I’ve been putting on some extra pounds of softness around my mid-section, and a couple weeks ago I made a conscious decision to do something about that. I’ve been working out with a friend that is a physical trainer. Last night we did this P90X type of workout. The last bit were these “man maker” exercises with 10 pound weights. 3 sets of those each to the point of failure. Fuck that shit. I can barely walk today and feel like I got hit by a truck.

How much longer until I look like Arnold in Terminator 1?

Your only hope is to die and be rebuilt as a robocop.

Honest answer, you will notice results in 3 months. Don't focus on the end, enjoy the process and the small victories.

Great job getting started, that's the hardest part.

Consistency is key with that kind of thing. Your best results will start showing up when you can say you haven't missed an intended workout day for a month or two.

Gahdamn those double cheeseburgers & Big Gulps of soda have done a number on me. I’ve been alternating days of light cardio with days of strength training. I’ve lost a little weight and down to 219. Trying to get to 200 and 15% body fat by my birthday in 7 weeks. That would be decent fighting shape. I’ve been freaking out about turning 40 this year. If I’m going to be old and have a midlife crisis, I prefer to be in the best shape of my life.

Also I’m taking natural testosterone booster (I think it’s ground up bull cock or something in those pills…don’t want to know but they sell them at Sam’s Club), multivitamin, amino acids, zinc, magnesium, fish oils, and creatine daily for supplements.

How does one acquire anabolic steroids and/or HgH? Do I ask my doctor or do you have to buy them from some Russian dude in a dark ally & hope for the best?

I did a LOT of stupid shit as a teenager. I always had this inclination I was going to die in my 20s like Kurt Cobain or Tupac. Now that I’ve made it this far, I kinda want to live long enough to meet my grandchildren.

Fish oil sucks, but does do the job of delivering Omega3s. Check out flax seed oil as an alternative. Does the same stuff but no fish burps, plus you can take it as a pill instead of fish oil or just cook with that shit.

Sams club has these aussie bite grain muffin things here, that have flax seed in em, among other things. Reasonably healthy snack.

Speaking of fish, try to get some Salmon in once in awhile.

Read up on natural bodybuliding dietary stuff, there's a ton of things you can eat to promote test.

Your timeline seems a tad aggressive. I'd advise adjusting mindset to making this more of a lifestyle change than a "do this for X days to drop X pounds" event, and you'll probably hit that 200 goal by Nov if you are in fact able to get in the cardio 3- 5 days a week, regardless of strength training.

Bro 1 year ago my wife was pregnant with twin boys. She looked like a beached whale. Since then, she lost A TON of weight. If she can do that, I can lose a measly 19 pounds in 7 weeks.

Seriously though, yeah I’m trying to make it lifestyle change. If I’m not quite there by that date I won’t get discouraged. Phase 2 though…go on a calorie surplus with mass gainer and go hard in the paint at the gym. I want to add 25 pounds of mostly more muscle, and then get shredded this Spring.

With my physical training buddy, yesterday we worked out upper body but also did some 100 yard sprints. I’m still fast as fuck, but my endurance isn’t there. On the last one once I finished I fell to the floor to catch my breath & recover. It felt like someone punched me really hard in the liver. My weight this morning was 218.5 pounds.

If your goal is to gain a lot of muscle, then I would not focus on cardio, but you will need to hit the gym hard and lift heavy, which is very good for you incidentally since it stimulates the body to produce all kinds of good things like testosterone. The risk at your age is injury, trust me on how I know this. So make sure you have a spotter or use a machine, not as good as free weights but a lot less prone to injury. I gave up on lifting heavy in my early 50's, now I just try and keep up with cardio so my brother does not lap me when we ride mountain bikes.

I’m in a precarious situation because I need to fix this dad bod and beer gut. I realize it’s not ideal to both lose fat and gain muscle at the same time, but that’s kinda sorta my approach until I get rid of these next 18 pounds. Hopefully I can at least keep the muscle mass I have while shredding that belly fat. Once I’m there, I’ll then do a clean bulk followed by a shred for next summer.

You play Flower by Moby. When it says up, you go up, when it says down you go halfway down. You never touch the ground. And do that until the song is done. It is an ass kicker.

214 now. 14 pounds left to go in 1 month. I may slightly miss that mark but I’m going to keep at it until I’m jacked at 200 pounds.

Also, how I feel the next day after a high intensity leg workout:

That sounds brutal. I used to play a drinking game with that song “Roxane, you don’t have to put on the red light”. Choose either Roxane or red light and take a swig every time they say it in the song. Whichever you choose, you’re getting fucked up.

It’s there when you are ready for it.

My motivation was the scale at my doctor reading 230 (with work clothes and shoes on). That is the highest I’ve ever been. Also my bloodwork coming back with cholesterol issues. I either make some changes with diet and exercise or I accept my fatness & take cholesterol medication. I’ve also got 8 month old twin boys. They need a strong father that is going to live long enough to see them become men. Guess it’s a combination of a lot of things really now that I think about it…

I’m tired of feeling hungry, sore, and tired all the time.

Eventually, most learn to enjoy the soreness, and being tired enough to fall right asleep when you want to does have it's benefits. It becomes a comfort more than an offense, which certainly helps take the edge off.

Eventually when you're no longer forcing yourself to eat a caloric deficit for goals, you also won't need to be hungry. But yeah, it does suck in the meantime. Try more fibrous fillers, and anytime you're hungry put water in your face. Both will help you to not feel as hungry.

Thanks. Good advice. Yeah I’m looking forward to a calorie maintenance phase once I hit my weight loss goal. I’m still going to continue healthy eating choices, but it will be nice to have larger portions & the occasional cheat meal.

