Just curious if anyone else has been keeping up with this. It's been all over the news down here and it fucking sucks. I just hope she's found alive at this point, although it seems pretty far fetched after 11 days of being missing. My heart goes out to her family at right now.

I've been following the story, as well, Makkah, and share your sentiments. I can only imagine how her parents must feel. :(

yeah, this is an unfortunate situation, the local goverment has been really pursuing this case which has alot to say for them. other countries wouldn't necessarily put that much effort into helping locate a foreigner.. Hopefully she's ok, but i am not holding my breath

<<yeah, this is an unfortunate situation, the local goverment has been really pursuing this case which has alot to say for them.>>

Call my cynical, but I believe this is more due to the fact that the colony's economy revolves solely around tourism. They don't want this kinda shit happening for their benefit as much as others'

The only reason the goverment gives a shit about this girl is because of the tourism factor. American tourism is how that colony survives and it will suffer in a dramatic way if someone isn't brought to justice without a body. Rightfully so too.

When a white girl from Alabama goes missing, it is CNN headline news. How many other people went missing in America last month?

You're honestly gonna pull that card?

It's unfortunate, but rather true.

no one knows.

I cant even begin to think about how many homeless, illegal and legal residents go missing daily

Right, so why is she and a select few newsworthy and others aren't? Either you make it a point to help and salvage all missing people or none at all. I'm sure there are less wealthy, less opportunistic people out there with missing people and they don't get the national attention that others do. I find that really unfair.

I hope someone finds out something. To be honest, after 2 weeks missing on an island, she's either being shipped off somewhere or dead. :(

I was in Aruba in '95, it's an amazing place with some of the nicest people anywhere. Yes, their island's economy survives almost entirely on tourism, and I'm sure that's part of why they're going so nuts. But it is international news, which I think is why it's all over the tv. It also tugs on the heartstrings of many people, just like when a kid disappears it gets more news than if it's an adult.

That said .. I can't imagine being her mother. Class trip to one of the "best" spots for hospitality and low crime in the Carribean, and this? Ugh.

I was in Aruba in 2001. Awesome place.

Really hits home when they're talking about searching around the lighthouse where we stood a few years prior.

I'm more worried about the massive underground child prostitution ring in Cambodia than this situtation.

Too bad for the parents though, still.
