View Full Version : Men, have you ever played a female character?
I know this has been discussed before, but not for a while. For myself, no.
Yes, and I hated it.
I’m not sure how women put up with the shit they get. Because I sure as hell wouldn’t.

After playing a female character I gained tremendous amounts of respect for their ability to put up with groping, idiot men.
Woe were the days when wearing a wedding ring didn't keep the bastards away.
Yeah I did.
I got so pissed off with the attention from guys.
The idiots that play GS are mainly guys who pray on chicks.
Anyhow, I'd gladly give up my main character for a female version. Guys fucking suck whether they're in game or out.

Heheh fucking word , Kainen.
It really opened my eyes to how many guys play females in game.
They can really fullfill their fantasies there.
You're a chick, right?

Yea, I played Shessan, a female rogue. My initial thought was that girls could get away with stealing alot more than guys..
While that might be the case, it certainly wasn't worth the headaches. I retired her after some idiot fell in love with her.
Made me laugh PB. That's exactly the same reason I couldn't play my char anymore.
Evarin is a star, by the way.
He was the only guy who had absolutely NO interest in her whatsoever. Except to murder her.
Fuck, that was pretty hot actually.

I never have and I never will! No fantasy I can possibly think of involves my role played out as a female... :penis:
I am so, so, so glad I rolled a halfling biznitch.
After the feature pavillion and age set, I've had zero problems.
Hitting on my Hafling-ho would be essentially be like trying to stick your wee-wee inside Kadesha and not barfing. So yeah, major deterrent and I'm thankful.
Never have nor will I.

I currently play all male characters, for the reason posted above. (And I am female)
It's nice to walk around and not have some half-wit follow me asking me if my character had panties on under my skirt, or "being in love" with them. The stalking factor is out of hand.
I thought for awhile that it was because I made my characters look like a normal woman. So I tried making buck-toothed bald women character's with big ears and a nose, and yanno what ... if you're female, you're game, ugly character or not.
I enjoy the lack of attention my character's get now, and I roleplay with who I choose, not the next idiot that comes along.

Is there a certain kind of character that guys go after? Is it just anyone that looks like a female? Are you more likely to hit on females who are scantifly dressed? I haven't had many over the top issues with being hit on, been asked if my characters were wearing panties or some of the other things that folks have said in this thread.... Maybe it's because I keep to myself or my younger ones don't really hang out in highly populated areas.
My wizard is more known to older folks (as in time playing) and gets flirted with by other long-term characters, but more in a subtle way. My other primary is married and has a little burning love for a certain rogue who's off in WoW.
I can often pick out a guy playing a girl by the way they dress. Sometimes even the most degenerate of women wouldn't put some of the things on the females that guys do.
[Edited on 6-5-2005 by TheRoseLady]
I can usually tell the men from the women by how they type. If someone is not capitalizing or using any punctuation properly, most likely they are a man. Though thats becoming less of a standard as the years roll by.

a female char was once 'flirting' with one of my other chars.. it was all part of RP, but it was funny to find out later, that this person also played a male char that i knew well (and was male IRL).
it mildly creeped me out, too.

I only had the being hit on problem once when I played a female character. It was at the boulder when I was on some guy's side and waited a few minutes before telling him he wants to have sex with a guy.

It's opposite for me. Prefer playing male characters to alleviate dealing with some of the shit female characters put up with. Either gender is fun to play though as long as you have some solid RP in mind.

As far as scantily clad goes, I can't say that any of my character's have ever worn clothing that indicated a lot of flesh showing. After the panties comment, all of my female character's converted to pant's/trousers/breeches.

This probably helps immensely.
I tend to get bored with one character, and create new ones constantly. Most if not all of my unpleasant encounter's have happened in level 1-10 hunting area's, so training and location DO factor in.

I don't get it. I'm female, I play primarily female characters, and I've never had any sort of problem with them being hit on. Maybe three people have ever expressed interest in any of them, and that was RPed, after a long period of IC friendship. I can vaguely recall a couple of idiots from the AOL peak days, but nothing from the last six or seven years.
No one ever asks me to cyber, so I don't get any chance to develop fun put-downs :-(. Must come from not having cascading tresses, perfectly smooth and creamy skin, long-lashed eyes, and manicured fingernails.

I have a few female characters, but they don't have any real problems with getting hit on. It happens occasionally, but depending on which character I'm playing, I just tell them to fuck off (in nicer words usually). I did have a psycho stalker for a while on my halfling character... I just made her disappear for a few months and that worked well enough.

It is sad how some females are fearful to role up a woman because of the harassment they receive. Perhaps this should be brought up on the official boards, if it hasn't already.
Have any of you thought of using Warn Interaction after you have clearly stated you have no interest in someone, yet they still harass you?
To answer this thread's original question, I have never played a female character. It scares me how many of the games females are actually males...and now from reading this thread, how many males are females.
If the problem of harassment were to magically "lessen" due to policy changes, would everyone be more inclined to actually roleplay the gender their player represents?
[Edited on 6-5-2005 by Fallen]
Jesus, another thing to gripe to the Official boards. Tell people "No thanks" and role-play, don't whine. I doubt the problem is NEARLLY as bad as anyone believes it is. There are no shortage of female characters.

