnemonic Ranks
Feint feint 2
Specialization I wspec1 4
Surge of Strength surge 3
Available Combat Maneuver Training Points: 6
Now that I'm done with MoC, armor, climb and swim (there will be another fixskills before I really need 30/30), I will be picking up some dodge.

I love having an additional 20 AS, and I don't run out of stamina, so it works for me. Add that to my 10 for wspec, and all the other normal crap ... just makes for a better AS. I love having a high AS ... call me strange ... ::grin::

That could explain why I only get 19 instead of 20 AS when I use surge. I have been meaning to bug it, but I am tired of Simu's crap in general, so I try to stay away from staff.

Why only 30 MOC? I love my 40 for focused.
I decided to stop armor at 90 with haub/MBP, will probably go to 120 eventually to drop my magicial hinderance in the minor spirit circle.
I am going back and forth on getting dodge ... with blurs and mobiles, is it really worth it ... thats my dodge quandry.
