MY new tattoo

I'm thinking of getting a tattoo of my two rats. One passed away in December and the other is on his way out. Yeah i know, weird that I'm getting a tattoo of rats, even if they're my pets. They're a little different as in having them as pets has changed my idea of what I want to do with my life.

My idea is this ... the rat in the middle and probably the rat on the right in the following link:

I'm going to change them to get the markings that my rats have so they look like my rats.

Also where should I get it put on me? I'm thinking of on the side of my ribcage, under my arm ... or on the back of my calf.

Eh, but what I don't like about shoulder tattoos is you can never really see them. That's why I chose the places I did. Any other suggestions in a visible spot?

I already have one on the side of my right calf, so if I got it on my leg, it'd be on my left. I don't care about visibility, but I dont want it on my arms, my biceps, and I'm a little unsure about my shoulders.

That was one of the ideas. Even though I had fought with several friends over it, I decided it wasn't appropriate.

Yeah that was another choice. So i guess, unless someone comes up with another spot, it's between those three. Side of ribs, back of calf, or outside of my thigh.

LOL....this one was scrolled lettering with vines and roses around it...and as for hot, well not in my opinion.

I think it looks like a great tattoo, and I like the idea of immortalizing your pets like that.

When you're getting a tattoo, think 'down the road'. Like you might be thin now, but if you gain a lot of weight (hey, we get old, shit happens!) will that tattoo on your body still look good or will you have a couple of stretched out rats?

It's why women probably shouldn't get tattoos on their breasts. You get old, gravity takes its ugly toll, and the tattoo isn't nearly as cute as it used to be.

The one body tattoo I opted for was 'Leather is Better' on my butt. Figured when I'm 105 years old in the nursing home and they're wiping my ass it'll remind them that I used to have a personality.

I've just been through a lot with the rats but to make a long story short ... I was going to school to be a psychiatrist. I got the rats. I built up a lot of respect for the animal and decided to stop the route I was going and am now about to apply to vet school to work with small animals and exotics.

They are rodents. I guess I am missing the point, its a rodent and your going to tattoo it on your body.
First question I would ask if somebody showed me a tattoo of rodents anywhere on their body would be, "how Drunk/high were you when you got that."

My tattoo idea is such a winner. Theres nothing like reminding someone they are a sinner when they are doing the dirty deed.

I'm not just getting it because they're my pets. I'm not getting a tattoo of my ferrets, my bearded dragon, my dogs, or my cat. I'm getting the rats because they are what made me change my mind. You know the old saying of "don't forget the ones that helped you along the way"? It's like that. It's like how people get military symbols tattooed on them. Things that are meaningful to you or have changed you, you tend not to forget. This is what the tattoo means to me. At least I'm not getting a tribal tattoo on my bicep or a demon on my leg, both of which might look cool but have absolutely no meaning to me.

As for them just being rodents, they are just rodents. Rodents are underappreciated.

haha me saying that was not a comment on your tattoo. I like the design and I wanna see it when you put pics up of it. I didn't get to work on the design tonight as I am pretty worn out from work this week.

I think my girlfriend has an idea on mixing them together. We gotta work on it tomorrow night or this weekend since I plan on getting it Tuesday. My brother's getting the finishing touches on his done this Tuesday and I really like the place he's getting it done and the work this guy does. Apparently Aysees gets her tattoos from the same place and she likes his work too. I'm pretty excited, I've been thinking this up for 6 months and havent found any decent pictures. All you can find for rat tattoos or ideas are of rats that are gross and attacking something or standing on a skull. Anyone know of Rat Fink? People actually get that stuff tattooed on them. Pretty dumb if you ask me.

See, tattoos like this I can appreciate. I always ask people about their tattoos. If they say something along the lines of..."I thought it was cool/cute/pretty" that they picked out of a book, I'm a bit disgusted.

Something you're going to have with you for the rest of your life should have meaning, and it shouldn't matter whether or not everyone else "gets it" as its your skin.

So, self-designed meaningful tattoos hold a deep appreciation from me, just for the love of god don't pick one off a board or book!

I would think it would tickle more than hurt.

I got one on the top of my foot...now THAT really really really hurt.

I initially wanted it on my arch, but my tattoo guy told me it would wear off in time and didn't recommend it. :shrug:

I was told getting a tattoo on areas like the palms of hands and soles of feet was pointless because that area of skin moves and comes in contact with hard surfaces so often it would just turn into a big mess of blah, that the image would get all smudged up.

Considering the fact that most military guys I know have such thick skin on the bottoms of their feet from humping so many miles they probably wouldn't feel shit. Same with me, bottoms of me feet are like leather. I walk through gravel barefoot and it doesn't even phase me.
