Hi everyone!
I am returning after a few years. I don't know where to post this (if you have a suggestion please let me know).
I am not understanding the ship combat. I load and fire the cannons and I repair the sloot.
I also die every time!
Should I be sailing while doing the above or should I have the sails down?
Also how do I see what direction the enemy ship is?
Do I sail toward the ship?

Either I am really tired or just plain not smart enough to figure this out. (I think the latter is correct).

Thank you for any and all help/suggestions!

So having two people is very helpful. These are the things I have learned with both of my boats.

Upgrade the sails, the hull, and the cargo hold, don't worry about the cannons, they are a waste of money. Get yourself a courier bird so you can get task and turn in task at sea.

Completely lower your sails when you set sail and leave them that way, I was confused by this at first, I thought we needed to raise sails but all the boats are square riggers so now it makes sense. When you first see a ship there is no direction just turn wheel ship and if you have someone that can cast call wind or breeze, cast that at the sails, it will decrease the amount of time it takes to close the other boat. If you do not have someone that can cast it, it is not a big deal, just repair your boat as you close on the other one, although if the hull is upgraded you should not even need to do that. Finally, when they throw over the grappling hooks, immediately push gangplank and go gangplank and go over to their boat or the arrow volleys never stop.

You should be focused on keeping the boat repaired more than firing the cannons. As far as the cannons go, the only thing I use them for is gaining reputation and notoriety. Otherwise they are a paperweight.

These things should make it a whole lot easier for you. It is rare that I die now on a boat, luck being what it is and all it does occasionally happen. And when I go out, I normally do not even bother leaving the room that the port is in, that way it is enough to turn wheel port and be safe.

There are a number of scripts for OSA stuff, they are all discussed somewhere here in the boards.

Ok thanks. So basically:
Get on the ship
Lower sail
Depart
Wait for enemy ship to get close
When they throw their grappling hooks push the gangplank then go gangplank
Kill the mobs
When finished killing them off, raze the enemy ship then turn wheel port to dock

Question:
When I board the enemy ship do I need to fight the mobs then go on my ship to repair?

Thanks!

I think I got it. I just need to find the scripts. Thanks!

Your boat will not sustain damage while you are on the pirate boat, unless you leave people on your boat, maybe, I have never done that so not sure but I doubt it since all that you get on your boat when along side the pirate is arrow volleys which do not damage your boat.

After you beat the captain, raze the pirate boat and return to yours you will have time to repair your boat before the next one shows up.

Thanks for your advice. This is EXACTLY what I needed to get my sailing days started!
