House Republicans were set to vote Thursday on a bill to bar transgender women and girls from playing on athletic teams that correspond with their gender identity, a key campaign promise that Democrats denounced as cruel and discriminatory.
"For thousands of years in human history, we have recognized as a species that there are women and there are men who are obviously biologically different," the measure's chief sponsor, Rep. Greg Steube, R.-Fla., said during floor debate Wednesday. "Yet over the last several years there has been a perversion in our culture by the enemy, and the left completely embraced the lie to erase the lines of gender and to convince you ... gender is fluid and can be whatever you want."

It's becoming an issue in many sports. Recently, a man dressed as a women beat top ranked female players in a national chess championship. Congress needs to act to prevent something like that from happening in this country.
Stanley Omondi participated in the Kenya Open Chess Championship dressed as a female in a full niqab and made his way through the tournament until he competed against Gloria Jumba and Ampaira Shakira, according to news.au.com. Omondi was able to beat both Jumba, a former national champion, and Shakira, a top player from Uganda, which raised suspicions.

"One of the red flags we also noticed [was] the shoes, he was wearing more masculine shoes, than feminine," he added to BBC Sport. "We also noticed he was not talking, even when he came to collect his tag, he couldn't speak, ordinarily, when you are playing, you speak to your opponent... because playing a chess game is not war its friendship."
Officials reportedly were afraid to call out Omondi at first in fear of accusations of profiling, but when they did call him out, he came clean.
Omondi registered as Millicent Awour. He admitted to his transgression in a letter, saying he had "financial needs."

Why is it only a problem with a dude becomes a chick and plays sports and suddenly dominates.. but you never hear of a chick becoming a dude and dominating men at physical competitions?
Just keep ignoring the science and common sense.

The bill passed the House today, but just barely (https://clerk.house.gov/evs/2023/roll192.xml). If it passes the Senate and is signed by the President, it will prevent biological boys from competing in girls' chess tournaments, as I posted about earlier, as well as other sports. But it will not prohibit biological girls from competing in boys' chess tournaments and other sports.

Except that chess is not a sport. That’s a totally invalid & terrible example.
I suspect that you used chess because you are aware that does not require physical exertion, and you are also aware (but won’t state the obvious truth) there are differences in the sexes which give biological males a significant advantage over biological females in sports. This is something we as humans have understood for thousands of years.

Chess most certainly is a sport. Since you've said you play chess, you're an athlete!
The International Chess Federation (FIDE) is the governing body of the sport of chess, and it regulates all international chess competitions.

Disagree.
Words have definitions.
For example, men are adult males who were born with a cock.

I respectfully disagree, chess is indeed a sport, and by your definition, you can see the grey area involved.
A sport is a contested event, while physical exertion is needed by your definition, it comes by, how much physical exertion is required to be classified as a sport. That’s the problem.
Exertion is the physical or perceived use of energy.
Wouldn’t moving a chess piece be considered this? Lol

But seriously you lefties are killing me with your wishy-washy anybody can be anything / I can’t tell you the definition of a woman / Clinton “what is is?” logic. Chess is not a sport. The board game Monopoly is not a sport. Gemstone IV is not a sport. We don’t call people who play those games athletes just because they have to move a piece or type on a keyboard.
It’s a shame we need to even have this discussion. Honestly we shouldn’t have to legislate this kind of bullshit either, but you people (respectfully and sincerely) are fucking it up. It’s not sexist, or non-inclusive, or transphobic, or whatever other nonsense to say that a person born with a cock & balls shouldn’t be allowed to compete in sports leagues designed for people born with a pussy & tiddies for very obvious reasons.

The IOC has acknowledged it as such, and since they are the closest thing to an official global body for sport governance, their ruling is pretty clear.
Of course, "sport" means different things to different people. I did some research in the early 2000's in order to ascertain the support chess was getting from various National Olympic Committees post-recognition of chess as a sport by the IOC. The lessons were pretty interesting.
First of all, it is worth noting that chess is a medal sport at some NOC competitions such as the Asian Games. People have won medals in official IOC events for playing chess. (This had a tendency of shocking most people, by the way.)
Second, "Sport" clearly means different things to different cultures. In the native English-speaking countries (United States, Canada, United Kingdom) and other places like Scandinavia, "Sport" is taken by most people to refer to "Athletic Competition". As such, chess does not qualify by most people's definitions. In Russia, Chess most certainly was considered "спорт", which referred more to "Competition" in general, without concern for whether or not athletic prowess was part of the conversation. I found that in the rest of the world, "Sport" didn't have as strong an athletic overtone as it did to native English speakers.
I'd also like to pull up an Oxford English Dictionary definition for sport (#4), including the notes:
a. An activity involving physical exertion and skill, esp. (particularly in modern use) one regulated by set rules or customs in which an individual or team competes against another or others. Freq. in pl. In early use the sense of ‘sport’ as a diversion or amusement is paramount; by the 18th and 19th centuries the term was often used with reference to hunting, shooting, and fishing (see blood, field sports at the first element). The consolidation of organized sport (particularly football, rugby, cricket, and athletics) in the 19th cent. reinforced the notion of sport as physical competition (for contact, motor-, racket, spectator, team, water sport, etc., see the first element).
b. In pl. An occasion on which people compete in various athletic or other sporting activities. Cf. game n. 4b. In early use freq. referring to the ancient Olympic Games.
c. Participation in activities involving physical exertion and skill, (now) esp. competitive activities regulated by set rules or customs; such activities collectively.
As you can see, chess qualifies as a sport, most certainly under 4b and 4c as it is most certainly under "other sporting activities" and a "competitive activity regulated by set rules or customs". However, it most certainly does not qualify as a sport under 4a. I suspect the following passage gives you the clear clue:
"The consolidation of organized sport (particularly football, rugby,
cricket, and athletics) in the 19th cent. reinforced the notion of sport
as physical competition (for contact, motor-, racket, spectator, team,
water sport, etc., see the first element)."
So, it's a sport if you define sport as a "competitive activity regulated by set rules or customs", and it isn't if you define it as "an activity involving physical exertion and skill". The IOC, however, says it is a sport, so I'll use that as the tiebreaker for now.
(Stole this from a persons post, as I was too lazy to write this all out and this is pretty much what I agree with)
A sport is considered a competition of skills. Monopoly and gemstone are not a skill based game. It’s a luck based game. I think chess is the only sport/game where luck plays no role.
Regarding your other comment about gender, I don’t believe in this gender bullshit. You are a man or a woman, and nothing you can do will change that.

