I was reading a magazine article recently about the Illinois National Guard pilot who mistakenly dropped a 500 lbs bomb on Canadian forces in Afghanistan killing four and wounding eight more.
He made the decision to attack in what he called self defense even after being told not to engage the units below.
The guy never said he was sorry to the families, even at the trial where the other pilot involved apologised profusely.
Even at this late date where he recognizes his mistake of being overly defensive at the trial still cannot bring himself to just say the words of "I made a mistake, I am sorry". He chose to say how he was sorry for their loss, as if they had lost a loved one in a freak blameless lightning strike or something.
On top of this he has the gall to still push to receive flight pay when he should instead be thanking his lucky stars he wasn't imprisoned.
The article is at this link in "Chicago" magazine.
