Unfortunately, I believe this is true. I can only "hope" that something has happened and he is in the very difficult or bad position. To cash in his rep like this really sucks. And LNET shenanigans aside, he did have a stellar merchant rep. But it would appear he has done this to several people. I'll go ahead and come out and say that I am one of them too. I loaned him silver on the pretense of friendship. That silver is gone now! :P I know of several others who also fell victim to this.

Is this for real? His lnet trolling aside, he was always a top tier merchant. Did all this happen around the same time? Maybe he got hit by a bus or something.

Post 3260 of that page is the first time it was mentioned, by Rjex, that it could possibly be Zaoloo: "Isn't Guojimo or however you spell it Zaoloo's alt?"
The first 2 posts of page 327 are where Faulkil and Peam have a back and forth regarding this...
Faulkil, responding to Rjex: "Giujomo. And I have no idea."
Peam, responding to Rjex: "No, that's Ruol. Not Zaoloo."
I don't know if any additional info has come to light since then to indicate that this is or isn't Zaoloo, but I wanted to point out this back and forth, since it happened in August, and hadn't been mentioned yet in this most recent discussion.

Went dark on me August 8th. Borrowed a large sum in May. I wanted to have the benefit of the doubt here, that something went wrong or happened. But I am seeing repetitive behavior and we need to openly discuss this so that it doesn't continue. Eurial is a returning player who is putting money into our little community. That makes our game continue and flourish. I don't like anyone messing with that. I don't want this to happen to anyone else.

Guijomo/Giujomo were Zaoloo. People grabbed hold of the Ruol thing and ran with it and Zaoloo never tried to correct them about it. Zaoloo was always an honest merchant no matter what you think of his Lnet conduct. It's surprising if he went out scamming. Hopefully he surfaces at some point and is able to explain and make amends.

When exactly did this all happen, Eurial? Like recently or around the beginning of August?
If it was more recently we can probably go ahead and assume he's just openly screwing people over since someone claimed he borrowed over 200 million from them in May and stopped communicating with them on August 8th.
If this happened around the first week of August and Zaoloo has disappeared since then, then it's possible something happened to him in real life. Or it's possible he decided to quit GS and wanted to screw as many people as possible on his way out.
GS4Faulkil reported losing 80m to him in August, in the merchant thread, and I know there's at least 1 more case similar to Altheren above that wasn't posted about. People should really speak up if they got hit.

I know this is a bit tongue in cheek but this is it right here. There are some players that aren't scammers per se but their in-game conduct, demeanor, etc make me wary of dealing with them. There is a saying in some other hobbies I frequent and it applies here: "buy the seller, not the (item)"
Another point: I've aways been wary of dealing players who use gemstone as income as opposed to an expensive hobby. Again, this is a heuristic and doesn't capture everyone accurately, but it's a red flag to me.

I just don't mess with cash deals. I have done some capped character sales but always for IG currency. Would it be shitty to get scammed that route too, absolutely but I just don't trust my money that way. Unless maybe Roblar, he is as pure as Ken Griffey Jr during the great juice era. Different strokes. 99.999% of cash deals go just fine. I have more money than time, I'd prefer not to grind for anything just so I can enjoy the game as I want to.
Plus, when it comes to every dime I put into this game, I only put in money I can afford to lose. This includes if the game decides to go belly up tomorrow, not just potential scammers.

You're basically looking at small claims court if any money was actually exchanged. Then you have to convince a judge to make a decision on a "phantom" object that is actually owned by a third party.
I would wager most judges are going to consider this a stupid tax.

In all honesty, everyone that is buying and selling for real life cash should be considered sketchy. Everyone should know it's an "enter at your own risk" circumstance.
Gemstone is known to attract mentally unstable customers. You already have 3 red flags in this fiasco, the thief, the customer that says they will show up at your doorstep and the one that wants to drag a person into it because they once met the thief.

When entering into deals, ask these questions: is the person invested in and respectful of our community? Do they show concern for and are prudent custodians of their reputation in said community?
In this particular instance, the warning signs were always there. Again, there isn't a need for fear mongering, because 99.999% of transactions, cash or otherwise, end up just fine.
The age old maxims of commerce still apply:
- Deal with established people/characters with sterling reputations for civil conduct, and not just in transactions
- If it's too good to be true it probably is
- Don't commit anything you can't afford to lose
If you have their Discord it helps too. Its nice to have a look at them and see if they're registered on the GS server.
Also definitely think a go between intermediary whatever is a great idea for large purchases and take their fee as price of doing business.
And yeah mods left the forum a long time ago. I think Anticor was the last to go. Kranar lurks

Third party intermediaries don't protect against the most common type of GS4 scams and wouldn't have protected against the last two, which were post transaction scams. I think this is what Ardwen was getting at. It's a false sense of security.
Kibosen/Voidalyn was a buy side scam. The one here was a "(nominally) reliable guy gone bad" which has happened since the dawn of gemstone, a variant of the "i gave my buddy my password and he sold all my stuff" scam.

