"I will make sure the U.S. is the Crypto Capital of the World," Trump declared on his Truth Social network on Sunday in announcing the reserve, which would involve the federal government stockpiling five tokens: two well-established ones (Bitcoin and ether) and three newer and more thinly traded ones (XRP, solana and cardano).

World Liberty Financial (WLF), a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform tied to U.S. President Donald Trump, made waves on Jan. 20 by purchasing over $100 million worth of cryptocurrency. Data from Arkham Intelligence revealed that WLF’s wallet executed large-scale transactions within just four hours, including $46.8 million in Ether and $46.7 million in wrapped Bitcoin, with individual purchases often exceeding $4 million.

Trump's Crypto Project Appears to Have Bought Ether After Tariff Meltdown

World Liberty Financial, the decentralized-finance project linked to Donald Trump’s family, appears to have added tens of million of dollars worth of the Ether cryptocurrency after crypto markets crashed during the weekend as the US president briefly imposed tariffs on Mexico and Canada.

When Trump called off the tariffs, crypto prices jumped. At the time, I could see no rhyme or reason for Trump's behavior. After reading the above, I am less confused.

Issue 78 – President on brink of bailout for bitcoin
Trump tries to breathe life back into the crypto markets’ “Trump pump” while federal regulatory agencies wash their hands of any crypto industry oversight

The crypto industry has gotten everything it could have dreamed of in the US after the elections, and yet the market has taken a dramatic turn for the worse. Bitcoin prices have been tanking, dropping more than 25% since the previous all-time high price, which was set on January 20. A 12% tumble last week became the new largest three-day drop since FTX exploded in November 2022.1 Although Trump has been hailed by the crypto industry as their knight in shining armor, and although he quickly got to work fulfilling the industry wishlist, prices have been on the decline since he took office.

Seeming to respond to the panicked pleas from the cryptocurrency industry, Trump rescued bitcoin from its below-$80,000 slide in a Sunday Truth Social post reiterating his plans for a “U.S. Crypto Reserve”, which he added would contain “XRP [Ripple], SOL [Solana], and ADA [Cardano]”. Further panic [I74, 75] from bitcoin maximalists likely prompted his quick addendum two hours later that “And, obviously, BTC and ETH, as other valuable Cryptocurrencies, will be the heart of the Reserve. I also love Bitcoin and Ethereum!” Nice save.4

Trump is using his office to manipulate the crypto market for the benefit of his family members. It makes you wonder what crypto prices would be without this market manipulation. Trump can only cry wolf so many times.

Speaking to Ksenija Pavlovic McAteer of The Pavlovic Today ahead of the first-ever White House crypto summit on Friday, Lutnik said Trump—who has increasingly aligned himself with the digital asset industry—will outline his vision for Bitcoin and broader cryptocurrency regulation.

“The President definitely thinks that there’s a Bitcoin strategic reserve,” Secretary Lutnick told The Pavlovic Today on Tuesday evening. “Now, there will be the question of, how do we handle the other cryptocurrencies? And I think the model is going to be announced on Friday when we do that.”

The government operates at a deficit, meaning every additional dollar we spend or invest is borrowed. Is it a good idea to borrow money to invest in crypto? If the government has extra money, it should go toward paying down debt, not propping up Trump's family businesses.

Look up retard, retarded, tard, -tard, r-word, or r-slur in Wiktionary, the free dictionary.
In typical usage, retard is a pejorative term either for someone with an actual mental disability, or for someone who is considered stupid, slow to understand, or ineffective in some way as a comparison to stereotypical traits perceived in those with mental disabilities.[1] The adjective retarded is used in the same way, for something very foolish or stupid.[2][3] The word is sometimes censored and referred to as the euphemistic "r‑word" or "r‑slur".[4]

Retard was previously used as a medical term. The verb "to retard" means 'to delay or hold back', and so "retard" became known as a medical term in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to describe children with intellectual disabilities, or retarded mental development.[5] For context, until the 1960s, the terms moron, idiot, cretin, and imbecile were all genuine, non-offensive terms used, including by psychiatrists, to refer to people with mental intellectual disabilities and low intelligence. These words were discontinued in that form when concerns arose that they had developed negative meanings, with "retard" and "retarded" replacing them.[6][7] After that, the terms "handicapped" (United States) and "disabled" (United Kingdom) replaced "retard" and "retarded". Disabled is now considered a more polite term than handicapped in the United States as well. This trend was dubbed a "euphemism treadmill" by Steven Pinker.[8]

Etymology
The word retard dates as far back as 1426. It stems from the Latin verb retardare, meaning 'to hinder' or 'make slow'. The English language, along with other European ones, adopted the word and used it as similar meaning, slow and delayed. In English, the word "to decelerate" would become a more common term than "to retard", while in others like French[9] or Catalan,[10] retard is still in common usage to mean 'delay' (tard).

Modern use
Retard has transitioned from an impartial term to one that is negatively loaded. For this reason, the term is now widely considered as degrading even when used in its original context.[11]

Much like today's socially acceptable terms idiot and moron, which are also defined as some sort of mental disability, when the term retard is being used in its pejorative form, it is usually not being directed at people with mental disabilities. Instead, people use the term when teasing their friends or as a general insult.[12]

Legislation in the United States
Despite not typically being used in official context, "mental retardation" was still written in many of the United States' laws and documents until October 5, 2010, when U.S. President Barack Obama signed into effect S. 2781, also known as Rosa's Law.[13] The bill changed references in federal law; the term mental retardation was replaced by mental disability. Additionally, the phrase "mentally retarded individual" was replaced with "an individual with an intellectual disability".[14] Rosa's Law was named after Rosa Marcellino, a nine-year-old girl with Down syndrome. She worked with her parents to have the words "mentally retarded" officially removed from health and education code in Maryland, her home state.[15] With this new law, "mental retardation" and "mentally retarded" no longer exist in federal health or education and labor policy. The rights of individuals with disabilities would remain the same.[13] The goal of this change in phrasing was to remove language that may be considered derogatory to communities.

Back is that guy who buys the top of a big green candle and then sells for a loss after it dips 2 seconds later, then buys back in at the top of the bounce for an even bigger loss.

New York CNN — A businessman who pumped $75 million into the Trump family-backed crypto token finds himself in a fortunate position this week as federal securities regulators are hitting pause on their civil fraud case against him.

On Wednesday, lawyers for the Securities and Exchange Commission and Justin Sun, a 34-year-old Chinese crypto entrepreneur, asked a federal judge to put the agency’s case on hold, citing the interests of both sides and “the public’s interest.”

The pause is a 180 for the SEC, America’s top financial regulator, which two years ago charged Sun and his companies — Tron, BitTorrent and Rainberry — with selling unregistered securities and fraudulently manipulating the price of digital token Tronix. Sun and his companies sought to have the case dismissed.

Sun is a polarizing figure within the world of crypto, in which he has become one of the most prominent investors in the World Liberty Financial crypto project, backed by the Trump family. Sun’s $75 million purchase of World Liberty tokens, which he’s touted in social media posts, could set the Trump family up to eventually collect tens of millions of dollars, as the family is entitled to 75% of the tokens’ revenues, according to the company. Sun is also an official adviser to World Liberty, which lists President Donald Trump as its “chief crypto advocate” and his son Barron as its “DeFi visionary.”
