first time ensorceller here...
so I have a weapon and its +35 with flares and its currently t4 and has a 431 difficulty
my ;resource bonus is 534
when I do a test cast at it, I am getting "this ensorcellment will be difficult, but possible" which the wiki says I have a 35% chance to succeed.
so I have a few questions...
1) do I need a potion to t5 this?
2) what can I do (besides enhancive) to increase the chance of success?
It just seems weird to me that my resource bonus is over 100 points higher than the difficulty and I am only getting a 35% chance for success (yes I am standing in a workshop).
any advice would be appreciated.

each ensorcell tier adds I think either 25 or 50 difficulty. So a 431 difficulty does not take in to account (from what I have been told) the cost of each ensorcell tier penalty. so you are really looking at a 500+ difficulty
I think the only option to bump it up on your own without enhancives is load up on suffuse

If what I have read and been told is correct, your bonus has to be 150 over difficulty to guarantee success, barring a fumble that is. So you need like 581, as I understand it it is 50 for the next tier and the d100 roll. Although 35 still seems low, the math seems like you should be around 50% success, were you in a workshop?

Does this "150 over" go for enchanting and sanctifying also? Yes, was in the sorcerer's guild workshop, used sense very to double check.
I wasn't really aware of how suffusion worked until today. I suffused a bunch of points on all my chars. Though when the time comes, I am not sure how to use the suffused points. Do they automatically help you when you do your final channel or is there some process you have to do to use the suffused points you have saved up?

SUFFUSE verb will help walk you through all that, but you activate whatever bonus you need and have that for 5 mins or next cast or whatever.

I do not know about sanctifying but I would suspect so. As for enchanting, remember it goes by +1 now so I think difficulty goes up by like 10 instead of 50 per cast. As for the 100, that roll is always there from what I understand of the system. Most of the time if I am like 75%+ then I just chance it since you only lose 10% if you miss. The exception being on my nervestaff, I missed the last cast 3 times before I got it, but I only had like a 30% chance on it with the T5 and all that. Plus my wizard was not capped and much younger then.

Sort of.
When you think about a service, your skill needs to be 100 over the difficulty that the item will have when you successfully cast.
For instance: T4 to a T5 ensorcell on a currently 400 item would require a 550 bonus because the T5 adds 50 difficulty.
Similar for a sanctify cast.... S3 to an S4 on a 400 item would require a 520 bonus because the S4 adds 20 difficulty.
For an enchanting cast, I don't have the exact math on hand but it would be something similar to like a 400 item would need a 510 because the specific cast you were working on was an additional 10 difficulty.

I think everything here is as it should be. 534 resource bonus minus 481 difficulty (includes the +50 for the next tier ensorcell) = 53% chance you are successful. The "this ensorcellment will be difficult, but possible" message is correct for that percentage range (35%-54%).
The usual advice of enhancives, making sure you are in a workshop, and Gift of Eonak (login reward that gives you a second roll if the first one fails) all apply. You could also use suffused energy, or the DR ensorcell potion to ensure success, but I would not recommend either in your case. If it were me, I'd use a Gift of Eonak if I had one to spare to give me a second chance if the first one fails. And I think I would even do it without a Gift of Eonak if I didn't. I'm personally comfortable risking 7500 necrotic energy (penalty if you fail the cast) on what is essentially a coin flip, but you have to decide how much risk you're willing to take on.
Good luck however you decide to go!

You've probably completed this project by now, but I'll chime in anyway.

Exactly. 534+100-50-431=53%
Gift of Eonak provides its maximum benefit when you have a 50% chance of success. GoE will change a 53% chance of success to a 78% chance of success. This project is perfect for GoE.
I would use GoE and try it without any suffusion points. Estimated number of failures is 0.3 and estimated neco point-equivalent savings is 92,131, compared to using enough suffusion points (47) to guarantee a 100% chance of success. That's nearly two weeks! Each failure will cost you just 6,250 necro points if you do not use any suffusion points.