Yesterday I did both yard work in the middle of the day (108 degrees here) and later worked out legs. This time we introduced more weight with squats, lunges, farmers walk, etc. I feel like Lieutenant Dan this morning.

Facts. Breakfast is super important.

I aim for 2000 calories a day in this fat loss diet. I put my maintenance calories somewhere north of 3,000. I don’t want to lose a bunch of muscle mass in the process even if it takes me longer. I’ve kinda hit a wall though and my weight loss is slowing down, so I’ll probably cut another 300 for these final 12 pounds.

I gained about 20 pounds since the start of Covid. My theory is my calories burned doing normal activity was reduced since we were forced to do less like physically going to work & such. I also developed bad eating habits. Instead of cooking healthy foods we did a lot of food delivery (Door Dash).

Also, I’m still on the imperial system and will never normalize the metric system. Fuck you world. This…is…MURICA!

I’ve hit a wall at 212 pounds.

I’ve been working out 4x a week. We get started around 7:45 PM after my infant boys are asleep and go until about 9:30 PM or so. We’re alternating upper body days A and lower body days B. We’re achieving progressive overload and training for hypertrophy. I’m roughly 6 weeks in. I’ve learned a lot. I’m making sure every rep is perfect form and the proper high intensity. I’m noticing mild visual changes in my body, but feel a lot stronger & in a better mood.

On my diet… I’m definitely getting fatigued. I’m only eating quality foods and getting my target of 200 grams of protein daily, but some days I’m not in a calorie deficit. 4x a week my dinners are chicken + green vegetables. The other 3 nights it’s a beef dish with at least one of those a steak. Breakfast I eat a protein bar on week days and I’ll do something like leftover steak / eggs / oatmeal on the weekends. I don’t take my lunch to work and that’s where I get in trouble. Usually I’m eating something like a Subway footlong or brown rice + protein from the local Chinese spot. At night before I go to bed I’ll eat healthy snacks like nuts or fruit (apples / berries / etc.) because I get hungry. Friday nights I cheat and get a double Whataburger with cheese. I only drink water, coffee, protein shakes, and my bcaa aminos.

Hopefully I’m both gaining muscle & losing fat, but the scale has been the same number for about a week now. My work pants do feel loose though, so that’s a good sign.

Edit: Daily nutrition supplements = men’s multivitamin, testosterone production booster, amino acids, magnesium, zinc, fish oil omega 3/6/9, 5mg creatine, bcaa powder mixed in water for workouts, protein shakes & Greek yougurt with protein to fill in gaps to reach daily 200 grams of protein.

May want to check your macros if you track your food and make sure you're not spiking your fat intake on accident. I've had days where I've been short on my calorie intake so I didn't think much about it. I look at the macros at the end of the night, and my fat intake was 12% higher than my goal. Fucking stupid food. Even good fats can backfire sometimes.

Yeah, I’ve been lax on tracking every detail of calories and macros (except protein which I just find myself doing naturally). I guess I just need to be more serious about it. Pretty sure the biggest culprit is the late night snacking before bed. Fruits, nuts, salami, etc. add up. I just find myself getting really hungry just before bed and can’t sleep on an empty stomach.

Edit: Also for the last couple weeks, I’ve been having intense cravings for CiCi’s all you can eat pizza buffet. I don’t really know why as it’s not that good, but damn does that sound like paradise to me right now. I’d orally fuck hard some cheesy bread, alfredo pizza, and cinnamon rolls…

210 pounds this morning!

Significant development: We (wife and I) booked a trip to Vegas and will be there in 2 weeks. Getting white-girl level blackout drunk & high on the strip seems like an appropriate way to celebrate my 40th birthday. Vegas is going to set me back a little on my fitness journey as I’ll be gorging myself with buffets, fancy steak dinners, gummies, and lots of alcohol. Do I just stop eating all together until then so I look shredded for those pool photos?

Hell yeah! I’m doing farmer’s walk too with laps around my pool (has steps in 2 places) and up to now 60 pound on the dumbbells (so 63 each with the bar and hex nuts). Also been working with 8 pound ankle weights. It does fucking suck & my grip is what gives out at failure. It makes me sore all over but I feel like those work my hands more than anything.

I’ve been strictly adhering to my training regiment, but less so on my diet. I’m still eating healthy foods and reaching my protein macros, but increased my carbs & calories. Being in a calorie deficit with few carbs was making my workouts suck. I’d also be tired all day and have trouble focusing at work. I’m at 210 pounds (still down roughly 20 pounds from where I started) but have noticeably gained muscle and lost fat.

Up until this point I’ve been doing backyard prison style workouts with dumbbells, barbell, a simple weight bench, resistance bands, etc. I just signed up at LA Fitness where my buddy is a member and going for the second time tonight. The machines are a nice modern convenience and access to all their equipment should help us get further. Tonight is leg day…ughh…

My new modified goal is to keep main-gaining for several weeks until I plateau. This fall & winter I’ll do a clean bulk cycle followed by a cut starting in February. I don’t have yet any plans for Spring Break in 2024, but I want to look like a Greek god whenever I go to that foam party that I missed out on in my 20s.

This time I’m going solo with a good music playlist. Today I started watching my calories & I’m back on a high protein diet. I worked out, and it sucked. After 3 sets of 7 man-makers with 25 pound dumbbells, I feel the weakness leaving my body (aka pain). Holidays are a rough time to go back on a diet. I must remain vigilant and not gorge myself this week.

Listen ya little shit. I wouldn't touch your mom with a fuckin christmas tree poll, which your dad could never afford. I would, however, shove it so far up her ass her grandkids, you little puky bratty children, would feel it in their rectum decades letter when banana fudge T man fucks your daughter's sister in the cunt and loads her anus with a fiery squad of jizz.