So Nascar isn't a sport? How about drone races, or RC car races? Robot boxing?
How about starcraft league competitions, or any other video game?
Shooting competitions?
Elimination ladders exist for all these things, prizes are awarded for who came out on top. Kinda seems like the same thing to me, who cares if it ruffles your feathers to see sport used to describe it.

Sorry maybe I should have defined it better. A competition based on skill, with a universally recognized governing body. Shooting yes, video games and board games have RNG, or heavily luck based, which takes away from the skill involved

The real question here, the legal question, is whether or not the bill passed by the House would prohibit transgender boys from competing in girls' chess competitions or any other sport where there is no biological advantage for boys. We already know that it would not prohibit transgender girls from competing in boys' sporting events, regardless of the nature of the event.

NASCAR is more than just a driver.
pit crews train as hard as any other athletes in any other sport. They must jack up half of their 3000+pound car, change four tires, add 20+ gallons of fuel to the fuel tank, and make no mistakes over the span of 15ish seconds.
Not to mention what the driver is put through, withstanding what 3G’s for 3ish hours? That takes both mental and physical strength.
I think extreme rollercoasters hit the same G force, but for like 2-3 seconds and still some people can’t handle it and throw up. Imagine experiencing that for 3 hours.
A spaceship has about the same about of Gs during take off.
You need to be in top physical condition to handle it.

They convince you that racism is worse now, than in the past.
They convince you that men are actually women.
They convince you you're crazy if you believe otherwise.
The morons outnumber the sane, and their insanity is amplified by the politicians and media solely for power.
The Democratic Party is doing a good job of reinstating segregation in our communities, and relegating women to positions of indifference. The only difference between now and 60+ years ago, is they figured out to use nice words to fool all of the morons.

No. It is sitting in a car and turning left. I don't consider myself an athlete for driving from California to Louisiana and back several times. I'm not in training for the big game when I drive to Krogers for groceries.
It isn't a sport.

Couple years ago I went on a guy’s trip to this place called Broken Bow, Oklahoma (rent a cabin and there is a nice lake out there). We all got piss drunk the first night. NASCAR, or NATIONAL Association of Stock Car Auto Racing, is headquartered in Florida and North Carolina. There have only been 11 drivers that were not US Citizens, 4 of them being Canadian.

I think Gelston's point is barrier to entry for being competitive in these sports.
Like you can't just pick up a gun and be competitive in shooting. Likewise I'm sure you can't just get into a car and start competing in NASCAR, but it's probably not as involved as learning to shoot or being competitive in biking.
But maybe I'm wrong and you need years of experience to drive a car around a course.

If you jumped in a NASCAR and competed in a race, the first thing you would say is, I’m about to get my ass kicked. You have negative chance to be competitive… but you’ve been driving all your life. The same could be said for any sport baseball, football, hockey etc etc. it’s a different world.
Driving a car competitively takes years and year and years of hard work, dedication and training, and much like other sports a life long journey to hone their skill.
Drafting, understanding your car’s dimensions, weight, performance and handling perfectly, changing gears perfectly, down shifting correctly, Perfect muscle memory, not to mention the mental and physical endurance to do it for 3 hours while continuing to be at top mental and physical ability to maintain your split second decision making etc... the smallest of mistakes can mean the difference between winning, losing or possible death…the same as shooting a gun. Anything in a competitive professional setting takes years and years of dedication. From throwing darts to playing chess.
Do you need to hit the weight room to drive a car? Nope, but the same could be said for a lot of sports.

Whether NASCAR is considered a sport is a topic of debate. Some people argue that it is a sport because it involves physical exertion and skill, with drivers experiencing high levels of G-forces during races and requiring a great deal of focus and strategic thinking. Others argue that NASCAR is not a sport because it primarily involves driving a car rather than engaging in physical activity, and does not require a high level of athleticism. Ultimately, whether or not NASCAR is considered a sport may come down to individual interpretation and personal opinion.

I’m no nutritionist, but I’m fairly certain I’d be unable to survive on 5600 calories a week / 800 calorie a day diet for any long period of time. Maybe you can survive that under the most ideal conditions like if you were 4’11”, weighed 85 pounds, and never removed your ass from the couch. Me at 6’3”, weighing 220, and living a fairly active lifestyle that would have me looking like a holocaust victim in just a few weeks.
I could, for a couple weeks but I have reserves, depending on activity level would depend on when I ran out. But yeah, a month or so would be real unhealthy, past that, possibly life threatening.

No you can survive on it, especially if all you do is play video games or something all day. I never said you’d live a productive life, but if you had no need to work, it is 100% doable. 10000 a week even more.
