View Full Version : Well that was weird...new type of script check?

I was only logged on for a couple of minutes when one of my characters was suddenly pulled into the consultation lounge. I quickly scrolled back to see if I had missed a script check but didn't see anything. Another character was there but no GM was there. A few seconds later the other character was ejected from the consultation lounge, after a couple of minutes my character was ejected from the consultation lounge too with no message from anyone.

I don't know if this was a bug or a mistake (the GM meant to pull someone else in?) or maybe if this is a new type of script check where they see how the person reacts to just suddenly being pulled into a different room.

I know that I've had a couple of friends get script checked within the first couple of minutes of logging in. Both were using ;go2 to get to a hunting ground and not even hunting. Word on the mean streets of Elanthia is that certain script checks are automated now, so maybe you got one that was automated and kinda broken?

K bye. Don't script. It's bad, mmmkay.

Yeah that's what really threw me off. I think I was logged on for a total of 5 minutes before this happened. So I either pissed off the wrong person in a hunting ground somehow and they reported me fast, or maybe the GMs have a way to automatically detect possible scripting going on and that triggered something.

If this was some sort of automatic check then perhaps it wasn't broken. I'm pretty sure the GMs can see what commands we enter into the game (or maybe not? I could be wrong) so maybe their automatic thingie was checking to see if I kept just issuing the same commands over and over again, not realizing I wasn't in my usual hunting ground. Which is kind of a silly check if true because it's pretty trivial to have the script check if you have moved rooms, in fact I'm pretty sure my script is already set up to do nothing if I'm no longer in the same room, not because of script checks, but just to ensure my character hasn't moved to a new room (feared, Rifted, etc) and doesn't start poaching.

Also looks like Wyrom posted an announcement yesterday regarding script and I'm too lazy to create another thread for it so I'm posting the interesting part here:

We usually check an account for 3 to 5 minutes, but some of that testing is done without direct messaging in game. If you're engaging in a behavior that doesn't really require much attention but still gaining something, the check can be pretty instant. Things like selling gems to turn in an Adv Guild task, you need to be able to respond to a check while selling, turning in the task, and resting for a small bit. Rubbing exp orbs is also the same thing, you need to be there when the exp is awarded and for a little bit of time afterwards. I realize this is subjective, and that's how each test can vary. Using scripts like a spellup or a heal script are fine as long as you're not botting.

Emphasis mine. So...now we need to pay attention AFTER we have turned off all of our scripts and our character is just sitting there doing nothing? The fuck is this?

I understand the idea is it would be difficult to script check someone who runs a script just to get a gem bounty, turn in said gem bounty, then the script shuts off, but surely there is a better approach than you have to pay attention to your screen "for a small bit" after you have already turned off your script.

Up next! You must have a webcam on at all times while playing so a GM can visually check to ensure you are at your computer.

I wonder how subjective "a small bit" will be...

GameMaster Coolguy says, "A small bit, you know, like 30 seconds or something."

vs.

GameMaster Neckbeard says, "I consider a small bit to be about 24 minutes. I checked you at 18 minutes and you were still not responsive while resting...BANNED!!!!!!1"

Yeah it's dumb. Making it subjective to a GM's whim is dumb. Everything is dumb!

Why not just give a specific amount of time? "You have to pay attention for 30 seconds after closing your script." Why is this so difficult?

"Oh no! Now they know how much time they have to pay attention for! Now we can't trick them! DARN!"
