View Full Version : UAC Boot - Best Abilities?

Looking at what to get as far as UAC equipment at the upcoming DR. I'm pretty much set on getting a set of animalistic gloves. But that got me thinking about boots. With boots used so much less often than gloves because of how less often kick is implemented (on regular UAC, not warmages), I don't know that it makes sense to also get animalistic boots. I've always thought getting boots with any type of flare really doesn't make much sense because of the rates of how flares trigger anyway, plus the less chance for them to flare if you're not kicking as near as much as punch/jab/grapple. If you're getting regular flaring boots, then it's not a big deal because you can pick those up for cheap. I'm talking more about script flares or other abilities.
Am I wrong in viewing it that way? If not, then what is the best option to look at for boots? Crit weighting? You're already getting higher crits with kicking. I do have a set of 5x/5cer crit weighted boots that I currently use, and haven't really considered taking them higher, other than enchanting them.
Thoughts?

I'd get animalistic boots, and do fancier gloves. The majority of the benefits you want from animal gear is the passive stuff. Especially for UCS. The extra DS / UDF reduction on flare is very minimally useful for unarmed combat. The script flare is not impressive compared to other options. So really, the point of animalistic weapons is so you can have the passive:
Revenge Flares
On a successful parry (melee/runestaves) or evade (UCS/ranged), there is a chance to unleash Animalistic Fury flares. You must be in a forward or greater stance and be an active combatant in combat for the spirit to react.
NOTE: Power of this ability is tied to the Flare tier.
Since your gloves are 3/4 of your weapon attacks, you should maximize the damage dealing potential of those flares over the utility. I did ghezyte, KO flaring, dispel flaring, holy fire, ensorcelled gloves. Big 'ol project that took me around 6 months to complete, but these gloves activate on Jab/Punch/Grapple and Twin Hammerfists, which means the flare diversity is awesome. Having animalistic spirit boots and robes means I can get my passive revenge flares, and my spin kicks + normal kicks have a chance to flare some average flares, but since I'm not using those attacks nearly as often as Jab/Punch and I open almost every encounter w/ twin hammerfists, it makes sense to boost my glove flares much more than my boot flares, and KO flares are probably the best damage flare available to UCS short of death flares or something else incredibly uber that I'm overlooking.
Ghezyte isn't really all that great for UCS either, but I just enjoyed having that tacked onto the list of potential flares.

I’m glad this thread was started because I’m in the same boat. Currently have some 6x/5-7cer gloves/boots. I was thinking about adding dispel flares to both but maybe animalistic boots would be a better option. Is it worth while getting T1 dispel flares on the gloves? Not looking to spend a ton, which means no KO flares. What’s the cost to unlock the animalistic boots for the passive buff?

If you're not going to upgrade to at least T3 on dispel, I'd go with another damage flare like lightning/impact/disintegrate. T3+, dispel flares tend to take over in terms of power because they flare pre-attack and can cause a lot of damage or dramatically lower the target's defense.
Also, KO flares are a script (CAT D), so you can have them alongside Dispel or any other CAT B flare. You cannot have KO Flares w/ Animalistic on the same item.
Revenge Flares aren't too expensive to unlock, maybe 30k BS on top of the OTS item? However, the flare strength is based on your weapon flare unlock, but it works fine for standard content and you can unlock your flares over the years.
