I know how enchanting effects parry DS, and I know how it effects shield DS. Anyone wanna tell me how it effects runestaff DS.
To illustrate, enchanting armor another 1x adds 5DS, end of story. Same with parry DS, you enchant the weapon, you gain 5 more parry DS in defensive stance. You enchant a shield another 5x, and you gain 15 DS in defensive with 100 shield ranks, because of the way the formula is. For this reason, I almost always spend coin shields first, then weapon, then armor.
So for runestaves, how does it work? Will enchanting it another 1x, up to 5x get me 5 DS, or maybe more. If it only gets me 5, I'll do the armor first, once I have the coin :)

I heard it wasn't like that. Ask strayrogue, I think he said something like it doesn't make much of a difference. The 1x= 5 ds does not appply.

i tested my 7x before i sold it, the difference between a 7x and a 4x in offensive was i think +3, and in defensive it was +11

you wont hardly see a difference in taking a staff from 4x to 5x

I do believe its half the enchant is applied to DS. So if you're runestaff is +20 enchanted then you'll only see +10 to your DS.

I could be wrong though, but thats how I remember it esplained to me mang.

Wow...well that...blows. Seriously thinking about going 1x shield, even with no weapon/brawling, 1x shield seems better than runestaff (even with 10 or so magical ranks). Anyone's thoughts?

Well... I'm probably going to revert my sorcerer back to shield from runestaff whenever I decide to hunt him again.

My wizard will stay runestaff for now because he can hunt with no problems but is primarily used for enchanting.

My empath has trashed the runestaff training for shield/brawl and added some CM to help offset the manuever based attacks from Griffins.

For some reason the whole runestaff release has been a big letdown in my opinion.

I feel like they can't generate enough DS. Its also sorta pointless. Why convert ptps into mtps to get magical ranks for an inferior defensive ability? You could just use those ptps to get shield and weapon...
Only good thing about it is the rp aspect, and ancilliary skillsets I guess. But even then, only person I would find ancilliary skills at all useful on is like you said, a wizard. I'm going back towards shield, or shield/brawl.

Runestaves were designed for those folk who thought it poor form that pures had to use such a low-brow weapon as a sword and shield. I think the pay-off of "have better magical skills (a bonus for MAGICAL professions" versus "a higher DS but at greater tp cost" is a viable one. They both can work for any pure profession - it just matters where your priorities lie in regards to your character.

And oh yeah, the difference between a 4x and 7x (or 10x) runestave is definately NOT worth the extra few million you'll be spending.

Geez Christ, Stray and I agree on something.

20 mil's like what, 300 bucks open market? To get +11 DS? In a fucking game?

Man if you spend the diff in beer and piss it down the drain, you're still one up.

i was thinking of this for my wizard, but i picked up ranged instead. works like a shield, as in full enchant goes to DS, and it also gave me a way to hit constructs, which i'd normally just avoid using magic only. and i opted in for 2x perception for the aiming aspect, and its going to help a ton for stuff ambushing me. as it stands now, if i'm wearing my 'normal' spellup for hunting otf proper, at level 75, scout's ambush pushdown still puts my DS 55 higher than their AS, and its only going to get better as i get older and regain more spell ranks that i had dropped to get ranged/perception. best option i could have done as far as i'm concerned. 3 benefits in 1
