GS4 Mana Stat

I've heard the stat for mana in GS4 needs to be placed high from the very start.

True? How does this work?

Askip is a dark elf wizard in COL. Due to the slow spirit recovery, he will wrack only once per hunt.

Base mana (at level 0): (Average Mana Stat Bonus)/2, round down

Each training in the Harness Power skill gains 3 mana for each rank up to your current level, and 1 mana per rank thereafter.

Any profession should really have a good aura to begin with, so it doesn't need to be uber-high.
