I've always been told that ambush and perception are equally as important for archery and that both play a role in aiming accurately.

I've always been told that ambush is your actual ambush (unhidden and hidden) and your perception modifies that roll when hidden.

Take it for what it's worth: I train both:

Level: 18 Deeds: 7
Experience: 395709 Decays this level: 0
Exp. until next: 29291 Recent Deaths: 0
Mental TPs: 0 Fame: 335461
Physical TPs: 68 Mana: 67/67 max
(54 Phy converted to Mnt)

Your mind is as clear as a bell.

Too lazy to verify this info but from what I remember:

Aiming from Open = Perception
Aiming from Hidden = Perception + Ambush
Stalk and Hide = Keep your ass hidden when fireing

If Im wrong ... it wouldnt be new?

I have to ask an off-topic question because my Tourette's is kicking in:

Can you BOND to a crossbow/bow?

<<Can you BOND to a crossbow/bow?>>

As a melee weapon, yes.

I'm not going to pretend to know what ambush and perception actually do for archery, but you should 2x ambush, 3x perception, and 3x hiding.

Shay did, and Shay was epic.

Both perception and ambush add AS after 40 ranks. How much, I'm not sure. Actually, I'm not even positive they do add, but I've been told on several occasions that they do.

This seems to work well for me. I read the whole ambush/perception increases AS also. I bet Snowy can answer better though.

FallenSaint and Izzy have it right.

Perception is open aiming.
Ambush and perception for sniping aiming.
Hide/Stalk for staying in the shadows while sniping.

Post 40 ranks in each begins the ranged bonus AS boost.

About your training Kuyuk, you don't need brawling for DS with archery anymore. Holding bows give you ranged DS.

You're probably better off sticking with 1x in perception and 1x ambush. Your sniping should be alright with the bonus from 613.

Ambush and perception add AS after ranks 40, correct. Regarding how much AS, it's 1 AS for every 4 ranks.

So for example, you have over 40 ranks in ambush and over 40 ranks in perception.

Every training you train 2x in ambush and 2x in perception. The AS you would get from ambush is 0.5 AS and from perception is 0.5 AS so combined bonus for a 2x perception 2x ambush per train, is 1 AS.

ok, I dropped trying to be an archer as a ranger since it blows, and the points arent manageable for that and spells.

My ranger does very well as an archer...she doesn't snipe, but fires from the open and still kicks arse..

(at level 17)
Armor - 8
CMan - 18
Ranged - 36
PFitness - 18
Dodging - 18
HPower - 18
SLore Summon - 18
Survival - 18
First Aid - 18
Perception - 36
Climbing - 10
Swimming - 10
Ranger Spell - 18

I've had no problems hunting like-level critters with her...I tried the whole sniping thing with her, but it didn't work for me, so I took her to this current plan, which seems to be working very well. :)

<<I've had no problems hunting like-level critters with her>>

I've never had a problem hunting like level with any character in my life before level 20.