For me, Fallen, it was about the challenge of playing a character of a gender other than my own. It was an enjoyable roleplaying experience.
Additionally, I never found it particularly difficult to deal with the idjits while playing my female characters. A choicely worded "Get lost" seemed to do the trick. Of course, that was a long time ago. I don't know what people are facing these days.

I am not willing to dismiss what the people in this thread have repeatedly stated as whining so easily. I have heard this comment from women countless times, and I don't like it. If players are hesitent to roleplay their gender due to harassment, there is a problem, and it should be dealt with in whatever manner possible.
You don't like it, fine. I don't like people trying to make Gemstone more and more carebear. Someone wants to role-play a pervert? By all means, just be ready to get your hands sliced off or your face melted. This is yet another reason why it bugs me to no fucking end that people run to the GMs so quickly. It is SO EASY to remove yourself from a situation or just react accordingly in a game like this that it just boggles the mind why people would call mommy and daddy.

If they play the role correctly, more power to them.

I'm a girl, of course, but I play male characters too. Honestly, I've gotten the whole stalker thing on my female characters a couple of times (and none of them have cascading hair or big sultry eyes or whatever!) but I've gotten it on my male characters too.
Some of the girls (maybe they were guys IRL?) have been utterly shameless when hitting on my male characters, my male Nalfein in particular. One time, he asked a girl to dance at a ball and she started whispering actions to me, like... Slutty Chick whispers, "Oh, you dance divinely!" As you dance, she parts her legs slightly until your knee slips between them, and she grinds her hips forward against your thigh. "I've never met a guy like you!"
So.. disgusting. And they'd just met too! When they stopped dancing, I was tempted to have him clean his pants leg with a table cloth but he's supposed to be gallant, so he let it slide to preserve her reputation. Damn horny sluts leavin' snail trails all over my poor guy.

It's kind of interesting how many females say they get unwanted attention, because I have the same feeling from the otherside. My character is only interested in human nobility (and that's mostly a cover for just not wanting an in-game relationship) and I'm often having to deal with annoying women who won't stop bugging him. It's not like he's some suave playboy either, he's more standoffish, but that doesn't seem to stop people.
Let's just leave it that there're unbearable sluts on both sides.

I have had several instances where my character has felt something towards another character, and later found it the character was played by a guy. I never acted on those feelings, but guys are guys, and will be attracted to what they believe are females.

Girls being guys is never a problem if you think with your mind and not with your pistol. Alternately, if they're bad roleplayers it is easy to tell.

My chicks have only ONCE been hit on by a stranger, and it was with Nalina when she first started picking in the east tower. She basically ended up telling him to get bent.
I think most people leave my girls alone because they a. know who the player is and are skeered of me, or b. aren't attracted to their look/attitude.

Nah. I roleplay religious fanatics for the most part. Sometimes it just makes more sense to the storyline for them to be male. I'm not sure it has much to do with anything else.
And its a roleplaying game. I'm not sure why it bothers you that men play women and vice versa. :?:

A few people I don't like so much here on the boards I made their characters on our WoW server. Partly to reserve the name so they couldn't get it - and partly because I wanted to try out other professions/classes. And I of course made them girls.
I am floored every time I play them. If I'm fighting and struggling against a mob - I constantly get help.
My male characters have no such luck.

I too am a woman who plays both sexes in GS. I have had hassles on both sides of the fence, but for the most part, nothing that couldn't be role played out, with two exceptions.
One was years ago, the fiance of my character became obsessed with her, in game and out. I had to have GM involvement, and threaten legal action outside the lands to make him stop, that was to say the least, scary.
The other was recently one of the male characters my husband and I both play. A very nice female was in hot pursuit of him, even as he held her at arms length. She was very nice about it all, never went more than flirting, but we did have to take her asside and explain we we're not interested for OOC reasons because she just didn't get it through RP.
So I guess there are no rules to it all, depends on who you happen to run across, choose to interact with, and how you RP.
Now if I get hit on, I have fun with it. Wheeeee! But I don't usually get the, 'do you have panties on?' bullshit. Then I may have to tear a few eyeballs out.

Some male characters have to deal with the psychos, sluts, and killers from the female end. You have to wonder how many of those females are really males in disguise.
Either way it's what you make of it.

I had a friend who used to play, he had a couple female characters. I went with his female elf to EN once, and gave him whispered advice on how to flirt on the carts with some guy that was there. He wanted to see if he could get some random guy's attention, just for kicks.
Took about 5 minutes before the guy was wrapped around his finger (and this was subtle flirting, not hitting on). My friend whispered to me "Damn, it's that easy?"

I'm a chick, so yeah, the thread isn't for my gender. However, I have male characters and chicks seem attracted to them. Guys too for some reason..:weird:
In Solhaven during the whole Griffin Sword Saga invasions I had my sorcerer out. This chick was all over his nuts and he kept flaming her. Even made Mekthros laugh. She kept comming at him though. I have to say, women are more weird and stalkerish than men from my experiences.
::shrugs:: I don't get many problems on my female characters. Random flirting is no big because they usually snuff it out from the beginning.
