Series??? That's cheating...
1. Winning Eleven International 8. (Konami)
Understand that hardly a single person in Asia or Europe buys "FIFA" soccer from EA Sports. EA makes Madden very well. Unfortunately, for their other games, they take a dump in a box and use the same box graphics. There is no better game than Winning Elven 8. Ever.
2. Tekken 4
3. Civilization 2
4. Finaly Fantasy 7
5. Shin Sangoku Musou 3 (Dynasty Warriors 4)
6. Grand Theft Auto Vice City
7. Star Control 2 (For those fortunate enough to have 3DO)
8. Gogo 13 (The Japanese arcade sniper game)
9. Galaga
10. Mike Tyson's Punchout

In no particular order . . .
1. Chrono Trigger
2. Summoner 2
3. Super Metroid
4. Super Mario 3
5. Shining Force
6. Shining Force 2
7. Halo 2
8. Timesplitters (any)
9. X-wing vs. Tie fighter
10. FF8/9 (can't decide amongst the two, the combat system in 8 sucked hardcore, but the story rocked. In 9 the story was merely average but the combat and skill learning system was very good).
Honorable mentions: Fallout series, Baldur's Gate series, Heroes of Might and Magic series, Mechwarrior, Disgaea (so freaking hard), Chrono Cross (best music in a game, ever), Breath of Fire 1, and many others that I can't think of right now.

7. Star Control 2 (For those fortunate enough to have 3DO)
Yes yes yes. Other than 2 RL friends, I think you're the only other person in the world besides myself that has been fortunate enough to experience this masterpiece in video game excellence.
It was actually a port of a PC game, but the 3DO version was much better from what I hear, but having never played the PC version I couldn't tell you why.
To everyone else: Go to eBay, buy yourself a 3DO and this awesome game. Trust me.
<3 the Spathi
Poor 3DO. It was truly a console that was ahead of its time, as the original $700 price tag indicated.

There was an old Sega game called Phantasy Star that I loved.
Phantasy Star 2 was also very good.
As kids we played a game called Release that could go on for hours or even days.
In video arcades I loved a game called Tail Gunner, or the sit down version Tail Gunner 2.
There was Gemstone 3, my years-long addiction.
We love minor league baseball games.

My favorites are pretty eclectic I guess. Based primarily on games I spent the most time/most fun playing.
Wizardry 3
Baldur's Gate
Diablo
Diablo II
Stargate
Gemstone
Neverwinter Nights (not the new game, the old Online one on AOL)
Bard's Tale
Bard's Tale II
Master of Orion
And an OLD OLD OLD Apple ][e game I used to play, called Sundog (let you modify your spaceship and your job was to deliver goods from planet to planet, each planet had it's own economy and needs... was cool)

Played some of the best games of my life (or so I thought at the time) on that old classic.
Add Leather Goddesses of Phobos as one of my all time favorites. It's an oldie but a goodie nonetheless.

Gemstone III an IV, I know most of you hate IV, but...well, what can I say, it's still better than most games out there.
Bonk's Adventures, I, II, III, IV, V, and VI (I was an addict. This game was sweet, you were a midget with a huge head who ran around headbutting enemies and climbing up walls using your teeth.
Errm...

Not the only one. I can't believe I forgot to include SC2 on my list.
The 3DO had more than the PC version - video clips, remixed music, and a lot of well-done speech added.
And it is worth tracking down an old 3DO for. Pick up a copy of Road Rash, too, while you're at it.