This was someone who, by his actions and conduct, told the community to f-off, I don't care what you think of me, and you all suck consistently throughout his playing career. He also consistently disregarded game rules and was banned on a fairly regular basis. This begs the question why he was permitted to remain as long has he did.

Yes a layer that's about a micron thick and provides zero protection against the most common type of gemstone scam and wouldn't have protected against this and the last most recent scam. Most of the risk in the transaction happens after the item and payment have already changed hands.
Buy the seller, not the item. If you really can't trust the other person to hand a thing over in game, you likely should not be dealing with them at all.

No one is going to get into that here. Suffice it to say, you had good transactions because 99.9% of people in game are honest and trustworthy and 99.9999% of transactions turn out perfectly fine, not because the payment standard we use is a good one.
Kibosen somehow managed to initiate paypal disputes on fnf transactions like a year after the fact, against 5 people. Paypal eventually told him to fuck off and afaik everyone got their money back. But I think it was largely a case of one vs many, and that's what made paypal question it, if it was a single transaction, the seller could've been screwed as paypal tends to side with the buyer. We all thought fnf was final, it's really not.

I think a third party could have prevented this scam. The problem with this scam is Zaoloo never delivered the bloodscrip so it's possible he didn't even have it. If the buyer could have seen that the bloodscrip was handed off to a third party they would at least known the bloodscrip existed and the seller gave it to a third party to hold.
True, the seller could then just claim they never received payment, but at least the item would be in the hands of a third party who could maybe look at emails and PayPal statements and communications and whatnot.
Although really a third party would just benefit the buyer, the seller isn't really protected by a third party.
A third party should eliminate seller scams (well except if they lie about an item's stats, unless the third party actually verifies those stats), but buyer scams via charge backs could still exist, but at least then they would have to go through PayPal or whatnot who would be the final arbiter.
In my third party script idea I'm going to introduce stats such as how often a person has sold something successfully, how many times someone has bought something successfully, and how many disputes the person has been in and been ruled against. Not perfect, but it might put someone at ease if they see a person has done 100 transactions with no problems though.
But as you said, most transactions go through just fine so I'm not sure how often this service would be used, but gonna try anyways to see.

Virtual items, when it comes to gaming, are normally not legally owned by the seller. If anything, Paypal would ban the sale of virtual items.

Agree. And one will have to reflect on which of two types of people would be more likely to do this on their way out:
1) someone who comported him/herself with respect for others and the game;
2) someone who consistently acted with disrespect for others and the game, engaged in vile public fights on a near daily basis, had already been ignored by large swaths of the population, and had nothing really to lose by giving everyone a final FU

Paypal told me you can't directly under normal circumstances, they won't side either party with friends and family, Kibosen made multiple charge backs with his bank/cc provider. that's why I think most people, myself being one assumed ftf was a safer way of trading that way. I'd say use zelle or something, but that's a lot more personal
Paypal can't ban the sell of virtual items, cause that's virtually impossible when those transfers go through. What are they gonna make you do... ask if you sold your chevy that you drove 10 years ago.. or sold a character on gemstone.
if it's friends and family... there could be any reason. allowing charge backs, by paypal or banking companies is bullshit. I know Chase hasn't allowed me to do it for even reasons that were real.

Yeah I honestly I don't think it was Zaoloo's intention to go out at scam everyone, I think it was 100% reaction to his ban. He's been playing the game with the same demeanor for the past 2 decades absolutely obnoxious attitude but a stellar merchant history during that time. 99.99% of people in this game will fall over themselves to correct a mistake, even the crazy ones.
I think he was his usual abusive self to a GM expecting at worst to get a temp ban like he has done for the past 20 odd years, then being hit with perma ban will have destroyed him. He's been playing this game for the majority of his life and whether he admits it or not that sort of rejection is going to hurt.
So Simu will have permanently confiscated his GS fortune to the abyss (we can only imagine what he lost) on top of what he owed everybody. In this instance specifically I think Simu should have given him a grace period to at least square things with everyone before parting ways for good.
To be clear I don't blame Simu for any of Zaoloo's behaviour after the ban, that permaban was a long time coming and Zaoloo attempting literal 10 years in prison fraud on innocent people just goes beyond the pale it's in the same vein as "angry school shooter", it's out of character and I think he knows he's better than that.

A tourist is backpacking through the highlands of Scotland, and he stops at a pub to get a drink. And the only people in there is a bartender and an old man nursing a beer. And he orders a pint, and they sit in silence for a while. And suddenly the old man turns to him and goes, "You see this bar? I built this bar with my bare hands from the finest wood in the county. Gave it more love and care than my own child. But do they call me MacGregor the bar builder? No." Points out the window. "You see that stone wall out there? It's kind of a catch-22 for calling well known people out who haven't scammed before.
I've seen Person A call out Person B only for Person A to be castigated when Person B comes along and made things right after being called out.
So if they speak up too early they risk being the bad guy in the situation if the potential scammer comes along and explains why it took him so long to make things right, and if they don't speak up they risk losing money/items and puts other put at risk of also potentially being scammed.
It's possible Zaoloo knew this fact (I'm pretty sure he himself has castigated others for calling people out) and was stringing people along for as long as possible before people decided to start posting their dealings with him.

