View Full Version : Script check

The sheer amount of mud, and the press of filthy swaying bodies, are what first clue you in that something isn't quite right. Looking around, you find that you're in a crowd of people, and it's suddenly both insanely hot and miserably humid. It's also loud. In front of you, somehow, there's a very un-Elanthian looking stage, which seems to have a bunch of angry young people on it, who are approximating singing, but barely. There's a lot of crowd noise, and someone throws a bottle of beer at the stage just as you see a large multicolored plastic beach ball bounce across your line of sight. Judging from the reek of alcohol and body sweat, and the very guitar-focused (quote unquote) music, you seem to have found yourself at Lollapalooza, and... not during one of the good years. If you want to escape this early 2000s nightmare of bands that are not as good as Nirvana was on their worst day, you should T3LL mE wh at color your pick is.

Very close that time. Please make sure your are attentive at all times on all characters that are making gains. Have a nice day!

Not trying to be rude here, I like the creativity of the script check, but at first when I was reading it I thought it just might be one of those random flavor texts that go off sometimes, but then I happened to catch the word "Lollapalooza" and I was like "Okay that doesn't sound very in game." So I started to read the entire paragraph within 5 seconds of first noticing it and by the time I got to the actual script check part I was confused to what it was even referring to because when I saw "pick" I thought lockpick, but this character isn't a rogue, so then I thought "Oh his skinning weapon", which I wasn't holding by the time I finished reading the whole paragraph so I had to look for it, and by the time I found it I finally answered what color the pick was. Even then with all of this I answered the script check within a minute, 90 seconds tops. I'm not sure how fast we are expected to answer these script checks but 90 seconds doesn't seem very long at all.

I posted all of the above to Discord as well.

I mean sheesh, I don't think 90 seconds is very long all things considered. I wonder just how fast they expect us to answer these script checks?

And a GM removed the post on Discord. I don't see why to be honest.

Was it in monsterbold?

And also, they should let you reply in any gibberish. If a script is smart enough to notice that and respond, just let it go, it is more attentive than most players that are at their keyboard.

Perhaps you could set up a button / macro that pauses all your scripts on all your characters. The idea is to hit it at the first sign of anything suspicious that you need to read or respond to. To buy time you could then say something that works in any context e.g. "Huh. One sec."

And then take the time to read and properly respond.

"Blue, wait no, yellooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow!"

Honestly, not that I scripted at all when I played, but if I saw that wall of text utterly OOC I wouldn't even know what to do.

And everyone knows the real Lollapalooza died in the late 90's.

I mean, it’s not really fair to compare bands to Nirvana as they are a once in a generation musical masterpiece & influence to culture.

The 2003 Lollapalooza lineup was quite good with its headliners: Jane’s Addition, Audioslave, Incubus, Queens of the Stone Age, A Perfect Circle, and more.

Whoever wrote this script check was/is stuck in the grunge era and obviously wasn’t getting any nookie in the early 2000s.

Last Lollapalooza I went to was the fated 1996 show. Saw the Ramones live in what would be one of their last shows, as their final show was less than 3 weeks later.

Word and glad you got to see them.

I turned 13 in ‘96 and was a suburban white kid wannabe gangsta that believed 2Pac faked his own death. My musical journey into rock music had not even started.

Yeah, I was 16, and even though I had been to quite a few concerts already, that was a cherry-popping moment for me. This script check has definitely cut into my productivity this morning!

No monsterbold.

I did say at one point "Hold on a second, let me check." or something like that just to let the GM know I was there and looking for an answer.

Yup yup, I have a macro that stops all active scripts on my characters and runs them to a safe room.

I got the same check yesterday asking about the color of my trousers. I just did a quick 'Tap trou" to get an answer but in hindsight I wish I took them off, yelled none, and ran away...

Only script check I ever got was some little boy started following me around, pestering me and then asked if he could borrow my weapon for something. I kept telling him to go away and also said no, but because I didn't use ANSWER to respond I failed the script check. When GMs do stupid shit like this, they fucking suck.

They should sell a "get out of a script check free card" in the simu store that you can buy for $20 and makes you exempt from script checks for 30 days.

They would charge a lot more than $20 for such an amazing feature.

That's the thing...they don't want you to. They hope you don't notice it in the scroll so they can have their gotcha moment.

Is Itzel still around? That's who I always think of when I think of retarded obsession script checks just based on various posts on here over the years.

Do they still not do anything other than throw some weird messaging into the middle of screen scroll? Seems like it should have something included to make sure their dumb messaging doesn't get lost in the scroll like forced RT and/or monsterbold or something.

