Can an UNUSED picture-taking locket be altered BEFORE taking a picture and then be used to take a picture keeping the new alteration intact? Need to know for a mother-to-be present.

the only thing that can be altered on a picture locket if you want to use it to actually take a picture is the base description of it. It can't have a show.

The show of the locket is the picture taken.
