I’m back living in the states, While my bank is here, my income still comes from abroad. Do I report my income as foreign income still? Place of living doesn’t matter, right?

There's a few ifs there, but you may be entitled to an exemption. Here's the link with info to decide if you qualify. Depends on time abroad, taxation status of the earning country and when you officially settled down here again.

I would probably just consult a tax expert...
I certainly wouldn't take tax advice from someone who claimed that people who are self employed pay nothing into SS/Medicare or even file tax returns.

That's cute and a blatant mis-characterization of a post linking to IRS data that more than 7 billion in payroll taxes alone are not properly paid. But who exactly would take you seriously when you believe anecdotally that because you pay self employment taxes, that everyone else does without fail. Even more embarrassing in light of the post showing over 400b in taxes owed to paid each year according to the IRS. So which do we believe more, IRS figures and publications, or a moronic MAGA-head like Parkbandit.

Unless you're an actual person that handles taxes and know the ins and outs, I'd say Parkbandit is correct, talk to a professional.
Just think if something happens and he gets audited and all Solkern can say is I got my advice on the PC from someone with the name Seran.....they're going to laugh at him. As much as you want to defend your position and everything you post, I wouldn't take any actual advice from you (let alone anyone) here on the PC.

Yes, the shit Seran posted has nothing to do with your situation.. Also, just go to HR block or some shit. They are cheap and you can blame them when they fuck up.
Hell, TurboTax can even handle your stuff, including live tax advice, for like $100.

Yeah thanks for that link, I don’t qualify anymore since I wasn’t abroad for 330 or more days.

Let's take a look at this "blatant mis-characterization"...
Now a significant number of Americans are self employed and not paying payroll taxes
That's literally what you posted... then you doubled down on your stupidity later on:
Shocker, self employed individuals aren't compliant with paying their taxes.
Like I said.. the VERY LAST person I would take tax advice from.. is Seran.
Subjects I would also not take Seran's advice when it came to:
Employment opportunities
Being successful
Mensa and you.
General hygiene.
Subjects I WOULD take Seran's advice on:
How to sit in your own shit and not care.
Taking advantage of your parents and still living at home in your 40's.
Scraping by on Welfare in 5 easy steps.
The Do's and Don'ts of dumpster diving.

Not at all surprised how solidly against research and self-enlightenment the far righters are, after all their political choices revolve subservience to the idea they're not good enough to think for themselves. A shame too, considering how expensive lawyers and accountants are, having a basic understanding of a topic before you seek expert help is in fact how you should approach any situation.

Solkern's question wouldn't require "lawyers and accountants".. and your "advice" was nothing more than a Google search that was wrong.

Amazing how you so strenuously disagree with people saying to go to professionals to help him as opposed to your random googled advice. You sound like an anti-vaxxer.

While I should go to a tax expert and I will. I don’t consider a direct link to the IRS, some random google search.

What tax software do you all use? Do you all file early or late?

TurboTax has worked pretty well for me over the last fifteen years, their long form program is pretty intuitive. If you buy the upgrade they have tax professionals you can get information from if something isn't making sense. Only issue I ever had a problem with was the depreciation recoupment when I sold a rental property. Usually wait to file February/March myself.

Cool bit of virtue signaling there, but a CPA isn't software. Learn to read.

No just ask Seran. What could go wrong?
I know when I need tax or legal or financial advice though, the first place I think to ask is also a 30 year old text game forum.

How is that virtue signaling exactly?
I don't do my own taxes, I use a CPA.
Learn just something today. I would suggest how to tie your own shoes but that's too advanced for you.

You're that guy who enters a conversation about everyone's favorite food and belligerently announce you like the color blue, then start headbutting people with your special helmet, right? Because you don't quite seem to understand how conversation works, maybe it's senility instead.

The subject was taxes. I told him what I used. I told him when I filed.
I'm sorry you didn't understand... but when you are a retard, you don't understand much of anything.
You should be quite used to not understanding anything by now.

The subject was what software everyone uses and whether they file early or late. I assume you're telling the truth about using a CPA, but I wouldn't put it past you to lie about using an accountant in order to seem special.

Oh, so that is what upset you so... that I use a CPA.
Sorry, unlike you, I don't need to lie about myself to pretend to be something I'm not on an unofficial forum for a 30 year old text based roleplaying game.
Go get a Kleenex and have yourself a good cry about it.
Fucking retard.

Thanks, I’ll check out TurboTax and a CPA. I have foreign property and investments, want to make sure i get it done correctly. My bank previously had an expert do all my taxes for me, first time in a long time I’m trying to do them myself.
Is there any benefits or drawbacks in turning them in early or late?

if you owe, file as late as possible without penalties or interest.
If you are getting a refund, file as early as possible so as to stop loaning the government money you could invest.

It can be confusing to keep track of taxes when your income comes from abroad. I'm also sorry to hear that you weren't satisfied with the response you got. It's really important to treat each other with respect, both in the forum and in life in general. It's ok to disagree with someone but we should always do so in a civil manner. I looked into your question and it appears that you do need to report your foreign income. The place of living doesn't matter in this case. You can also use a fake pay stub generator (https://www.thepaystubs.com/) for your paystubs to keep them all neat. I hope this helped and I wish you the best of luck with your taxes!
