That chadj thread was closed so fast I never got a chance to say Americans are War-raging-elitist-promkingangqueen-overweight-schoolshooting-busbombing-oppressing-shits.

Okay PB. Maybe Brits are Bitchy.

The thread was left open for far longer than it should have been. Everyone had the chance to have their say, it had degenerated into something pointless.

Heh! Thanks, I love you too.

And the countdown to this thread being pulled is quickly ticking down too.

I'd have locked the thread too but I need to open a few more strongboxes with my vaalin lockpick before I can acquire that special ability :(

I retract what I said anyway, please remove this thread.

Having spent time in both countries, I find each to have its own wonders, and its own shames. AFter all, both are populated by human beings, eh?

He put Americans down and that was his sole purpose. I guess you policy below in quotes is selective only.

"No matter whether it makes people irritable or not, threads made for the sole purpose of putting someone else down will be deleted. They will not be locked. They will be removed. " ~Harmnone.

For one thing, as Drayal later admitted, he was being facetious. For another, he did not put down a specific person, or attempt to harass a specific person. There is a difference.

I think he was being sarcastic.

HarmNone is right. I could make the same type of post about blacks, jews, or any other minority and if it had the same tone in it, the thread would stay. I've danced this line so many times that it makes my heard hurt.

Essentially correct, Arkans. As long as such a thread doesn't degenerate into the use of insulting terms for those who differ from your own nationality, creed, sexual orientation, etc., they can stand. They're watched closely, but allowed to continue as long as they remain reasonably civil.

05-14-2005, 02:47 PM
This is true, but the racial slurs (negative words) can be used if not used as an insult. For instance nigger (notice that there are no quotation marks, as people love to put around them) is fine right now, due to the fact that the tone is not insulting, but it would be ripped from the post or the post deleted entirely if I would to call someone that word.

It's less about the words and message, I noticed, and more about the context of the posts.

Right on target. Context is very important. We can discuss such words, and their useage, in a general context. What we cannot do is direct them at others in a personally instulting manner.

Please remove the word "case" from there.

PS: All Europeans think that Americans have an accent and British don't I mean seriously, WTF?!?!?!? What kind of accents do Americans have??

I rather enjoyed the signs on the roadways that read "Plant Crossing". I kept looking for giant, man-eating philodendrons, or something.

Another funny one was the tires hung on fenceposts someplace in Scotland that said "Caution! Lambs!" What are those lambs gonna do to me, anyhow? They got dangerous lambs in Scotland?

Several nights in my life it was the language barrier and the amusing effects thereof which kept my mind active during an overnight commute through the UK.

I had a similar experience in New Zealand. Saw a sign on the road that read "Seal Ends". I'm looking for seal tails, and find out they mean the pavement is ending and we're going to loose pebbles and dirt.