I'm curious why they removed it from Discord though. I mean I'm sure almost anyone can guess why, but still. What a bunch of fucking losers

Itzel's shit was retarded because she didn't know how forging worked I guess. She counted unprompted forging messages as script inputs, so she would bust people who weren't even using scripts sometimes. Then when Wyrom clarified the policy for that she then started hiding tiny messages in the scroll.

Yes, but I've seen plenty of posts from after that where Itzel decided to keep being retarded anyway.

Roundtime: 30 sec.

YOUR SURROUNDINGS GET UNPLEASANTLY HOT AND BECOME OVERCAST IN AN ORANGE GLOW. AT FIRST IT LOOKS PRETTY, BUT THEN YOU REALIZE EVERYTHING AROUND YOU IS ON FIRE. ACTUALLY, YOU ARE ALSO ON FIRE. YOU VAGUELY RECALL LEARNING THAT IN THIS VERY SITUATION, YOU SHOULD STOP, DROP, AND ROLL. HOWEVER, THE GROUND IS ALSO ON FIRE SO YOU DOUBT THAT WILL HELP. AS SUCH, YOU NEED TO ********SCREAM THREE TIMES******** IMMEDIATELY.
>

>You scream!
>You scream!
>You scream!

Just kidding. You're not on fire. What an imagination you have!

You take a deep breath, and look around with renewed vigor. It is good to be alive, and an adventurer in this land.

First check I've had in 5 years. They're going around apparently.

It happened again. I posted this on the official Discord, let's see if it gets removed again:

It's that time again.

Yo, you focused on the screen or you driftin' in the haze? Are you tappin' with intention or just scrollin' through the daze? Is your mind in the moment or you slippin' off track? Check your posture, check your flow, is your focus comin' back? Are you dialed in, ready to hit the next key, Or you lost in the blur of what you could be? Come on, let me know, you with it or you slackin'? Are you present at the board, or is your attention lackin'? Give this little attempt at determining the status of your heedfulness a score from 1 to 10, with 1 being 'This person should take up a professional career in rap' and 10 being '...ew brother ew, what's that brother, brother no...'

You feel yourself being pulled away...

You ask, "Um, 10?"

The voice of NAME says, "You have to be attentive during the hunt, not just when you script back to town."
The voice of NAME says, "On all of them."
You say, "I was attentive."
You say, "I was reading that long paragraph."
The voice of NAME says, "And that's why I only moved you up here to be sure."
The world grows blurry and indistinct. After a moment everything becomes clear again. Looking about, you see...

I checked my logs, this entire interaction, from the first script check to me being spit back out of the lounge, was less than 2 minutes. Is that where script checks are now? A long paragraph is thrown at you and you have less than 2 minutes to respond or risk getting into trouble? I admit I'm not the fastest reader in the world, but once again this was a situation where at first I wasn't sure if it was just another new game flavor message (I saw words like haze and focus and figured that was IC enough, but then I saw score of 1 to 10 and thought it might be a script check.) So I started to read the entire paragraph and the actual script check wasn't until the very end, and I was still slightly confused as to what was going on.

Yes when I realized what was happening I had all of my characters go back to a table so I could focus on the script check, I do this whenever I need to focus on something such as this because I know they are safe at a table and my characters won't get killed while I'm trying to deal with something. Is this another aspect of script checks now? I can't stop my hunt to deal with the script check or else that in itself looks suspicious?

You better - lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go (go)
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow

You never expected to see him here, in this little roadside diner with its flickering neon sign and the scent of coffee hanging thick in the air. But when the door swings open and that unmistakable figure strides in -- jet-black hair perfectly slicked, a deep blue shirt catching the dim light -- you know without a doubt. It's Elvis Presley. Your heart stumbles as he flashes a grin at the waitress, orders a bowl of banana pudding, then turns and catches your stare. For a second, you think he might just nod and move on, but instead, he steps closer, one brow lifting. Mind if I sit here? he asks, his voice smooth, warm. Your throat goes dry, your mind blanks. Then you remember, Elvis is dead. If given a choice, which Elvis would you bring back to life -- young Elvis, or old sparkly jumpsuit Elvis?

[Fjallarhaart, Monument]
Rising high into the sky, carved cloak unfurled in the breeze, a great stone statue stands grim watch over the death and decay that has consumed the village. Chunks of its disembodied arms lay amidst the dry red embergrass and fresh-fallen snowbanks. Before the statue is the cool remnants of a bonfire, with shattered earthenware and spilled blood the only hints to the grotesque bacchanals that must have transpired in its warmth. You also see a tiny white puppy and a gold-tipped heavy spear.
Obvious paths: north, northeast, south
The stormwinds die down only to strike with renewed intensity a heartbeat later, screaming shrilly through the area!
A shiver rattles your knees as the crystalline cold settles deep into your bones.
... 6 points of damage!
Curls of cigar smoke linger about you in a sweet Gold Leaf tobacco smoke, whiskey-soaked peaches, wolfbane, and osmanthus over a base of wormwood and teak scented haze.

