The crimson silk ribbon is about 251 inches long now, and you notice that some threads seem to be pulling loose in the faint shape of some letters.

You can barely make out a single letter, but note that more threads are pulling away next to the first few letters:

T H E F A S C I N A T I O N S H A L L B E C O M E

Anyone have any idea what this is? I've always wondered what it was.

It's part of an old story-line, Showal. I'll be damned if I can remember which one, though. :(

I just asked James (stun) and he said that the IG reason is for some kobold or something however the OOC reason is because the original GM that handled the Landing did this ribbon as their first attempt at morphing objects. If you stand there long enough or keep checking back you should see it change colors, styles and sayings. Go figure!

Seems like I heard that Fawn was the originator of the ribbon. Possibly, she had something in mind that never materialized.

It was a big fat zero in the entire scheme of things. I think it was more in place for the GMs to laugh at the players who interacted with it, watched the letters get added and so on.... for some reason the word horrific stands in my mind, but that might not be due to the ribbon. I know that it was commonly thought that it would be a new area opening up for hunting, but that never occurred.

The kobold that someone mentioned might actually have been Spike the War Rat. a GM played NPC.

The storyline involved Spike. It finally ended in the Abandoned Inn, where a girl that appeared in the mirror said "The fascination shall become horror," turned into a huge undead thing, and it lead to a big invasion that lasted about thirty minutes.

Kind of anti-climactic, in the scheme of things.

Horror is correct

There is a lot of verbs to use for the ribbon.

Kiss being my favorite

I was told that the color of the ribbon would indicate certain tings depending on what color was shown, such as: imenent invasions for one color, good box/treasure if hunting if another color, etc.

I always placed ADDICTION on the last of it when I was looking at it.

(The facination shall be come addiction)...

It was one of those halloween plotlines, maybe it was those necklaces everyone got right after the switch to the internet after they ended their AOL and Prodigy contract.

In any case, it was around that time, and the letters started getting added to it. People were standing around watching the damned thing move, and playing with it and what not..

And someone came up with the theory that the necklace was cursed, if you pulled it or something, something really bad would happen. "The fascination (with those necklaces) shall become horror (to anyone who does something with the necklace to change it)"

It didn't end up being the necklace, but there was a lot of hooplah about the theory (conspiracy). As someone mentioned already, it ended in a short invasion. But just prior to the invasion I think I remember a bunch of roltons and trolls (normal trollfang variety) running loose between that gate and Voln and a lot of people panicking because they were waiting for the "big bad baddie" who'd kill anyone wearing color-changed necklaces.

It was fun for awhile.

The only thing I remember receiving when we moved to the web were spider charms or just spiders that has some scripts. Don't recall any necklaces.

Yeah that's what they were! I thought people wore them around their necks..or at least that's how I envisioned it at the time.
