View Full Version : Oil-For-Food: Senate Report Released
CNN article (http://edition.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/05/17/oil.food/)
British MP Galloway is already here in DC ripping the committee a new one. All accused have denied any wrong doing. Turns out that 3/4 of the oil from the program wound up in the US.
Not quite sure how the US can call for Kofi Anan’s resignation when it benefitted the US the most.
Before the usual bullshit conspiracy retorts...
"It seems clear [that] under Saddam oil-for-food became oil-for-influence," said Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, who chairs the committee.
Republican from Texas. It gets no better.
This ought to be an interesting story. Republican from Texas eh? Well, you gotta respect where he's coming from... but nobody said we're perfect.
I didn't want to start another political thread just for this, but the MP3 will apply dutifully to this one.
British Parliament member George Galloway ripping into the US Senate:

Galloway is one of my heros! Kicked out of labour for basically being too left wing, then he gets big time revenge by winning the vote in his area and taking out a labour MP. Yay for the best socialist in parliament! <3

No different to me than seeing a Democrat from Mass.

 Indeed.
It looks like America was the chief recipient of the oil, under the oil for food program. If corruption is involved obviously some Americans aren't going to come up smelling too rosey.
Transcript (http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0517-35.htm) of Galloway’s opening statement.

HAHAHA Pwned. He did this last year to a paper who claimed the same.
Video (http://news.bbc.co.uk/#) of full testimony before the Senate. Its crappy Window’s Media (mpg is so much nicer.)
Peam’s audio was great. That’s got to go down in history. But, while I think reading transcripts and listening are good ways to judge a situation, I also think body language adds a completely other dimension.
The above link was posted to allow people to make their own judgment of Mr. Galloway’s rebuttal to the Senate committee and their reaction to it. For myself, Galloway does sound like any other politician using semantics to promote or defend in a debate, but I will say the mans got fucking balls and its obvious if he did receive any money from the oil-for-food program that not only was he not aware of it, it comes nowhere near the amount given to US companies.
His point about the common theme amongst people on the list that the committee “filleted” down to him, the russian and the french guy, of which Anon is not included, is opposition to the war. Well, except Bayoil and the administration who knew about but profited from the most.
Galloway’s weakest argument was the if-you-do-it-I-can-do-it-too, but otherwise I was very impressed.
