My neighbor put in a wireless network yesterday, and ever since then weird shit has been happening to my own wireless connection like I'm picking up interference from them, like AIM and Gemstone spontaneously kicking me off, downloads hanging, e-mail checks timing out, etc. Short of killing him, how can I fix this?

Can't say Ive ever had an issue with two wireless networks conflicting, is yours fully secured and not wide open? And they do make WiFi blocking materials you could put up to keep his out of your place.

Yep. Make sure yours is secure. Hell ... may even want to try switching router brands.
And don't use the laptop in a cafe. We probably couldn't handle another "caught a kid hacking" story.

put a password up on yours; change the channel yours goes by, cut the power to their house

Have you tried making sure you two aren't on the same channel?
Everything I was about to suggest was already suggested. Channels and securing your network is the way to go. Either that or ditch your network altogether and leech off him :P

hahaha that's the truth.
There are ways to make it so your computer always uses the same signal from a particular router. You can set it to only and always use it from your router, otherwise it'll keep looking for whichever is giving the better signal and keep kicking you off to get it.