Literally just do what the message asks you to. ( I was hunting at the time with someone )

Umph. Umph. Umph. Feel that beat? The ground beneath your feet begins to rattle, and a heavy bass booming starts. Suddenly, the lights go out, and then flare back on again at the droooooooop! You find yourself surrounded by a raging party, circa 1992. Folks are dancing. Folks are drinking. Folks are clearly not in-character, and neither is this message. If you ever want to get out of this party, you ll need to WI nK That'll signal to the bouncer that you want out. Otherwise, you have to relive the late 90s again. Better W1n k!

You say, "No."
You wink.
You wink.

You wink. ( i know i was weak)
Yakushi just appeared.
You feel yourself being pulled away...
[Consultation Lounge]
The cozy surroundings of this simple conference room provide a much-welcomed respite from the chaos just outside its walls. You notice several plush chairs arranged casually around the room in a comfortable grouping.
Obvious exits: none

You wink.
The world grows blurry and indistinct. After a moment everything becomes clear again. Looking about, you see...( she had to let me out because i sneak 4x wink in before she pull me to lounge)
report could i at least get a name ? is that a joke
You roll your eyes.

I think it is dumb they want you to do what they tell you. If you are answering and obviously there, that should be enough. Of course, it was fucking Itzel.

These script checks always make me nervous too because each GM handles them differently.

One time I had a script check that was some sort of math problem. I didn't read it correctly at first and was very confused so I said something like "Is this some sort of trick question?" To which the GM replied with "No, now stop stalling and answer the question." I reread the question and answered it correctly.

But it's the fact that rather than the GM thinking I was perhaps confused with what they wanted me to say and understanding and being like "Nevermind, you're obviously there. Have a good one!" the GM instead implied I was somehow scripting that response to stall for time or some dumb shit.

That's why now I'm nervous to say anything other than answering the script check because now I'm thinking the GM might get a huge chip on their shoulder and use the fact that I replied without answering the check first as proof that I am in fact afk, just like this GM apparently got pissy because I stopped hunting to answer the script check.

Script checks I saw done during my little GM time were always very obvious and had very easy answers. She would spam in all caps RESPOND IF YOU ARE AT YOUR KEYBOARD immediately after actions.

Literal harassment.

What other companies would harass one of their best customers like this? I don't get it.

I'm not saying they should give you special attention, just treat you like a customer that pays them each and every month.

Especially since this is a non-competitive PvE game where it really shouldn't fucking matter if someone's scripting.

On one hand I get them not wanting Prime to end up like Shattered, but at the same time, GMs like Itzel literally get off on this shit and will try to pull any sort of gotcha they can to "catch" someone because being a GM in a 30 year old text game is the only "authority" they've ever had after getting stuffed into their locker for 4 years during high school or some shit. Probably.

Passing a script check should make players immune from further script checks for at least X amount of time. Otherwise you get situations like this where players are literally getting harassed 2 seconds after they log in or whatever because some loser like Itzel is mentally ill and has a boner for certain players she doesn't like personally.

TLDR: Itzel has hall monitor syndrome.

I just got a reply from feedback. don't write feedback because the person told me they don't even play the game or know how it works. So they probably new and just listens to what other GMs tell them. they don't understand the policy and the policy itself isn't clear. that was why itzel was removing my assist and telling me feedback was the only course of action. now she is also telling/instructing hosts not to give referrals to the other two parties because I had already wrote feedback about the situation. they have banned me from discord and deleted my posts asking for the case to be investigated or for other sgm to hear the case. the other gms might want to support their coworker, or just afraid to speak up and some might just want plausible deniability

Itzel has an ax to grind against tgo01 and uses her position in a 30 year old text base roleplaying game to wield it.

She's the worst sort of GM to have in any game because she doesn't treat customers the same way.

Her job should be replaced with an AI bot.

Sounds like it's time to hit up Stillfront directly tbh. I'm sure they have zero clue about Itzel and the huge liability she is for the game.

Sounds like Itzel is answering feedback and playing stupid. Minus the "playing" part.

That would be pretty hilarious actually.

Standard tactics to silence the enemy, isolate them from society, instill fear in their peers. Who does stuff like that again? Oh right Demonazis.
