I try.

But I can find similarities in Sublime/J5, James Taylor/Jack Johnson, and Bob Marley and pretty much everyone.

Not a huge Jack Johnson fan, but I am a huge Sublime fan. I find myself listening to his version of Badfish over and over again.

Really, I'm a huge hip-hop fan, I just haven't found anything worth listening in a couple years.

well it struck me as funny that you posted J5 to begin with as they are more underground. Well, they used to be anyway. Maybe its just my area but very few people have heard of them.

edit: the only similarities between JJ and JT are the fact that they are singer/songwriters. I dont think I have ever heard a sound like Johnson has in another person's music.

I had tickets to a J5 show in West Chester a few years ago, but I gave them up because I was in Philly for a concert earlier in the week, and didn't want to drive all the way back out there (2.5 hours from where I am in NJ.)

People that didn't even like hiphop told me it was the greatest show they'd ever seen (I think it was J5 and Dilated Peoples).

I love J5 and think it's a shame they haven't sold more records...even my friends that can't stand hiphop/rap like them.

If it was J5/Dilated then I was there. It was truely an amazing show. J5 /Dilated/Swollen are a great trio. Most people have heard songs from one or the other but all 3 are good friends and they tour together alot. Good stuff.

It's more that the vocal style makes me want to jump out a very high window. :) I have to like the singing in music; if I don't like the singing, it's out.

On an on-topic note:

Theatre of Tragedy Retrospect

has now lingered two days on my playlist without removal.

"Flake + Sitting, Waiting, Wishing - Jack Johnson (I'd give ANYTHING to play guitar like this guy) "

I know a few people who are extremely proficient with a guitar and have no trouble playing 90% of music who simply cannot play alot of Jack Johnson. His chords are extremely difficult and it shows how great of a musician he really is.
