Might be OFN but for those of you who use Mozilla Firefox it definately loads pages quicker. Hopefully it will help someone.

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0”. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages MUCH faster now!

Great info. I use to use Firefox but found it slower than I.E. Is there any way of speeding up internet explorer?

I.E. is horrible. Just another Microsoft(I think) product that is full of security leaks and crappy coding. Give it time and Microsoft will be trying to play catch up to companies like Mozilla and Google. Both of which are releasing free products that do more than what Microsoft has released in similar fields.

Firefox is already SUPER faster than horrible I.E. I posted an uber firefox tweak link here months ago.. lemme see if I can dig it out.

I want to thank everyone for posting about Firefox so many times. For months I've read various people saying GET IT but I kept putting it off. The other day Xyelin posted in like 3 threads to get it and I finally said screw it and went to DL it.

God it rules. I should have listened to everyone 6 months+ ago. What was I thinking.

The only problem I have found with it to date is posting pictures on PC. Other than that its fast and very secure.

It's worth to have a hosting site for the pictures just to use Firefox. I refuse to use IE anymore. The tabs and extensions are enough to keep me using it for life.

Yeah, I just switch to IE whenever I want to post a pic here(which isn't very often anyway).

Thank you!

I highly recommend that you look at some of the very useful extensions that you can get for Firefox as well. I have FoxyTunes which puts a little icon bar on my lower browser area that enables me to basically configure any music player like JetAudio, WinAmp etc - I can browse, adjust the volume, fast forward etc, adjust tunes, playlists and all from that little useful bar.

A really sweet Auto Copy extension that will auto copy anything you highlight in a browser.

A little app that runs inside Firefox and resides in the lower right hand corner that shows the current weather and the next day's weather. It uses icons, so I currently see a Sun w/ clouds for today and just a sun for tomorrow. Occasionally it will show me the current temp and you can right click and choose from a few weather type sites for further info.

These are just a few of the many really cool extras you can get from their website.

Have Fun!

How do i put the settings back to how they were?

My view of the PC is all crazy now and the only thing i changed was the settings on firefox..
(edited to add that having checked it with IE, all worked normally with that darnit, so it IS firefox causing the error I think.)

You can also make it start up faster.

Right click on the firefox icon, go to properties. Should see a box that says Target: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" Add in /prefetch:1 (Should now read: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" \prefetch:1) and Windows will store it in memory after it's first opened. It will thereafter open faster until a reboot, IIRC.
