It is an attention-getting device, and it's not a serious GS complaint when you start it yourself. If you think it is, my advice is to go pay a therapist, we're not here for your amusement.

Tamral's totally out for profiteering in any way that he can. He buys low and sells high. I totally don't hold this against him. About the only thing I could honestly say bad about him is that he's prone to some weird GM conspiracy theories upon occassion, and sometimes declares like these personal rebellions that remind me of the peasants in search for the Holy Grail. Apart from that, he really isn't that bad a guy. He's like everything some merchants should be, but aren't.