I have always been in awe of how quickly people will shove $1,000, $5,000, or heck even $10K+ items into the hands of the players doing services. (Sometimes they pick relatively unknown sellers just because they are cheap!) I know we are all "adults" here and I feel like GS is so ingrained in us at this point that being labeled scammers or social pariahs by the community is actually a material deterrent that would take away happiness. If Zaoloo really didn't have anything left to lose or worse yet lost EVERYTHING and had no real life way of paying people back then that is much more believable. I’m pretty sure he got perma-banned and couldn’t fulfill his obligations. So it was a middle finger to Simu and a disregard to those he scammed along the way.
Simu shouldn’t have pushed that hard or at the very least, timed it away from the event. Netflix is coming out with Simu, The Making of a Douchebag next month.

This.
The person ripped people off. There's no evidence to show otherwise.
People have in the past lost their connection to GS and taken as much as they could with them by screwing people over.
It's possible he got sick or there was an emergency causing him to get money any way he could but this doesn't change the fact he stole from people and he's an asshole for it.
And blaming Simu is hilarious. The theif can chill we'll just go after the company that made the items. PayPal can take the blame too while we're at it. Oh and the Players Corner for the thread.

How is blaming Simu hilarious? Their policies likely contributed to his actions.
They chopped off his dick. I’m not surprised he retaliated and decided to bring the world down with him. Poor guy.

Zaoloo used to be trustworthy. His prices sucked, but his goods were as advertised. I did a medium sized transaction with him a few years back, but it was with the e-mail in the thread title - so I conspiracy theories aside, I am pretty sure he broke bad.
Anyone else think he still around in some form? A few new names on the lnet merchant channel and a few less vulgarities. Caveat emptor.

I’m too lazy to link the thread but I bumped it in general.
tl;dr - Wyrom pissed off the PC for pulling in Zaoloo to the consultation room for things he said on Lnet. Zaoloo bragged about that exchange for years.
Wyrom got the last laugh.

I am guessing something bad happened to Zaoloo. He could have called my brother for a 10k loan. It wasn’t the first loan he gave him. Zaoloo always paid him back. Tens of thousands of dollars over a decade or more. My brother is ban so I don’t know any of the details and Zaoloo isn’t responding to his texts or DM’s.
My brother just found out about this in the game RUST completely random

When a player dies they might have someone who has the details who can redistribute their belongings. Obviously a player dying is horrible and worse than anything else, but its worse for their collection when they just quit the lands forever. In most cases (SPEAKER X1m) they just keep their locker filled in case they ever want to return.
Which blows my mind because they could sell it all for like a billion $
I looked through Ardwens shop yesterday and though I know some of it is just lockered there at prices no one would pay, I did the maths and hes worth about the same as Elon Musk. More or less. :)

I don't really doubt this, but at the same time people have been saying for 20+ years that GS is about to die, so there's also that.
Though Simu has been dumber than ever over the past handful of years with all the nerfs and P2W BS, and apparently a bunch of GMs are extra butthurt right now over people not liking their shitty nerfing and slowing combat down ideas, with some of them quitting or taking a leave, including apparently Naijin (not sure if he quit or is just taking a break or what) so...I don't actually know where I'm going with this.

You always take a risk when you pre-order anything in GS. Especially when we all know full well that the currency you are pre-ordering is gotten via scripting. Zaoloo didn’t run with everyone’s money like you all thought. I seem to recall many comments that he took your money and ran. Yet he was caught scripting and got a ban and he’s back now too. Surely if you feel he’s wronged you it’s a misunderstanding, simply a series of misfortune. But I know Zaoloo well. He will make it right. Just talk to him.

I don’t understand how getting banned is even an excuse. The dude accepted cash in exchange for paying people an in game currency at a later date, he gets banned so he can no longer provide said in game currency (I understand this part), here is what a normal human being does: reaches out to these people, explain what happened, and GIVE ALL OF THEIR MONEY BACK IMMEDIATELY. This process shouldn’t take months and having a dozen people come forward saying you took their money.
Sure sounds like he thought he would never be unbanned or just decided he was done with the game so figured he would take everyone’s money with him, then he decided to play again and knows his name is mud in the merchanting circle so he is now finally getting around to paying people back, well 2 so far that we know of. Its kind of Hilarious that they set pricing and Auctioning values to the point where a single account and a single person would be hard pressed to manually generate enough currency to purchase things.
You give them the money to buy the Entries then you compete in the event for the reward.
The average person probably spends 3ish mins per run, 4 if you factor in failures/spells etc.
15 runs an hour. Your generating 4500 BS an hour. 20 hrs a day is 90k a day.
