Yeah that is obnoxious ... I've been in a few fights with critters where I've needed to use a blue crystal to kill them quickly or stun them enough so I can get away before dying. I havent had to do this for a while, but if I had to come out of hiding to do this, well ... I'd probably just die.

I assume these changes were made with CvC in mind but they just made it easier for high level characters to impose their will on lower level ones. My guess is that this will do nothing to actually lower the level of fights.

Yep, fucking retarded. So no more blue crystals, but I haven't tried rubbing my quake amulet from hiding yet. That used to keep you hidden too. Quake, blue crystal, signs, dead.
