So, you know, like, what exactly do they do?
And how do they do in a group setting? Can one person of the group use the loot boost and the loot is better no matter who kills/loots the critters as long as the boosted person helped? Or does the boosted person have to kill/loot the critter?
And does the loot cap affect loot boosts? So like if you're at the loot cap then using a boost is pointless?

The person who used the boost has to do the looting, and as far as I know they just speed up how quickly you reach the cap.

They used to be useful before the loot cap went in. Technically they're still useful in the sense that you'll just loot cap a tiny bit faster.
Loot boosts should be immune to pressure and loot cap status. But they're not, because Simu.

Major loot boosts seem to be box happy versus minor loot boosts. As someone who never comes close to loot cap I love them =)

Loot boosts are still quite useful for pay quests like Reim, Troubled Waters, and Night at the Academy. Those DO NOT count against your loot cap (or so they claim!) and thus you can maximize your $$$->Silver generation with loot boosts during those.
