WASHINGTON — A small airplane that violated restricted airspace over Washington forced the rapid evacuation of both the White House and the U.S. Capitol Building on Wednesday.

The incident also forced U.S. military jets to scramble to take to the skies over Washington.

But about 20 minutes after the evacuation, which had police yelling at lawmakers, staff members, media and tourists to run away from the buildings, the evacuations were cancelled.

President Bush was not at the White House. He was taking part in a bike ride away from the White House grounds.
